Does Go For Gin count as famous since he won the Derby? He’s my horse’s sire, dam side has Damascus pretty close up.
Lovely!! Our boys don’t really look like brothers, do they?
Ha ha! Nope but both super great boys.
Famous is, sometimes, in the eye of the beholder. I like TBs but don’t necessarily keep apprised of their lineage. I was told after I bought my OTTB that his sire, Cairo Price, is desirable. Maybe someone on this board could tell me whether that’s true
I rode Lord Capitol a few times back in the day. He was the most dreamy horse! And almost an iridescent solid white color. He glowed kind of like a Akhal Teke!
I have a grandson of Storm Cat, and a paint to boot.
One of mine is by Medaglia D’Oro (sire of Rachel Alexandra) and was the first foal out of a Grade 2 stakes-winning mare. He was a $500k yearling and I bought him at the tiniest fraction of that price. He is a prince and he knows it!
My other TB has more blue collar bloodlines, but is by a son of Pulpit that is out of a sister to Exogenous. He acts like a horse that is expected to come to work and put in an honest day’s work.
My Tb I bought a few years ago is by Smart Strike. I fell in love with her right away because I was a big racing fan and I was at the breeders cup the year smart strike sired a classic, turf, and sprint winner on the same day.
She had a super sweet face and fuzzy baby ears and that was it for me. She never raced because her breeder/trainer said she was slow and not worth the entry fees and gave her to me.
I only ever competed her up to the .90s but she has a giant, smooth, slow stride and a super soft mouth. She grew to 17h and never ever ever stopped at a jump. She’s 11 now and taken 2 different riders from local xrail jumpers up to circuit championships at WEF and WEC in the .85s and never pinned an ear at anyone and the worst thing she ever does is drop a pole. And they got to do their costume classes and dollar bare backs and all that stuff with her.
So if I ever find a cute fuzzy smart strike baby again I’m taking it lol
My heart horse, now retired, is by Indoctro out of a Voltaire mare. Still one of the most athletic, catty, sensitive, sensible and most even tempered courageous horses I’ve ever sat on. Wish life had given me more time actively competing with him but worth every poor student penny I invested in him. My life has forever changed having known him, made me appreciate good breeding and all it can deliver. He is now the designated babysitter and responsible for taking those who don’t know how to ride on the trail. He knows the route, instructions are to hold the ‘oh shoot’ strap and let him do his thing. Hasn’t stepped a foot wrong.
Oh wow! That is pretty dang cool
Awe, we have half-brothers. My daughter’s newish, young horse is by Cornet Obolensky out of a Diamant de Semilly mare Is yours grey? Ours is huge, grey and super athletic.
Ours has Selle Francais in his damline also, but he is bay and on the smaller side. He seems pretty athletic but we were taking things slow and now he’s laid up with an injury, so we’ll see fingers crossed
jingles for successful healing!
Cairo Prince was a graded SW at 2 and 3 is a good mid-level sire. Here’s a link to his online Stallion Register page:
I’ve got a red(!) gelding that is Colman X Carolus I.
My other guy has Casall, Calido I, and Quidam de Revel. And he is growing into an absolute dinosaur, which I wasn’t really expecting.
I have two lovely Trakehners with pretty superb pedigrees! I am also a Trakehner junkie, so I will humor everyone with typing out way too much
My older mare (Aurelia NSF) is by the Elite stallion Windfall. Windfall competed for the USA in the 2004 Olympics in Athens earning Team Bronze. He also won the first ‘short’ format at Kentucky (Rolex) along with Indiv Gold at the PanAm games. Windfall went on to compete in GP dressage after retiring from eventing. Windfall’s sire, Habicht, was a successful upper level event horse competed at Burghley. Injuries to Habicht’s rider is the only thing that kept Habicht from being on the 1976 German Olympic team and 1978 World Games Team for Germany. Habicht’s sire, Burnus AA, competed in upper level eventing for the German team with Reiner Klimke. Windfall’s dam, a thoroughbred named Wundermaedel xx, was a successful Adv level event horse and sired by the top German steeplchaser in German in the 1980s. Wundermaedel produced multiple stallions and upper level horses.
My mare’s daughter (After the Storm LSE) boasts her mother’s eventing royalty and is by the Elite stallion Herzensdieb. Herzensdieb was the Trakehner Verband licensing Champion stallion his year. Herzensdieb was the Reserve Champion of his 70-Day Testing and won the cross country with 9.5 and received a 9.0 for trot, 9.5 for canter, and 8.5 for walk. Herzensdieb has an FN breeding value for dressage of 142 with a security of 94% placing him in the top 10% of German Dressage Sires. He has approved sons and has produced top level horses in dressage and eventing. Herzensdieb’s sire, Elite stallion Tambour, is by one of the most successful dressage sires of recent history - Elite stallion Hohenstein. Tambour has produced several approved sons and upper level horses in all disciplines. Tambour won the jumping at his performance test and was trained through advanced level dressage. Herzensdieb’s dam, Elite and State Premium Herzensfreude, produced successful breeding and performance horses. Damsire, Elite stallion Tivano, who produced numerous Elite and Premium offspring.
Hope y’all enjoyed my short story!
I had a Coleman in my possession recently and man, I loved that horse. But of course, he was grey
He was the definition of “good boy”. He definitely had some trauma from a previous rider, but really did all the things I asked of him. Including hauling out to trails. He went from FEI to his new home where he goes on beach adventures and does dressage for fitness.
I was told that the Colman offspring tend to have that temperament (including from people who were not involved in the sale of my horse), and it is a big reason I bought him. He is still a horse and has some insecurities and is sensitive but he really is a solid “good boy”. I would take 100 of this kind.
I have a Storm Cat - who is famous in his own right
I had an amazing Hanoverian gelding, who was sired by Brentano II, who is also the sire of Brentina (Debbie MacDonald’s Olympic level dressage horse). Old school heavier type Hano, but he was the fanciest, smoothest, most gorgeous mover that I had ever seen and had the privilege to ride. There is a long back story as to how I was able to buy this guy (I won’t bore people) but I unfortunately lost him to colic at the age of ten a few years ago. I loved that damn horse and I still tear up when I think of him.
