DVD, Nuno Oliveira: In His Own Words

I have just received my copy of Nuno Oliveira: In His Own Words. And I must say that it is absolutely fantastic.

I have watched it several times and see something new each time. I think that this will one of the most valuable tools for riders, trainers and instructors to ever be produced.

I have seen many clips of Nuno, but this is totally different. It is not just clips put together but it is a training video and the insight/teaching given by Nuno while he is riding/training the stallion is just so precise and informative.

Well done San Miranda, you have made a trully valuable contribution to the dressage community.:yes::yes:

SLC do your self a favour GET ONE.

I never pay for something I don’t want in the first place.

it’s not really your job to prosteletize ANYONE, or to dog them in thread after thread to try to get them to like the same rider you like. I dont’ do that to you - don’t do it to me. Agreeing with you about Nuno Olivera is not one of my responsibilities - GETTING me to agree with you about Nuno Olivera isn’t really one of yours.

Wow. I saw that before it was edited slc. Having boundaries might include not going starkers off the deep end because someone suggests you get a dvd.

editing to add- "boundaries " comment has now been deleted from slc’s comment.

i deleted the ‘boundaries’ comment because the post was getting too long, and did so before you posted, that had nothing to do with you. i still think it’s a valid statement. trying to push me to like nuno olivera isn’t anyone’s job. there is a circle of people who adore him and refer to his students as ‘disciples’, there is a circle of dressage ppl who DON’T like him. go pick on ideayoda for not liking him, how bout.

and ah…well, egon, i think you go off the deep end on every single post of yours.

so eggie, can you do a video of someone going over the deep end and post it on youtube? Maybe a re-enactment would be nice…

This reminds me of being in a tack shop yesterday, and some kid riders were working out rap for a musical freestyle :

Yo yo yo, check it out
I am supple and my horse is fit
So don’t tell me our canter pirouttes look like… (enter voice over) neigh

Nuno.  Just sad that anyone still believes that rubbish. He is a circus rider, it is not dressage.

Okay, rap may not be working.

Haiku, anyone?

there are people who call Nuno’s students ‘disciples’, and there are people who don’t care for his style at all. I think I could safely add Darlyn to that group, LOL.

slc SM offered to send them to you totaly free! I am puzzled why you would not take up the opportunity. What are you afraid of… These DVDs are unique in that you see him training a stallion for 4 days over two hours, no editing. And the change in the stallion at the end of the 4 days will silence all critics of Nuno:yes:

4 days isn’t training dressage, 4 days is training reactions.

Show me a DVD of Nuno training the stallion taken over the course of 4 years that shows a clear progression in the training scale, and demonstrates the complete training from basic level to grand prix, and I will be impressed.

“offered to send them to you free…what are you afraid of”

talk about dramatic…ok, I’ll tell you what I’m afraid of.

Nothing. I forgot who said they would send them for free. And I figured if I asked, I’d set off another storm of tendentious tirades. I’m afraid listening to all you self righteous HTT Nuno disciples might make me laugh so hard I pee my pants.

And of course, you people saying ‘do yourself a favor’ and ‘what are you afraid of’ aren’t exactly putting me in any mood to want the DVD, either. I was almost ready to do it, til you guys said those things.

The spectre of sitting for what seems like eons watching a rider I don’t like plop around with his head in his lap doing the same leg yield thing 1000 times in a row, when I could be washing socks or planting grass, I’m afraid of that. "

The other thing I’m afraid of is the quality of the video, which looked horrid. I’ve already seen most of the clips, and the quality is just really bad.

By the way…you didn’t answer my question.

Why aren’t you telling ideayoda to ‘do her self a favor’, or asking her ‘what are you afraid of’, or EqTrainer?

That is what Nuno, and his sidekick Dominique do - they teach tricks, signal training, not influencing the horses thru aids. It is dog training, circus training, not dressage. Yes, he is good at training circus tricks, but also a horrible teacher. In clinics that people paid a lot of money to ride with him, he sat at the end of the arena at PHC, flirting with the ladies, laughing and partying. Never paying a bit of attention to the actual rider. What a joke. His protégé does the same thing. Middle aged bored housewives get their “fannies pinched” by someone with an accent and b*lls, and that thrills them, but they don’t learn to ride. The horses become experts at evasion. The learned evasion at the signal, looks fancy, and impresses some people.

I could care less about N.O. one way or the other, but I’m soooo tired of the repetitive bs on this forum about the generic “middle-aged housewives” and whichever male trainer is currently being dissed.

It’s just misogynistic, age-ist spew. And as offensive as fanny-pinching in its own lack of common courtesy and respect.

That’s correct. I hate that spewage of mysogyny.

Besides, often it’s young male landscapers getting pinched.

The quality of the footage is very good, good sound and good visual, not at all like the quality on youtube.

The riding is inspiring and educational.

The teaching is very informative.

San Miranda offered to send you the DVDs free of charge so that you can judge them for your self SLC, not to change your mind. SM is all for sharing knowledge and I for one am extremely greatfull that she has done so.

Its a very sad world where one person has gone to so much trouble and expense to share something so rare with the rest of the world and a few on the board just use vulgar language to express themselves without viewing this inspiring footage.

You would think, from these posts, that SM has commited a serious crime instead of contribuiting and sharing something postive with the dressage community.

All I wanted to do was to let everyone know that these DVDs are first quality if I have offended anyone I appologise:sadsmile:

Where can I buy this DVD? It sounds very interesting. I personally don’t just buy books or whatever by people I love. I buy stuff by people who rub me up the wrong way too. I happily pay good money to be outraged, and sometimes I am surprised (or disappointed) to find that the object of my disgust has actually got something useful to say. Gotta love this board.

I have started to watch the DVDs.
I see a method being used, expertly. The method is not the same as the “mainstream” - the official educating book for judges in Sweden states that shoulder-in in walk is of no use. Nuno Oliveira uses the SI in walk and gets results.
He uses his body without disturbing the horse.

If you want to hold a distorting mirror for a laugh - it´s possible.

I am not a fan of a lot of methods in modern dressage, but I try to watch and learn. All the small nuances that make a difference. Easy to distort there too.

                                                      Margareta, in Sweden

I ask again, why aren’t you ‘trying to educate’ EqTrainer and Ideayoda?

Why is that? Why are you ‘trying to help’ me and not them?

Why do I have to like Olivera?

I actually find his methods EXTREMELY UPSETTING BORDERING ON ABUSIVE. This is not ‘vulgar’ this is disagreeing with you. Why do I have to agree with you? Why do I have to be subjected to watching him? The horses are drilled and drilled and drilled repeating things over and over and over and over and over. I can’t stand it. It makes my nauseated watching it.

I ask again, why aren’t you ‘trying to educate’ EqTrainer and Ideayoda?

I’m neither a disciple nor a ‘hater’ of N.O and won’t be buying the dvd but even I but can guess the reply to your question. Perhaps it’s because ET and IY remain more professional in expressing their views. I don’t think they post vicious attacks then delete them afterwards, either.

Those types of things tend to provoke people more than polite disagreement.

Thanks RUNVS, I have had very positive feed back regarding the DVDs, it is so humbling!

I have offered the DVD set free of charge to SLC2 and am still waiting for her to take up the offer.

Are you envious was a name of a race horse that ran under RUNVS, is that where you got your name from?

Anyway thanks for the support with the DVDs, It has certainly brought some very interesting and informative people into my life. I certainly feel blessed:)
