DVD, Nuno Oliveira: In His Own Words

I am a disciple of N.O., or better, I would like to have been.
Unfortunatly I am 15 years too late.
But in Belgium (that´s near to Germany), there are some people who have worked with him (because N.O. was there for several clinics in the 80th, and his daughter-in-law had lived there), and where I can learn a little bit about riding in this way.

I´m allways very impressed to see the masters riding. It´s allways a very great pleasure, and I never ever seen horses worked in such a light, round and energetic way.

I want to buy these DVDs.
Please contact me per PM.

Thanks

Horsman - since you are new here I’ll explain that every time slc and eggontoat get together on this board there is an argument, use of long words that most of us can’t spell, and opinions. They are just that, opinions, not facts. So don’t take it to heart and make up your own mind. Just had to add that.

??
Hello Foxtrott (and HELLO to everybody in this nice world),
I don´t understand what you want to tell me, properly because english is not my nature-language.

Concret: Are those DVDs available or not???

In case of N.O.s riding there is no dought in me.
I look and study his way for a longer time.
But shure it is a personal point of view.
Everyone must make his own dessigion(?) - right?

regards
horsmän

Where are all these first time posters coming from?
I like to think I have an open mind and I am interested in all types teaching but after seeing videos of Nuno I am afraid I crossed his way off my list. What is all the hype about?

Oliveira was a Master of the art. His profound philosophy in the practice of lightness in equitation was his legacy to us all, where riding in lightness is the absolute epitome of classical, or artistic equitation. Unfortunately we see very little of it today.

If Nuno was the “epitome of classical” then I personally am glad we see very little of it.

Nuno sho kud rite prudy, like lots of the klsikal folk/hurburmen/riter/the guyw/the chiken/the gentlemein now with karotstik-mustache man/the guy wat has bmi chart posted/et al

flowery.

poetic.

oh! how kud I forgat hat guy with gloved pinkie up? also gud riter to. vary klassikal! also weeble-body guy! and push-swing guy! too also bug eye old dude on platform! so many!

your post reflects that you know little about the core elements of classical dressage- to which Nuno Oliveira has greatly contributed. I hope you have at least read Steinbrecht- if not- I would highly recommend you start there-he’s German and the counterpart of Baucher- who is French, not sure if you read about him??
Nonetheless. I’d love to get those vids- please PM me and explain how to get them in the US.
Just cliniced with Bettina Drummond, Nuno’s longtime student (17 years) and I have to say- in all my years of clinics, riding, training- this was an enormous experience to me, my horse, our progress and the quality of my work with him.

Sabine.I have to tell you that I am not a great reader of dressage.I do however have lessons weekly, compete and ride up to five times a week so I hope I still qualify to have an opinion.I have however watched alot of videos over the years which i find I can relate to.I have seen a few clips of Nuno and I have been dissapointed with his riding. This does not mean that I do not know anything about classical riding or admire other classical trainers and riders.I do.I am glad you have just had a good series of lessons. So have I .

INdy- everyone has the right to an opinion. No doubt about that.
Nuno lived in a time where the video camera was not a standard staple and he lived in Portugal where his style and ways were highly respected. Utmost technology and the video experience was not in his world.
If you don’t read- you miss half of what you can learn. But of course that is just my opinion.
Lessons are just words- it depends what mind they come from and are received by. Dressage is more than instruction…you must read to begin to understand the size of it- unless you have innate enormous instincts…of which there are about 10 of those folks around in the world, they were long discovered and made into pros.
Good luck with your riding…

I have just read Klaus Balkenhol ,The Man and His Training Methods by Britta Schoffmann. This is a fantastic read with beautiful pictures.
I know people who are well read and talk the talk that I know can’t ride yet like to baffle you with knowledge.

Baucher. Isn’t he the guy that that nasty bit is named after? The one that the horses quickly learn to duck from the contact, rather than reach into it? The one with the leverage.

I remember Dominique was quite fond of that bit to induce the fake head position. In fact, I remember him berating a student for 2 of her lessons one weekend, about how DARE she change bits to a loose ring snaffle. Finally in the 3rd lesson, she was allowed to walk. She paid good money for that abuse too.

this thread is a bonafide goldmine.
thank you all kindly for this morning’s giggles.

Maybe some folks are refusing the “free” NO DVD for the same reason I refuse a “free” personality test from Scientologists…

Sorry - there’s nothing in this video clip that I would want to emulate! What’s the point of the chin on the chest, seat behind the vertical, slouching? Also, the horse sounds like he’s nervously gnashing the bit.

Yeah, I don’t see what the fuss is all about, either. I don’t get the point of the repetitive (and lousy) reinbacks. The horse was being dragged backwards, not stepping clearly and smoothly back.

I’m going out now for some popcorn and beer.
