The pics of the darker trail saddle is has the 95deg bar 6.5" “medium” tree.
Yeah that’s what I’m thinking. At this point I’m feeling a little desperate. Ugh.
At least I can sit in it and see if the 16 feels better than a 15. I’ll bring my little cardboard cutout of her shoulders and decide if it’s worth the hassle of bringing it home.
I’m not sure the technical name. I’ve never seen it on the trail saddles - just the Flex2 barrel saddles.
I am pretty sure there is some foam under it, rather than the fluffy fleece. I looked on the Circle Y site and I think they call Grip-Rite skirt liner.
Well, I think it fits adequately. Pics have been sent to the fitter for her evaluation. I tried to add pics here, but I guess I failed at that…. Just tried again on Friday mid-day.

Well, last night in the dark I only rode for a few minutes, although we did do a quick jog and lope. LOL. And today I had my tax appointment after work. So tomorrow I will truly test it. I will say that I felt much more like I was sitting down and around my mare instead of on top of her.
On the first photo, is there a tight spot at the shoulder? When you run your hand down the tree, is there a spot that feels like there is more tightness than the others? Or not? The picture makes it look like there is, but that’s different than being there to see what it feels like.
Thank you for looking!
My trainer and I do not feel any tight spots. I am still waiting on the saddler’s opinion via photos. I’ve ridden in the saddle now for a lesson and a short trail ride and all looks good. In fact, my trainer commented that my mare seemed much more willing to lower her head and neck in this saddle compared to my old saddle, and I found her to be lighter in the bridle. So now I am feeling a bit guilty for waiting so long to try a different saddle.
Hey! Sorry to hear that! You can always send us tracings for us to try to match you with one of our trees if you decide to try another Circle Y with your horses, it’s a free service we offer and we’re able to match to any tree within Circle Y, High Horse, and Tucker to find you the perfect fit.
Hey there! We’re sorry to hear that you didn’t get a response. You can DM us on here or contact us via our website and we’ll be happy to help.
There are several changes between a regular (SQHB), wide (FQHB), and extra wide (draft) tree. We also have gaited fits, Flex2 saddles, and wood trees among many other options.
If the regular fits well then a wide will definitely not fit, but it sounds like your saddle may have been ‘perched’ a little indicating that it could have been too narrow (we’re happy to take a look at photos to be able to provide a better analysis).
You can also send tracings in to Yoakum and we can evaluate them at no cost to match your horse with any of our trees.
Well, I did have a request in with McCall to send me some trees, but after almost a month with no word from them after they took my CC info and address, I just cancelled my request. They answered back with a “well we didn’t have 3 trees at the time.” Ok, that would have been a good thing to communicate. I’m not dealing with that garbage when I’m looking to buy a product. Doesn’t bode well for anything else with them, so I’m going to give them a “don’t recommend”.
@CircleY-Tucker-Reinsman-HighHo I have a Circle Y Drover on order. Hopefully it comes sooner than the estimated August!
We have lots of saddles with padding that’s been tested through many miles and riders, but we completely understand riders who love a hardseat design! Most of our saddles can be custom ordered through our website or any of our dealers to better fit what you want from your saddle, including changing the seat padding to better suit you.
Let us know if we can help in any way!
I wish I had done that since I really wanted a Circle Y. I still have the tracings but not the money for another saddle!!
Faster! Faster!
Have you tried Allegany Mountain trail saddles in NY? They send out the fibreglass forms and build saddle from there. They also have a number in stock once you get your fit type. I went thru this process with JJ Maxwell in California and used the forms to get a fit for a horse. I also went thru the traditional manner with a custom saddle maker and had a saddle built for a hard to fit mare. He gave me 4 bare trees to try and it is an eye opener to see how much pain can be caused if the tree does not fit properly. Had to wait 6 months for him to build it but it was worth the wait. Fully hand tooled (Sheridan).
Did you ever get the saddle?? I keep checking but no updates…
I did! But the SNAFU is that all of the rest of the stuff, billets girths pads, is buried in my storage unit due to my life circumstances. I’ll ride in it asap, I promise!
Did you at least check to see if it fits?? I couldn’t wait if it was me.
