Dressage!

NBC Sports Network is showing some tests now.

Thanks for mentioning it’s on.

I just happened to scan the channels showing the Olympics, and happened on the dressage tests for qualification. Charlotte on Pumpkin was amazing!

I’m watching Steffen Peters on his horse, Suppenkasper ( aka Moxie, or one of his other various names), and I was confused at first. Steffen looks tiny, but then the commentators mentioned the horse is 6’ 2" at the withers! I’m not a dressage person, but I think the horse looked very tired, and struggling at the end.

Isabel Werth on Bella Rose. Bella Rose needed a 3 1/2 year break to recover from laminitis. I love the horse shipping story, that showed Isabel traveling with the horses.

Adrian and Salvino…I wonder what is going on with Salvino. His test almost seemed like he was moving in slow motion. Both John Kyle and Lucinda Green commented on the strange tempo. They both noted that Salvino appeared not really to going forward and seemed disinterested. She got a poor score…but that is what the test deserved.

Thank you!

I agree.

I watched it on live stream without coffee, and thought the same - labored. Just a while ago saw it on NBC replay, and it seemed like she was often giving the reins encourage him more forward. I’ve watched a couple of his prior tests and this was not the same forward, flowing horse. Her face said everything at the end of the ride. Hopefully he will perk up over next few days.
i also thought Steffen’s horse looked tired near end, but he managed to put in a test that was much closer to his past, very consistent scores.

Still making my way through Day II… interesting to see a number of Totilas’ offspring on the international stage! I still remember seeing him back at WEG which doesn’t feel all that long ago.

Gutted for the rider from Singapore—that stuff happens but ugh you never want it to happen on such a big stage…

Random aside: I do love to see everyone in helmets. People do notice. My SO—not horsey in the least—was super frustrated the skateboarders weren’t wearing helmets when the equestrians were. As he rightly said, “it just takes one accident.” And as we all know, it’s usually doing the thing we’ve done dozens of times before…

THIS WORKED!! Thank you so much, four fillies!

I can get NBC with rabbit ears and on Dish as a local channel and 159, just have to catch any horses if and when they put them on.
Have not yet.

bluey, set up a dish account online and you can stream it all live If you watch NBC you will get Randy Moss and Melanie smith-Taylor and neither one knows anything about dressage.

Running scores: Anyone know how to see the running scores?
I just listened to the Horse and Hound podcast for today and Pippa Room was talking about seeing the running scores. During the streaming broadcast, John Kyle notes the running scores. I cannot seem to figure out how to see them.

British commentators vs US commentators-I loved watching the live stream. The commentators just said enough without being cloying. I just wanted the US/NBC ones to just be quiet. Jabber-Jabber-Jabber. The livestream ones, complimented the horses, explained different things to be sought, cheered when something was good, and winced when things went wrong (Australia’s entry). But I am glad to have the equestrian events even to be shown.

Just finished watching with my coach. Her overall comment was that the quality of horses and riders is so improved from 20 years ago. To have three tiers of riders: the 65+, the 75+, and the 80+ is really phenomenal.

Many of the horses looked very sweaty and a bit tired. Living in Florida, seeing sweaty, tired horses is fairly common. But it seems like it is even more humid over there.

I was so pleased to see so many Lusitanos scoring so well - the whole Portuguese team rode Lusos. That breed has improved in the past 15 years.

I’m very interested to see if Jessica can maintain her lead over Isabell. A lot can happen in the freestyles. And I loved the Brazilian rider’s shad - just a little bit of edge and style but totally classy.

since when has this been so? Will they block us if we dare go for 6?

I went for 6 and a screen came up that said no more than 5 unanswered posts are allowed.

Just making my way through Day 1. While Total US looked great, I wonder if he’ll end up like his dad. He’s 9 and in the Olympics. I foresee much wear and tear by the time he is 12.

So what, you’re banned for a day? That seems weird.

Is it 5 times in a thread, or at all?

Only watched Day 1, since I couldn’t find Day 2 streaming. I thought Charlotte Fry and Everdale were simply breathtaking. It was just beautifully ridden, crisp, powerful and all-around impressive of a ride. This was the first time I saw her ride and I was blown away. Unlike many others some of who even scored higher their ride didn’t even look like a test, but a freestyle carefully put together for the particular combination.
Also Hans Pieter Minderhoud was a pleasure to watch as always. I find it super fascinating that him and Gal are partners, because their riding strikes me as very different. Total US is an impressive horse, but my 2c is that he probably needs to put on some mass to support the exaggerated movements that Gal seems to be a master in getting out of his horses. Hopefully, he stays sound and is a real contender for the next Games.
