EMG - BULLETIN BOARD DEAD - ONTARIO

so maybe it was a good thing I asked the question and got the conversation going.

I want to also add to the sentiments that others have expressed. Thank you to the EMG moderators, EMG for having run the board for so many years and I wish it would come back.

at least we now know what is going on.

I sure will miss the emg classifieds:(

Thank you to Tandy and all the other moderators. I have been a long time member on EMG, but didn’t post a whole lot, but I read it regularly. I really enjoyed the ask the vet and classifieds but visited most areas weekly or more often.
I hope that the board come back as it is a shame to lose our local board.

It’s no EMG but I’m hoping it will be a decent replacement. I know a lot of people don’t really like using Facebook or don’t access it at all and I really miss the classifieds and the event listings.

Will miss EMG

Basically just a ditto to much of what has already been said: I am very sad to see the end of the EMG Forums. In its heyday, it was a vibrant virtual community. Sometimes it seemed like the Hatfields and McCoys or I guess, to be more Canadian, the Black Donnellys were a part of that community – but still, it was special.

I met many great people through the board and its classified ads were invaluable.

Tandy and the other moderators were almost saintly in their perseverance and patience. Thank you for the many hours you devoted to the forums.

Thank you Caper for posting that. I finally dug up my password and username for here. Funny enough the last time I used it was Thanksgiving 2004.

EMG brought about a lot of friendships, partnerships and support for many many people. IT’s amazing the bonds that can be formed without people ever meeting.

You can still reach me at aamequestrianmanagement@Hotmail.com

Thanks y’all
April (aka Tandy)

Still catching up on laundry…? I hope you use your time more wisely on more fun ventures.

HAHA!!! NO! I am at the end of the day a horse girl. Laundry is not something I find soothing. But I blame my dislike on the smart meter.

I should dig up some of the classic emails I received over the years…

Always love the entrepreneurial spirit, but please confirm whether your site is hosted in Canada or the U.S. I am thinking U.S., based on the reference on your site to the FTC, the U.S. Federal agency responsible for privacy. I ask because this may be important consideration for some of us. Thank you. Best of luck.

The site is hosted by ProBoards, which is American.

DeeVee, I had a peek and yes, it is a free US-based forum platform. (Proboards)

I’m uncomfortable joining a board when I don’t know who admins it, though. Did that once and never again. Do any of you Canadians remember a public horsey forum called TEE? (The Equine Experience?) If so, enough said.

I will really miss EMG too. Thanks to Equiman and all the mods for their tireless efforts over the years

I will for sure check out that new board. The Muck Bucket is certainly not my cup of tea.

The thing that I always appreciated about EMG was that it was a safe place to post. Tandy ran a tight ship and I knew that my personal information was secured in accordance with Canadian law…that I when I checked out I could actually leave.

In agreement, just wondering what your last point means?

I’m a long time lurker on COTH and was a regular poster on EMG. Coming out of lurk mode to join this discussion as I found the EMG board a really valuable resource for a re-rider like myself. Yesterday I found out a friend of a friend has set up a new board at www.equineontario.ca/equineontario. I hope a lot of the old EMG-ers will join. As some of the above posters said, a forum is only as good as it’s members and I always found the members had great advice and info to share.

Thanks Dee-Vee. Unfortunately there aren’t any decent Canadian hosts for free bulletin boards :frowning:

That was also one thing I disliked about the Muck Bucket was that you couldn’t delete your account. With this new board, it is very easy to delete your account if you no longer wish to have it.

pmc, I feel your pain about not wanting to join board where you don’t know the admins. I’ve seen way too many cases of admins playing favourites or sending snarky/bullying messages about members behind the scenes and it doesn’t come out until the messages accidentally get sent to the wrong person.

Many bulletin boards do not delete accounts for legal reasons.

I believe this (COTH) is one of them.
