Farnley ponies, Foxhollow ponies & Glenmore ponies
Farnley Lustre, foaled 1956, was arguably the most prominent and successful pony stallion of modern times. Called the stallion of the century and Farnely Farms most prominent sire, his bloodlines are still found today in the most successful of pony hunters. Lustre sired some 153 purebred welsh stallions as well as some of America’s top pony hunter stallions including Farnley Belshazzar and Helicon Epic, to name a few.

I doubt this was the one you rode, and Russ never owned him either…
It was not the stallion Farnley Lustre, it was one of his foals named Farnley Lustre after him, I will ask my trainer who his damn and such was:)

I dont think the Farnley farm would use the name again and the Farnley farm is the only place that should use the prefix.

Maybe you were mistaken that the one you rode was related to Lustre.

His show name was Farnley Lustre, but like I said, I’ll talk to my trainer

OMG. I am thrilled beyond reason. I just opened the picture from pony finals 1981. There stood our little Velvet (Private Collection, )AKA Green Valleys April Velvet) sire of our Blue Who. What a treat. I will add it to the huge collage of pictures we have of Velvet during her showing career.

What a great find Sandy!! That musta been like Christmas!!!

I got silly and did some research!

Something about this thread got me wondering whether it’s just an old tale that prefixes get lost. This thread noted some super famous prefixes, but, like Farnley, some are no more (or almost) due to the passage of time. So I got to wondering what prefixes are still out there in abundance (and success). So, so, here’s a “kudos to you” list of prefixes among the entries at the 2008 Pony Finals.

Oh, but first, would you like to guess which prefixes had the most ponies at the finals? For those who want to guess, I’ve left some space before presenting the results.

BTW, are Clovermeade and Clovercroft related? Each seem to have a lot of “Bunny” ponies.

The owners of Clovercroft and Clovermeade used to be partners, then they split. Cloe Olympian stayed at Clovercroft - he is now deceased and they have a young son, Clovercroft Spring Away, coming along. Clovercrofts Brenin (full brother to Swing Away)and some others are with Clovermeade.

At my barn in New York, we have Glenmore’s Sweet Spring who is by Glenmore Sneakers and Dancing Shoes who is by Glenmore Sneakers as well. They have different mothers however. Glenmore’s Sweet Spring won the hack in the s/m children’s ponies at Zone 2 Hunter finals this year, and is now competing in the medium greens and medium pony hunters and qualified at her first show.

Betty may have to confirm this but wasn’t one of the well known ponies of the 90s was a Glenmore sans the prefix.

Oh and I dunno if it was mentioned but Glenmore Trix

farnley lustre

any one know much about this pony? I have heard he was great but nothing specific… we have a lrg. welsh cross out of him who we love!

Not completely accurate. Here are the results, with prefixes:

See post 99.

What prefixes, VABred? I got my data from the raw data of the actual competition results, via a search on USEF. I put all the ponies (ALL, not just the ones who placed) in a chart and then sorted them by name. (Took me quite some time as the file was HUGE and I thought MS Word had totally frozen trying to handle it all, so I left and came back to it later to find it had finally loaded.)

So, I think my results are probaby more accurate than COTHs unless COTH did a search specifically for all entries. Did I miss that somewhere?

Wait For The Beep was a Glenmore. He was one of Glenmore Pinkie’s children. Also Trix was one of Pinkie’s. They were originally Glenmore Pink Slip and Glenmore Tickled Pink. Both by Grey Cloud.
Magical Cloud was by Grey Cloud, but was not a Glenmore.
People not only drop preifx, but add them to names as well. There was Farnley I Guess, and Farnley I’m Not, and another Farnley__________. The second name was another breeder’s prefix. The pony was from neither farm.
Oh, while I’m posting…Wynn, the Grey Cloud son you were talking about is Glenmore Something Blue (Coed Coch Grey Cloud x Honeymoon x Forge Nimbus)

I wonder how many stallions and prefixes were never given credit because of name changes and not registering sire?

What about
Halcyon
Mapleside
Bracewood
glannant
liseter

Too many.

Pink Slip

I showed against Glenmore’s Pink Slip! What a great pony!

Anyone know what happened to him?

Lot of Foxhollow Singing Star ponies had the name dropped and no one really knew they were Foxhollow. Like Durban Castle, Lacega Lady, all the Zim’s ponies, Needles N Pins…etc.
