Equestrian themed baby names?

It’s been the ultimate struggle trying to come up with baby names that both DH and I can agree on. I prefer strong, simple, classic names and it just dawned on me that the horse world might be perfect to draw inspiration from as all those adjectives seem to also reflect the equestrian lifestyle. Plus, I think it’d be great for my child to have a horsy-inspired name (we don’t have to share that with DH) So, let’s hear what you can come up with? Not gender specific (although mostly stuck on boy names), can be horse names or horse related! Just for fun!

Some inspiration to get you started;

Hack
Hunter
Hoof pick?

You’re going to name your kid Hoof pick? Or Hack? As in the dog “hacked” it up? I don’t get this, even as a joke.

Colt
Bay
Sorel
Devon
Derby
Pelham

Ryder

That’s about all I can think of for a baby, I could use some others for dogs names though lol

Rider/Ryder?

so Stud isn’t in the running?

a common girl’s name would be Morgan

Those were mostly used To include a touch of humour… Clearly I would never name my child hoofpick, I do work with a man named Hack, although it’s not something I’d likely use. Thanks for your positive imput though:D

Well, I think Todd Minikus named his son Colt. Can’t get much more literal or horsie than that!

Bay, Meadow, Apple, Dock

I think Bay or Sorrel could be cute. Also…Hunter, Derby, Devon, Phillipa or Phillip (means lover of horses), Colton, Buck, Ryder, Roana, Ronan (could even spell it Roanan or Roanen), Morgan, Reiner, Roper.

Why not pick a name that references someone who has done well, accomplished much, or whom you admire in the world of horses?

Ronald – Ron Turcotte, Secretariat’s jockey
Penny (usually short for Penelope) – Penny Chenery (aka Mrs. Tweedy in 1973) – Secretariat’s owner
Rosie – Rosie Napravnik, successful jockey

I’m definitely not up on big names in horses, but, you get the idea.

I think Sorrell is fantastic for a little girl, although our odds or producing a redhead are purity darn low!

Love this idea woofandwhinny! I’m also really not up on current horsey events, but did toy with Miller a bit (as in Ian Miller)!

“Hack” (N): A worn-out horse for hire; a jade.

a. One who undertakes unpleasant or distasteful tasks for money or reward; a hireling.

Not exactly positive connotations.

I’ve seen Hunter for a boy’s name quite frequently.

It’s actually Millar!

Sadler, Colt, Felicity and call her Filly, Roan, Phillip and Phillippa, for lover of horses, Crosby, Chase, for steeplechase, Hunter,

Saw this and saw Whinny/Winnie. Thats kinda cute

I went to hs with a girl named Ruffian, after the racehorse! Her mom - um, the girl, not the horse - is an equine vet.

So maybe consider actual names of horse in addition to names of objects?

I like Hunter.

Morgan?

Rohan? (Riders of Rohan, yes I am a dork) Used to have a dog called Sorrel :stuck_out_tongue:

As to Hack, it is a known name maybe nickname? I wonder what the origins of it as a name is?

Great ideas on names. I have none to add yet.
