One of the false Court documents presented said he had it.

:frowning:

There are a couple types of brain cancer; named for the cell type they arise from. Some are non malignant but still problematic. Some are treatable others not. Glioblastoma multiform is likely the worse of the lot and not a promising diagnosis.

My heart goes out to everyone in this thread who have lost loved ones to this terrible disease.

Google “Belle Gibson” (Australian case).

They wrote a book about the case which was really interesting. She still will not take responsibility for lying.

Unreal. As if the horse dealings alone were not slimy enough.

People that fake cancer are the lowest slime…. As someone that’s had breast cancer I just …… I’m beyond angry!

My NJ high school had an unusual high occurrence of a rare form of glioblastoma; several teachers and former students were diagnosed and many died, including a friend of mine. To fake an illness so horrible is just disgusting, and a poor excuse for his past actions.

I’m a bit relieved that there’s no mention of him killing horses for insurance, or horribly abusing them (that we know of). His friend/lawyer is in a tight spot as well. What to believe?

At least the lawyer is smart enough to know to abort and abandon ship rather than double down and go up in flames. Some could learn from his example.

As a lawyer who thinks ethics are really important, when you have a client and friend who tells you things you think are true, for decades, you aren’t in any legal trouble if you find out they aren’t true and fire the client.

I have been practicing law for 18, almost 19 years and have never had to fire a client. This is very rare in the civil law context.

If the lawyer was complicit he should be disbarred, but it is quite possible he didn’t know anything about it. There needs to be an investigation to figure that out. It could go either way. Not sticking up for the lawyer either…but there will have to be an inquiry to determine who knew what and when.

Oh right… Beth Underhill!! Wow, I wonder how she figures in to all of this and/or if/how she’s going to extricate herself. I forgot she was there now.

Who knew we Canadians were so shady!

Yes to this. Cheating at horse selling is bad enough. But faking end-stage cancer?
Beyond the pale.
From the article:
"Justice Hurtz had previously dismissed Lamaze’s request to adjourn and wrote, ”Mr Lamaze attempted to perpetrate a fraud on the court by filing three forged letters, which falsely purport to be medical reports regarding Mr. Lamaze’s dire medical condition. Mr. Morse argues that if that fraud were not sufficiently egregious, Mr. Lamaze feigned end-stage cancer, which is an insult to all who have suffered from that dreaded malady. He did so only to avoid a “day of reckoning” in an action that was commenced more than ten years ago but has yet to reach trial.”

As someone who has lost friends and siblings to cancer, it makes me sick to think that he would do this.
My sympathies to all here who have lost loved ones to this terrible disease.

I have been on the receiving end of some sketchy doings by the Martins.

That’s disappointing.

I really hope that Beezie is one of the few good ones.

I’m also very content in the knowledge that I am just a little amoeba in an unfortunately polluted pond. Insignificant and doing my own thing but happy I don’t have to deal with any of the unethical big fish.

In all these years, I’ve never heard anyone say one bad thing about her.

And I’ve seen her cleaning her own tack at a horse show after winning a big class, and actually picking out the feet of a horse at the farm herself. So I can’t make any promises, but I have a very high opinion of her.

I think there are probably some others out there as well. They just don’t grab headlines by doing the right thing.
