Does anyone have suggestions of European based top dressage stallions with excellent quality frozen semen?
Johnson
Uphill
Flemmingh (if you can find)
Ferro
Just personal experience ones, there are several I’ve heard have excellent.
Stallions I have used that I would consider to have above average frozen:
Sir Donnerhall
For Compliment
Romanov
Diamond Hit
Don Frederico
Sandro Hit
Jazz
Ferro
Sir Donnerhall
Rotspon
Negro
Johnson
Belissimo
Denario
Dauphin
Romanov
Furst Piccolo
Inspekteur actually has sensational frozen also and I know there’s still some kicking around.
Hate to correct Formosus… BUT the Jazz semen that is available now is USELESS! Jazz used to have great frozen semen but for some reason he is now being collected by a different place that has produced some of the worst frozen semen in the past.
Go with a reputable stallion station and you will get a good product. At ths point I only get frozen semen that comes from VDL (Kathy Hickerson), Nijhof and Schockemoehle, plus Hilltop and Superior Equine Sires. I’ve also done a fair amount of business with Judy Yancey but am a little disappointed that she sells Jazz semen now…
Just my opinon…
Agree with Siegi. And DeNiro is another who used to be great, but no one is having much luck with his current stuff since they change the protocol.

Thanks everyone.
For Compliment… anyone have personal experience with temperament of his offspring?

I have a yearling that has a SUPER character. He is so easy to deal with but so is his mother and he is very much like her. I know someone else who has one from him and he was pretty cheeky  But these are young horses that are not yet under saddle so really …??
Keep in mind with FC that you need a modern type mare with blood. He is a very substantial stallion. Also keep in mind that the semen I used was frozen at Schockehmohle’s when he was standing there. I don’t know if the semen that is now available is from the same source or if it has been frozen elsewhere. Maybe something to look into.
Hi, Gayle in Oregon… Please contact Carol Austin of Superior Equine Sires to get the “whole story”. She discontinued carrying frozen Jazz semen because of the situation I mentioned.

Aww that is too bad about Jazz. But good to know!
A few years ago when I was considering him he was considered almost as sure a bet as Sandro Hit.
It’s true I haven’t heard of as many foals by him on this side of the pond…
I think there is no frozen semen of For Compliment available in the USA anymore.

I couldn’t find any…
Alright, so I guess I could start another thread for this… but for those who have responded here, with experience successfully breeding with frozen…
I have a really unique opportunity presented to me by a training client who’s mare I ride, and adore. I get one shot (one breeding season) for an ET. I would happily PM all the mare’s details to anyone who wants to help me with the decision. The mare is a proven FEI competitor, registered and will easily be accepted to a mare book for any registry her pedigree is accepted for. I am digging to track down half and 3/4 sisters where she was imported from, that may have riding age offspring on the ground to help know what she may cross well with.
I would love if my #1 best choice was stateside and we can use fresh. I just didn’t want to start with that limitation in place. I have emails in to some of the frozen semen agents and stallion representatives I know as well.
Anyway, that is why I am asking. If anyone wants to chime in, with more specific information just shoot me a PM.
Jazz Semen is still great!!
Ok, so here I’m starting this post with a big apology to Judy Yancey for making statements regarding the quality of frozen Jazz semen without going to the source first.
Turns out the frozen Jazz semen sold by Judy has, in fact, been collected and processed some years ago and has been getting mares pregnant all along! She has sold all 40 doses she had at the beginning of this year and has had no complaints from mare owners.
We all know that Jazz semen has always been of very good quality and so I actually just purchased the last dose of frozen Jazz that Judy had available!!! It looks like she’ll be getting in more of the previously frozen stuff for next year and I’m glad it will continue to be available to American breeders.
Not sure if there is any still around but Rhoades Scholar had good frozen semen. I used it when I was in vet school for my first attempt at frozen. I sort of screwed up the thawing and mare still got pregnant.
We have had great success with Dressage Royal frozen.
