Wow! Why?
You may want to post this on Facebook Sandhills Equestrian, Sandhills Area Equestrians, Triangle Area Equestrian pages. You’ll reach more people.
Nonpayment of rent, I would imagine.
Thankfully most local people already knew there was something NQR about this person. I posted it here because people who don’t know her, and only see her social media and her USEF/USDF awards, have sent her horses.
Please note that before legal eviction can take place there are certain remedies for the tenant to use or delay the eviction. States do vary as to the time extended.
this right here is an alarm bell. I recognize this name and I live in the upper left hand corner.
Might want to post this on Sport Horse Breeding
Interesting - and a bit shocking. She has been building a nice collection of well-bred broodmares for some time and uses well-regarded stallions (mostly via frozen from Europe). She is also an attorney, so it is pretty surprising to hear this news, but it sounds as though she maybe got too far out over her skies financially. I hope it is all a misunderstanding and will be resolved without too much impact to the horses.
Well, there’s this:
DY, unfortunately this isn’t a case of someone getting briefly overextended and selling a foal or two to make it up. This is a pattern of behavior as evidenced by the large number of previous trainers of her horses who are under a NDA she wrote, in order for them to get partial payment.
So, she’s faking having medical bills to try to crowd source money to get out of her equine business financial woes?
Neck like a brass monkey.
Don’t have a clue who she is, but saw that posted on the Dressage Breeders FB group. She allegedly sold frozen semen straws that she did not have.
On top of everything else how many years was she purporting to be a lawyer in NC despite not being licensed in NC? She is licensed in Georgia.
May all the horses be OK. She can rot in a pit - AFTER she has repaid every stolen penny with interest.
Dear God, that is infuriating, as well as sad. I have been away from the breeding world for many years so I hadn’t heard about this scandal. I met her once or twice at an inspection that I organized, and even considered sending my mare to her to be bred and kept there and for the foal to be raised there. I never once got the vibe that she was scamming folks.
And she is not only a law school grad but also holds an MBA, both from Emory. I think the law degree focused on transactional law and the MBA focused on finance and investments. She was in the Atlanta area for a short time but as she continued to build up her breeding herd, she moved the operation to NC. I wonder if she is actually still practicing law - perhaps driving back and forth from the NC property to Atlanta?
I also wonder about the NDAs she was making people sign. Why didn’t she want them to talk about their arrangement? And even more curious is why did they go along with it? That would been a very big red flag to me. She never mentioned something like that when I was considering a business arrangement with her, but our talks didn’t get too in depth before I realized it wasn’t a good time to breed my mare. But I would have backed away very fast if she had asked me to sign an NDA…
Unbelievable that someone with a dual JD/MBA - esp. from Emory - would not consider the fact that her scam would become public knowledge at some point. Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot.
This is the third breeder debacle I’ve heard of in the last few months! The other two were KWPN breeders, similar programs with custom foals.
It’s been my experience that the people with legal training seem to believe that their schooling will infinitely protect them from doing something illegal. That, obviously, is untrue.
Or they think since they “know about the law,” they can devise a scheme to get around it and not be caught. And that is even more wicked than naively believing they won’t do anything illegal because they have legal knowledge.
I just searched for her GoFundMe account and am not getting a hit. Did she delete it?
