F.T. Saratoga Select Yearlings 2018

August 6th and 7th. I very much look forward to watching this sale on line every year. ( I’ve moved Dr. and P.T. appointments so to have the sale dates free to watch).

This will be the first look for the general public at some of the best sale yearlings by freshman sires, such as American Pharoah, Carpe Diem, Tapiture, Liam’s Map, Honor Code, Tonalist, Competitive Edge, Bayern, and Constitution, as well as the usual proven sire power (Tapit, Curlin, Hard Spun, Union Rags, Malibu Moon, City Zip, Uncle Mo, etc…).

It seems to me that there are more interesting freshman sires represented this year than there have been in recent years.
I must say, I never tire of seeing the lovely offspring of impressive race horses that are accompanied by some very impressive pedigrees.

Did you forget FTK a few weeks ago? http://www.fasigtipton.com/ci/results/view/2018/The-July-Sale I saw quite a few nice horses there, watching online. First-year stallions looked pretty good.

No, I didn’t forget. I watched the sale. Saratoga usually has the “fancier” yearlings and there seem to be more of the get of the freshman sires in the Saratoga catalog this year, especially from AP and Carpe Diem.

There were some very nice ones at the FTK though.

I have not turned my TV on during the day since May.

IDK, finding that elusive G1SW is not as easy as spending the most money. You usually need to spend 6 figures, but there have been plenty of 7 figure horses that don’t so as well as those who cost 6 figures. Would love to see Mendelssohn come back and win the BC.

No one said that finding that elusive G1SW is easy or guaranteed by spending 7 figures. We all know that some of the beautifully bred, gorgeous, expensive yearlings sold at Saratoga every year will never see the track. The point is, the sale is fun to watch.

I didn’t know that it was televised. I’ve only seen it online.

I’m looking forward to seeing the Honor Codes. There was one in July but I missed seeing her.

There’s a filly from the (distant) family of Dubawi. I think I would make every deal with the devil I could to buy a horse with Dubawi on the page!

I’m a doer, not a watcher.

That’s nice. Will you be there bidding?

I can only watch, and enjoy doing so very much. For those who enjoy watching the sale  there are 2 videos up so far on Thoroughstride. http://www.thorostride.com/taxonomy/term/255.
The consignors that provide video usually wait until very close to sale time so there may be more to come.

Giggling at the music and pasture video with the AP colt. I’ve never seen that type of production in years of watching pre-sale Thoroughstride videos.

Good lord LaurieB, didn’t you breed Shriek? I remember how well her Candy Ride filly raced. I remember you had sold her, but how exciting that she has a filly in the Saratoga sale!

You must be thrilled, and I am thrilled for you!

Yes, we bred and raced Shriek, and also bred her first four foals including the Candy Ride filly, Paid Up Subscriber. This filly was bred by SF Bloodstock (Shriek’s current owner). I saw her last November when she sold as a weanling. I hope she does really well for her current owners, especially since we own Shriek’s half-sister All Aces who is in foal to Runhappy. By the way, Paid Up Subscriber is in foal to Medaglia D’Oro.

Well done Laurie. I’ll be sure not to miss Shriek’s Saratoga filly and to keep up with All Aces and Paid Up Subscriber’s foals.

Nope, my barn is full. And yearlings are a pretty risky purchase, not my taste at all. I’ve never bought anything younger than 2 yo. Are you buying anything? How is your barn doing this year?

Actually I’m changing my mind. I’m up there that weekend, so I think I’ll go look at some youngsters and see if anyone is looking to put together a partnership on something. That way I can write off my trip even if I don’t buy anything!!! Thanks!!!

Happy to hear Paid Up Subscriber is doing well. Was fun to follow her through you.
Love Runhappy.
Love Medaglia D’Oro.
And one of my favorite memories of all time was visiting Darley and watching him and Street Cry grazing in neighboring paddocks, and imagining their discussions of their daughters…

I love visiting Darley. They have an incredible roster of stallions. Every one is interesting (and handsome).

That’ll be fun. I’d ask which hips you are interested in but I’m sure you don’t want to tip your hand!

I’ve always hoped to attend one day. Saratoga is a reasonable drive from my father’s home so a visit to him could be combined with the sale, but it’s not in the cards this year.
It would be nice to see how the yearlings move instead of just seeing them in the sales ring. Not that I’m complaining. I’m happy that the sale is streamed online.

LaurieB, Fed Biz gets some pretty youngsters. I bet Shriek’s filly is a looker.

You must have been blessed at birth with all the knowledge to get through life. The rest of us learn a lot by watching then doing.

I sat in sales pavilion for years watching and learning before I bid on my first horse.
