I’m really disappointed in that one to be honest. I thought he was a better horseman than that
This whole mess is so distressing.
oh wow if what’s posted there is true…yikes. All of Florida about to get shut down real quick.
I sure do hope it shuts down. This is so frightening. I’ve mentioned it to a few people who have said “What are you worried about? We vaccinate.” The lack of interest in educating one’s self is …I don’t know.
oh my…talk about willful ignorance.
Here he is competing and winning at DIHP in the same article they give EHV updates. Then he went to WEF? Yikes
I check the CDFA site every morning. We have our second quarantined location in our county (in the bay area).
March 9, 2022: A 15-year-old Quarter Horse cross gelding in San Mateo county displaying neurological signs was confirmed positive for Equine Herpesvirus Myeloencephalopathy (EHM) secondary to equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1 non-neuropathogenic strain) on necropsy on March 9th. The gelding was euthanized due to severity of clinical signs. One (1) additional horse displaying fever only with no neurological signs was confirmed positive for EHV-1. CDFA was onsite and the premises with fifty-two (52) exposed horses was placed under quarantine. CDFA will closely monitor this situation.
I have on good authority that there are also multiple non-neurologic cases in barns in San Mateo County that came back from Thermal…
Remind me why the horse was tested…USEF/FEI requirement to enter the showgrounds, or the horse showed symptoms ?
The why is unclear.
Is there a reason no one is naming the barns in San Mateo county under quarantine?
That would be most unfortunate.
Coincidentally, it was two years ago almost to the day that WEF shut down due to Covid. It went from the normal 12 ring circus to a ghost town in the blink of an eye.
Same
NCHA (cutting horse) posted about the outbreak today. They are the first I’ve seen in the solely western world.
Equine Chronicle made one post saying that the stalls at WestWorld were disinfected before the start of Sun Circuit. (https://www.facebook.com/142780401156/photos/a.143602916156/10158038695786157/)
I actually don’t know the barns. I heard of multiple EHV-1 cases from my vet (who also did not name barns), but the CDFA website won’t name barns because of confidentiality.
In San Mateo County- PVTC, Webb, Rancho Viejo, and Springdown. In Milpitas, Indian Hills had two. They think a farrier may have brought it in.
Was the horse tested or inspected? All FEI horses must have passport and proof of vaccine. If the horse was not properly vaccinated( unlikely since just cleared at an event) or if the FEI vet knew it came from a suspect venue, he might have been rejected.
Without official words, it is hard to know what actually happened. Lots of talk not a lot if facts
Here is the link to the Florida site. Again it’s important to note, as it appears with some other states, only EHV-1 neurologic is reportable.
With the diva post, I think it’s important to not read too much into it until it can be verified using a state website or the Equine Disease Communication Center
Also barns with EHV-1 cases aren’t under mandatory quarantine, per CDFA — just barns with an EHM case associated with EHV-1, so that’s not public.
Do you know which one of these had the EHM case that was reported this morning?
Based on size of barn and barn demographics, my guess is Spring Down or Rancho Viejo. Webb was the index premises in SMC, and this was a separate site, and PVTC has substantially more than 50 horses and not many 15 year old QH geldings on site.
