EHV at Thermal?

That all makes sense!

The vet that is holding the endurance event should know better as should all the ignorant people thinking it is a good idea to go to it. What event is it?

There is a USEF protocol for horses that were at Thermal and left. Before returning to competition, they must be isolated for 14 days and tested at day 7 and day 14, or isolated for 21 days and tested on day 21.

If people don’t get it after reading Nina’s story, heaven help them, and their horses.

I hope that this will make people think and be responsible, if not for their horse’s sake then for the sake of others.
Have people really transported horses from California to Florida in the midst of this outbreak?

@skydy and @Mardi1 - That’s essentially what I wrote in my comment on the Facebook post. Sometimes personal stories hit harder than data.

At this point probably many horse people in SoCal likely know one of the horses who died and/or someone at a heavily impacted barn.

Is the FEI Florida story true? Are people starting to flee WEF?

There’s been two definitive people that have done that on the thread an venter and a show jumper. The Diva rumour on the Canadian show jumper hasn’t been fully substantiated (in that he had a horse test positive) but he definitely competed week 4 and then flew to Florida and is entered this week at WEF. It’s possible he quarantined in between 14 days but it’s impossible to know, either way he definitely flew horses to WEF.

If I was a better online researcher I would try to find the State entity responsible for equine disease reporting and try to find results there, but alas, I don’t know where to begin.

If it is true that there has been a positive test at WEF in a horse that came from California, I would be a very angry human being if I had horses down there.

Great piece. I hadn’t heard that about the virus spreading via birds, though it makes perfect sense when you think about it.

You and the other several thousand horse owners there. Including the dressage people and the polo people.

It is here-- 1 case in Marion County in February, nothing else listed as yet.

Is that just a rumor or is it substantiated somewhere that a horse from California is now positive in Florida?

It’s a rumor. I have no idea if it is true. I was wondering if anyone here knew if it was, in fact, the case.

Truth.

2bayboys asked whether it was substantiated, not whether any poster was claiming it was true. Something that an anonymous poster claims is true without providing verifiable substantiation is called a rumor.

The scariest parts are the accounts of horses going straight to neuro symptoms with no elevated temperatures or any other symptoms detected. And then days later the positive test is confirmed. I’m glad some facilities are now getting access to temp stalls for isolation, but it’s too bad that loads of people didn’t do more to keep exposure down earlier on.

:face_with_symbols_over_mouth: I just bought a horse in Loxahatchee and I’m trying to get him home. #@&*!
