Evil Burrito is got his own Donkey House (with pictures)

I had never seen that style of gate used for horses before, and I wasn’t sure? if you were going to use the style with ply on the back? (like a cross buck design) or leave them open. I wonder? why folks don’t do this gorgeous style more often for horse gates? They’re so pretty![/QUOTE]

No, we went with this design because if it was a solid door, Odie would probably spend all his time standing up and trying to see out (which he does in my ramp-style horse trailer, which makes me nervous and I shut the dutch doors), and I’d be worried he’d try to jump out. And it’s solid, not worried about anyone getting a leg hung and causing major issues. If Odie is locked in, most likely so would everyone else, so no playing through the gates, but they can play from under the board all day long

And thanks, my Dad hand-made them. He’s handy like that

Odie is Stylin’!!!

What a great photo story board! Odie is too freaking cute, as is Rory. They look like Trouble with a capital “T”! Great job! That’s one very special little donk! Feel free to post updates!

Great pictures!! I love my donkeys!

We’re building a horse/donkey/mini donkey shelter right now and I fantasize about being done…and having the time and weather to get it done. Winter needs to wait.

Haha! Donkey creep!

ODIE PORN!!! YAY!!
Love the updates, photos, and story.

Awesome Donkey Palace! lucky Odie.

OK, so I installed the hook-n-eye closures to keep the doors open, and failed at installing something to keep the doors closed. I thought the sliding bolt thing would work, alas non. Doors just push/pull right open. Need something better, maybe giant hook-n-eye? Hmmm.

BUT!!

Here is my little helper, loving his new shelter!
Odie-high windows!
See all the helping he does!
And as you can tell from the dirt and hair, the Rory-board is working quite well.

You could drill a hole through both those doors and use a hitch pin. I think donkey/horse lips could undo a hook and eye ? (Can you tell I own an escape artist?) I see Odie has his own tools.

You may need to add a way to secure one side to the ground … cement, rod that drops down into hole, etc.

Glad Odie is enjoying his windows.

Could you just chain both sides together with a short, light chain and a snap, at least until you figure a latch you like better?

Bluey’s right, if the shelter isn’t anchored to the ground, and when the winds come, you might have a very interestingly tilted shelter. That happened a lot in New Mexico during windy season in January-February, and during huge thunderstorms. Remember, if Odie loses his home, then he’ll have to bunk with you until it’s repaired, because he’s totally in love with shelter. I bet he’s be a bed hog too.

We considered it  My Dad is originally from here; this thing is super heavy. If we get a big one, like 80-100 mpher, I’ll be worried…but I’ll also have other things to worry about ;).
