One or two =/= “lots.”

Interesting. I’m still not sure how bad COTH’s reputation is, if it’s just consistently one or two people (assuming it’s always a different one or two people that are unrelated). It’s not my favorite forum, and as I said, some posters do come off as just miserable beings, but since I’ve not met them IRL, I can only account for their online presence here. I’ve also not really talked about COTH much IRL either.

I feel out of the demographic because I’m not soo “old” LOL just into my 30’s and I do ride, I also don’t own a bathrobe (reference from MB threads), and I think there are others like me.

There’s also instances where I really “don’t like” a poster in one thread, and find them brilliant in another thread, so there’s that too.

Isn’t that just as bad as texting the trainer? Is that level of pursuing it necessary?

That sounds insane to me. Like Tulsa World is going to even remember some random old interview they did about a horse braider in detail, when they probably interview several people a day!

I personally thought that was a little too invested.

Lol no. Very occasionally there are train wreck threads, largely created by someone reacting exactly the way you have to this one. But the vast, vast majority of COTH posts are questions, answers and advice about everyday riding, showing, learning, and horse management issues.

Thanks.

Am I missing the link for the video of the specific horse that was mentioned? A quick online search for that name brings up a singer with a nose ring. Lol. :woman_shrugging:

Sorry, it’s the first horse, barn name apparently Noel.

Ah, ok. Thanks!!

Yes and I personally am not one to bash CoTH elsewhere but I do realize many others do.

I think it’s people who have come for a train wreck and seen the bad and not stayed for the good.

I haven’t paid attention to who replies to my posts when I post CoTH links with negativity but I doubt it’s the same people. It’s usually in FB horse groups or on articles like from CoTH or EN.

I would never go real life no matter how awful I think someone on the board is, but I can’t say the same for others. It’s too bad when people can’t separate their forum from the real world imo.

So one shouldn’t react when random people online think it’s fun to try to shred their life, which hasn’t happened, albeit you all gave it a good try lol. I only knew about this because my warm blood registers has certain key words tagged and they let me know. Don’t you think it’s pretty embarrassing and sad when a warmblood registry says something and not a single person I know in real life except one person. So it’s a bunch of people I’ve never met lol. Gotta love social media.

Nonsense. I’ve been a member of this forum for almost…oh geez…I think it was '06 when I originally joined. I’ve met at least 20 COTHers in person who I knew specifically FROM here, and then I’m sure there are other participants that I just haven’t met. Especially rated horseshowing. I don’t know of many backyard people that are here.

COTH is different in that it doesn’t take to fools lightly. Some of the other equine forums allow people to spout nonsense all over the place, and they don’t get called on it. This is one of the reasons I like participating here. Others may find that “bullying”, but I don’t. It’s direct and it’s a way of getting good information and helping horse owners truly learn. I can think of a number of people through the years that got over their big bad selves and learned well (DressageJunkie was one that I recall having a really hard time at first, and then she became a great participant in the community).

In terms of education, man - I know that someone has an idea for almost anything I can ask here. Especially the horse care section, with all the weird illnesses and injuries that horses can have. And I’m not a sporthorse breeder, but I’ve learned a ton from that section as well. There is a vast vast amount of expertise on these boards. I’ve been a competitive rider for over 30 years, managed a facility for a number of years and now own a barn, and STILL there are things that I learn every day here and store away in my little chipmunk brain for when the situation arises.

And to answer your last question that you replied to BigMama with, if there is no veracity to the claims being made, no reaction is the best reaction. An emotional reaction will never…ever…in any public forum…be taken well. Not just on COTH. This is PR and life.

Not a hunter. Just not.

The other thing I found amusing in that video was, for that price I would expect there to be no muddy trotting around loose in the paddock videos.

Great post, alterration.

Agree on all points.

I have met a half dozen people on COTH in real life, and probably interact with more IRL that I’m not aware of their user names here.

The filly advertised, Noel/Natoria, doesn’t scream “hunter” to me, either. But ya’ know, to each their own and I’d hope potential buyers would be educated enough to select a proper hunter type youngster. It was actually this section of text that caught my eye:

“I guarantee you at 4 she will be packing a kid around no problem!”

As far as I know, the Crystal Ball of Equine Endeavors and Future Accomplishments has yet to be discovered. Any time a seller claims to “guarantee” what a baby horse will be doing years down the line, it comes across like magical thinking and puffy hyperbole.

At least that’s my opinion. But what do I know, being one of a mere handful of remaining old, has-been COTH posters…

If it makes you feel better to think so. Dont judge COTH by your experience here though. Most people on COTH are pretty honest in their interactions and get alot of positive feedback, and good inforation from very informed and experienced horsemen. Actually, you can find that same experience right here on this thread, if you were they type to care about that.

If you are they type to act out against the experienc you encounter though, you might not think so.

I’m alarmed that such a young horse crossfires the entire time she’s in the right lead canter (10 seconds, right at the end). She avoids picking that lead through the whole video, even in the pasture.

I happen to use CoTH for informational purposes - lots of good traiining and health care advice posted on here (yes, you need to filter - but the horse people here know a lot). You may be wise to listen to some of the advice posted here to you (I would say to you - put down the shovel)

Although this is certainly a part of the MB threads, I believe it originated on a NP thread.
