Equestrian small businesses/minority-owned businesses?

enjoytheride was talking about my post 18, and misparaphrased what I wrote. Apparently “you would not believe the number” means ALL in some minds.

What would your reaction be if the OP would prefer to support white/straight owned businesses? Would you still call that “demonstrating a preference?”

If that were the case, the thread would’ve been locked and deleted like the Kermit Gosnell thread.

Ah the same ole same ole. People saying “white lives matter” and thinking they are saying the same thing as “black lives matter”.

BLM is a group funded by George Soros. When Hawk Newsome (the leader for BLM chapter in NY) went to our DC rally, we gave him a voice on the stage to speak. The day after, BLM disavowed him. He told us that he was trying to build bridges and the elites (aka, George Soros) didn’t like that.

White Lives do matter, as ALL lives and it’s ok to be white.

Welp. This thread has turned into a flustercuck.

OP - I think your best bet is small independent tack stores. If you want more information SITS is a good place to start (https://www.facebook.com/pg/tackstores/about/?ref=page_internal)

I also beg of you to never purchase from Tailored Sportsman again. The woman who owns the company is an absolute pill to deal with and preys on small tack shops. She is the worst elitist I’ve had the displeasure of working with.

i didn’t mean that the way you took it my apologies. I just meant for people getting up in arms over what you said that you typically post as devils advocate, as do I. So I do not understand why people are taking what you said to such an extreme or surprised by what you pointed out.

Well as soon as I see the name George Soros bandied about, I know from whence you came.

Please refer to post #63 so I don’t have to repeat myself. She didn’t say she WOULDN’T support white / straight businesses. That’s simply the inference some chose to make in order to feel all outraged and morally superior.

Sure. Not a preference I would personally exercise myself, but still a preference, and still her right, unless she was REFUSING to support minority-owned businesses. That would be discrimination.

Is that inference about me that you have made then…to feel the same?

No need to argue over semantics, the writing was on the wall.

This has nothing to do with BLM smh. A poster is asking for ways to avoid buying from straight, white people (specifically men).

Like myself and others have pointed out, if someone were to request the same but instead enter whichever minority as the one to avoid, this thread would be closed so quick.

It’s discrimination.

Customers can frequent businesses for whatever reason they choose. So while it may be discriminatory to avoid minority owned businesses, it’s their prerogative — and their loss. Those who serve the public cannot do the same.

I think discrimination is a difficult word, not even bringing in the fact that it also has a positive meaning i.e. “discriminating tastes”. There are types of discrimination which are illegal, others that are legal but questionable in terms of decency and morals, and others that are benign. Isn’t “buy American” discrimination? How about “buy local”? Or businesses owned by veterans? I think we should avoid getting hung up on the word.

Thank you for sharing those links, rather than criticism and pontificating from some, I think that this is what the OP is looking for:actual links to these smaller businesses.

Turning Point Leather makes some of the most beautiful chaps ever, and I have been promising myself for YEARS if I could lose 20 lbs I would reward myself with a pair.

A privately-owned, independent company, started by a woman in her basement and now owned by another woman Katrina Coldren (and COTH member), based in NJ and employing local women is ‘The Clothes Horse’. Beautiful blankets, beautifully made.

Already mentioned was Turning Point Leather - another independent woman-owned company, making the most exquisite chaps, belts, purses etc.
I have promised myself for years that if I would just lose 20lbs I would reward myself with a pair of her incredible chaps.
Still hasn’t happened…

Nothing “inferior” about either of those products I will point out.

My understanding of the OP was to compile a list of ‘out of the box’ equine products.
I did not see ANYTHING “discriminatory” about that.

See what happens?

Spam reported.

There’s nothing unique about any of these products, so I’m not sure how they’re “out of the box.”

That being said, no, the OP took it further and wanted nothing from anyone of “privilege.” I imagine white women also count in that regard.

Wow, I haven’t made it to the end of this fascinating thread yet but this is my take-away as well. I was not shocked by the original post but quite shocked by the defensive and angry responses.

Wow.

See, I read it as “the poster would like to support minority, LGBTQ or women-owned businesses.”

Why is it bad to support women-owned businesses, if you are a woman?
Why would it be bad to support minority-owned businesses, if you are a minority?

Etc.

You see this as “avoiding buying from straight white men.” I guess we see what we want to see.

Is there any acceptable way of wanting to support a women/minority/LGBTQ owned business? Or are all of them unacceptable and simply “reverse discrimination?”

Do we need to make all ownership information secret so as not to prey upon our own preferences or even, our own prejudices?
