Educate me on saddles

I don’t feel like I can without a girth! But I can throw it up there tonight!

Thank you. I will try and be patient :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Sure you can. You can set it on their back and see how it looks.

Yes, also nice to cinch it up but sometimes you can tell it’s such a bad fit you don’t even need to cinch it up… but hopefully it will look good!

Fun little fact, if your saddle indeed fits well, you should be able to mount normally from the ground with no cinch at all. Scares some people but it’s the truth!!

Here it is!

I saw that when looking at saddle fit videos. Keep in mind the young guy mounting was real skinny, very athletic and a lot younger than I am now–so yes I personally would be scared to do it ( as I am now) :frowning:

Such a nice saddle @endlessclimb. Can’t wait to hear how it rides and how the horse does ( when you find your cinch).

Might be doable. It looks tight in front BUT in my experience, my saddles have done that too. Obviously, with the Flex2 design, it will move in that location and it does NOT end up being a tight spot when you ride in it and get the leather broken in.

It does come up a little bit in the back, not bad, which would indicate it might be a smidge wide in front. However, when you get a pad under it, and your booty in the saddle, you might be just fine.

This one has got to work. The other ones we universally agreed were too wide, and I had to order the more narrow tree.

Question - it seems like you’re saying conflicting things. It looks tight in front, but then the back part being up indicates it’s too wide up front?

(this is why I want to girth the thing, I feel like I can’t tell much of anything with it just sitting up there.)

On a brand new saddle the fleece is so poofy/ thick --I think it can sometimes make it look tighter than it is or elevate it slightly in the back.

When I got my new saddle I noticed it looked a bit raised in back and was kind of freaking out ( as I had him measured and all) but once I rode in it a few times and it compressed a bit , all was fine and the sweat patterns are perfect.

Did the saddle fit well @endlessclimb ?? Surely you have had time to ride in it by now??

Ha, it’s funny you brought this up today! I just rode in it for the first time yesterday. She was a bit of a fruitloop, but I haven’t sat on her in a couple months.

Here’s pics of her in it! It seems like it fits well enough, and it’s very comfy for me.

I just thought of it today and looked on here for an update.

Nice saddle and it looks good on her! Happy ridi :slightly_smiling_face:ng

I’m guessing something on the fender might be poking her, she was acting like i was spurring her. She did eventually settle. She lunges fine in it.

I’ll take a look to see if it’s something I can fix, otherwise she will just get used to it! Sweat marks look perfect, not that that’s the end all be all. She needs a longer girth, too.

All in good time!

I imagine it is quite stiff ( being brand new and all leather) and you said she hasn’t been ridden in a long while and it is November…

Indeed. She can always be tricky in the cold, but she was extra extra. I stayed chill and helped her learn to cope with the perceived slight.

She thought the hay was free!!

Yeah, it could just be that the fenders are still stiff. It looks like a cool saddle!

I’ve been riding in it more, since it’s getting colder and I often show up to the barn dressed like a homeless blob. It puts me in a bit of a chair seat (which could be me, too - I prefer shorter stirrups which doesn’t help), but she seems to be comfy in it and that’s what matters the most.

She’s getting the hang of going around on a loose rein. Neck reining is still a work in progress.

I ride in it when I’m short on time and I don’t feel like warming up to the extent to really put her together and through. We just putz around and have a little fun.

My closet has a homeless blob section :joy:

It’s fleece lined leggings with sweats over it, a bulky vest with a hoodie under it, with a fleece on top of that if it’s cold enough. It’s my evening garb as of late - doing crap around the house and then switching shoes and heading to the barn.

I just can’t get in my english saddles dressed this way, but the western saddle? Homeless blob here, mounting right up!

Thats just about exactly what I wear too. If Im out on trails, sometimes an extra blobby rain poncho or my heavy riding coat/skirt. I just channel my inner Randy each winter.

PERFECT. Lets me eat all the cookies I want and not notice until it’s time to put breeches on, too.
