dublin and bumpkin's Excellent Adventure! Pictures and all!!

This was our second get together, but this time we had a whole day to spend together, rather than just a few minutes.

It was raining when we got to bumpkin’s house, but it didn’t dampen our spirits. We met Mr. bumpkin, and also her JRT Fernie and her 5 absolutely darling month old puppies. It was so much fun watching them play! Then she showed me some of her great collection of horse books and magazines.

After that, she started giving us a driving tour of the Woodinville area. Lovely houses and landscaping; lots of private stables and a wonderful system of bridle trails. I absolutely loved it!! We then stopped at The Gift Horse, a tack shop co-owned by a friend of hers. It was full of lots of great things, but I restrained myself, and only bought one book. I thought Mr. dublin would hate being dragged through a tack shop, but he actually enjoyed seeing it as well.

After that, we went to a nearby golf club, and had lunch in their clubhouse, which had a beautiful view of the course. Following lunch, we went out to see Poncho, bumpkin’s daughter’s horse. He is a just the sweetest old guy, and we also met his best friend, a gray pony named Marbles. We then walked across the street and saw a darling big, leggy two month old colt, as well as several mini horses who were so hairy, they resembled yaks!!

Then we went to see Elliott, the apple of bumpkin’s eye. She turned him loose in the indoor ring, where he put on a bit of a bucking display, in competition with a horse in an outside paddock. After that, he decided he wasn’t crazy about the flash on my camera, so we took him outside to get some more pictures. Following that, he got a good grooming and got fed lots of carrots by mr. dublin and me.

After we left the stable, bumpkin gave us more of a tour of the area, and we went by several stables, including one run by the daughter of my first trainer. We then went back to her house, where we met more of her JRTs down in their kennel, and got a tour of her barn/guest quarters.
We had such a great day, and I can’t wait to see her again sometime in the hopefully not too distant future!!!

And now for the pictures…

Lucy and me at the Portland Rose Garden…

Poncho, Elliott, Lucy and Marbles are all quite the 4 legged Menagarie, very adorable, & handsome animals!

Mt. Hood is beautiful, and Multnomah Falls simply breathtaking! Hope your cap loved it too!

Thanks for the lovely photo’s! They are worth the wait!

Snif snif, now I’m really bummed I couldn’t fly up for the day. Dublin, thanks for posting those, they’re wonderful! And what a well traveled COTH cap…

What a great travelogue! Thanks so much for posting them!

(And, psst, Merry: I know how we can get that pinto, padlocked in though he may be … he can jump out the window, remember!!!)

Horse show, schmorse show! How about a communal camp out and trail ride???

Mr. dublin and Lucy having fun at Cannon Beach, with the aptly named Haystack Rock in the background…

I can see now why my trainer suggested putting Elliot on a diet!!
He looks so little and FAT!!
The mane has already been taken care of… haha
May I note, the window lovely Marbles is looking through is the very window Poncho jumped out of December 29, 2000 and almost ripped his back leg off on, also note the fence is but a mere few feet from the window and Poncho made it!!!

Wonderful photos! Fun too get a visual of the names so often heard! No offense to Poncho, I love paints too, but I’d take Elliot, he’s related to one of my all time favorite horses, the illustrious Starman…Bumpkin you can send him to visit me and Murphy in Texas to “warm up” anytime…

My brother and his lovely wife live in Lake Oswego, and got married in Portland at the White House B&B (highly recommeded place to stay, by the way. Both the house and, more importantly, the food are fantastic!) I’ll be up in Vancouver BC and to Portland later this summer…hmmmmmm

Great pics Dublin! It looks like you guys had a lot of fun! By the way, I am still bummed that you and I ate at the same restaurant in Fort Bragg (many many miles from my home!) within probably minutes of each other, and yet we didn’t know it at the time!!!

Lets all meet at the Grand National at the Cow Palace!!!
It would be a fun weekend with horses and kind of central, Jair and I can fly down from Seattle.
Except we have to see what weekend because otherwise Coreene is having her birthday party in Vegas I think she said November 4th…we could meet there, but she didn’t mention invites…haha

Mt. Hood and the apple orchrds of Hood River. Horse connection?? The Hood River Classic starts tomorrow!

Like I said, can I have Poncho??? I think he’d make a lovely companion for the pygmy goat. And we have very few windows for him to jump through!

bumpkin has a great folder of pictures and articles about Elliot’s famous father, the also wonderful Starman, which I luckily got to see when I visited her… Very cool!!

Bumpkin and Dublin: Love those pictures and the golden bits. Gotta have one eventually. That’s so neat that you can get together

Perhaps a clique redux get together at a geographically desirable horse show Complete with Rusty’s Margarita’s

But a big birthday bash for Coreene sounds like a blast as well!!

I just checked the Cow Palace site and the Grand Prix is on November 4th.

Also, the ‘Buckin’ Ball’ is the night before…we could go cruise for cowboys in Levis - and would definitely have to extend an invite to Colin for that one… Yee haw!!!

The Gift Horse had lots of gold bits for Merry!!

dublin, bumpkin and Ellen, bumpkin’s friend and co-owner of the shop

My COTH cap goes sightseeing at 611 foot Multnomah Falls, on the Oregon side of the beautiful Columbia River Gorge…

(Thanks for the inspiration, Jair!!!)

Merry you would have to pry Poncho away from his personal attendent, Mallory who loves him so much.
He is not a pleasing ride to be honest, they told us he use to be a Rodeo horse and I tend to think it was a bronco by the way he can really stretch out and kick that huge hind end up in the air.
He is also a true Native American Warmblood as he supposedly originated on a Reservation!
