Dutch harness horse drama. Update major mare/ foal neglect Nov 2023 post 1782 Update Kate Shearer responds post 1930 Nov 25/23

I can’t imagine the thought process used to consider breeding this mare to a jumper stallion in hopes of a sporthorse offspring for either jumping or dressage, and certainly not for a hunter.

Why?

Ivanka looks sabino to me. Some of her foals look rabicano but that is not totally understood, and sabino can mimic rabicano.

The yearling Ulandro is advertised for $35k. In WHAT dream world?! My only thought is that she talks them up to braiding clients who are absolutely clueless about breeding and have more money than knowledge. It happens.

So what this means is that she isn’t filing her annual business report with the state. I have an LLC and have to file a report/pay $30ish dollars for a business license annually to my state. The dates are such that she’s not wildly out of compliance. You are doing her a favor, she probably doesn’t know she needs to do this.

Exactly.

My best guess is that she is aware of the roots of KWPN Sporthorse breeding, and is trying to recreate it or something? Maybe that’s just the pedigree geek in me over analyzing whatever it is that she is trying to do. But the roots of the modern KWPN sporthorse do involve a few foundation stallions who were the result of Gelders mares being crossed with TB, Holsteiner, Hanoverian and Selle Francais lines. Generally speaking. Nimmerdor was a legendary and hugely influential stallion, and a result of this. And, the registry had high standards and a good system, and strongly encouraged breeding for type, and many of the sport horse results have been excellent, and it’s gone forward from there.

But… Amish bred DHH mares are not the same as Gelders mares in the Netherlands from the 1950s and 1960s. Breeding an Amish DHH in 2023 with a great jumping stallion like For Pleasure? It will not result in Nimmerdor part deux.

Same goes for Galoubet’s dam - Viti - who was a French Trotter. She was ridden under saddle and was a good jumper. Her particular mare family had produced other top tier jumpers in the past. HOWEVER, grabbing any old Standardbred mare here in America in 2023, and crossing it with a great Selle Francais jumping stallion? It will not recreate Galoubet. He was a unique freak.

Last thing. There is video of Ivanka trotting around in the field on Kate’s Facebook as part of a sales post she did this fall … and you can see the way the mare moves. There is also video of the mare and her 2022 filly by Imothep on YouTube… the filly got very strong rabicano/sabino type coloring that must have come from the dam, Ivanka.

You can see Ivanka walking and trotting with her filly in the field at the 1:50 mark of this video. She’s in good flesh here (from back in 2022)… but her movement? VERY harness type. Nothing about the mare says hunter, jumper or dressage to me. I do see what seems to be a hint of feathers around her fetlocks as well.

She might be a great mare… there are plenty of wonderful grade horses out there. But crossing THIS mare to Galoubet in order to get embryos? That’s beyond strange to me. And might result in a REALLY challenging horse to start and ride…

Exactly.

It’s possible that this horse is registered as a Half-Arabian. Years ago, a lot of Arabian people were buying/breeding Saddlebred/Arabian crosses to get “Park” and “English Pleasure” horses in which high trotting action was desirable. They might be moving on to the Bred-for-Fancy-Driving-Classes breeds (European and American) to get those crosses now for the Half-Arabian classes.

Now, it seems that Arabian/warmblood-of-choice horses are being bred/bought for the Arabian Sporthorse classes and shows.

Using unproven mares from harness horse lines to breed jumpers is definitely a questionable idea. The conformation of the offspring should have been a heads up.

Absolutely, and witness the baby’s lack of jumping instinct. Definitely not taking after dad.

(Of course the pushback could be “foals/weanlings don’t know what to do with little jumps, yet” - but my filly by a Hanoverian jumper sire jumped out of her pasture at 4 1/2 months old over a 4 foot gate. I think she probably would also have been willing and able to pop competently and easily over a cross rail when chased!)

Yep.

Baby has a solid trot though. And a tendency to cruise around at the trot. Dondersteen as the broodmare sire definitely came through.

 Decent trotter for sure.

I wonder if she will ever end up with a foal from one is the Galoubet embryos?

I wonder what the canter will be like.

Just because things can be done with ICSI and embryo transplants doesn’t mean they SHOULD be done.

Just for grins, I tried to look into Hakuna Matata KG’s pedigree, and ended up on Kate/Kathryn Shearer’s ads on Warmblood Sales (where unfortunately complete pedigrees are not listed). The way these horses are presented is a bit mind-boggling, especially considering their price tags.

I know the lighting is a factor in the photo above, but the combination of the ribs and the expression on this foal’s face just don’t sit right with me.

Ah ok I see. Thanks

Anyone can get an Llc in FL. It’s done online. It doesn’t have to be approved or anything

Oh. My. That is sickening.

OH MY LORD. That’s more than just a baby getting a little lanky/ribby during a growth spurt.

That harness horse blood is VERY prepotent. Would be fun to drive.

Are you seriously coming in here arrogant AF when there’s photos of horses you’ve neglected circling around? Not just one, either, BTW. Multiple, over multiple different time periods. I have said this before and I will say it again - how do you not see the problem is you?
