Mine charges $50 for barefoot trim, $190 for 4 shoes. $200 for fronts with pads. He makes custom shoes for my guys when they are in shoes. He does not charge to replace a shoe but I always give him $20-$40 anyway. He will usually come within 2 days to replace a shoe. I basically throw money at my farrier because I feel he is the most important person involved with my horses.

Houston, TX - paying $200 for four shoes, nothing fancy. For just fronts and a trim behind, it was $150. I’ve paid up to $250 for 4 all around, nothing fancy. $25 to tack on a shoe if he’s already there.

It’s $175 for four flat shoes. She has an “expensive” reputation but think that’s mostly because she does a lot of therapeutic shoeing and that’s obviously more.

She replaces removed shoes free.

Edited to add that I am currently paying $75 extra for fancy wide web thick Al shoes (ACR), each of which comes in its own little plastic bag. They come from France. There’s also a leather pad on one foot with some medicated packing to help with the aftermath of the abscess from H@!!

los Angeles area.

My current farrier is charging $225 for 4 regular steel shoes $245+ for aluminum or any types of pads …$125 for steel fronts/hind trim …and went from $50 trims to now $65…he charges $50 evrytime he comes out to fix a sprung/lost shoe …previous farriers I’ve had never charged to fix a shoe and never paid more than $50 for trims

So Cal. $150.00 for a full set, $40 for trim, $80 for 1/2 shoe. I have to have more than one at the appointment, and I try to schedule groups to make the most of his time. No charge to fix pulled or sprung shoes.

I’m in Atlanta and I pay $250 full set with pads. My farrier does not charge for resets or corrections between trims and resets. He has the patience of a saint and works closely with my vet - he’s priceless and worth every penny for his expertise!

Florida here. $40/trim, $110 for front shoes, $150 for all 4. Replaces lost shoes for free. I am not sure about pads, as none of mine have ever needed them. Wow, my area is cheap, as that is the going rate pretty much across the board. There are a few farriers that are actually CHEAPER than that, but there is a reason and no one with any knowledge would let them touch their horse with a 10 foot pole.

$200 for a full set (4 shoes) and he hot-shoes! This is in SE Pennsylvania near Philadelphia. Really great guy who always shows up when he says.

I’m in CT, so just out of your area but probably close in price. Paying $275 for four regular steel (drilled and tapped) and $65 for trim no shoes (two different farriers). So far I haven’t been asked to pay to fix a shoe, though I typically ask as it is time and travel for my farrier. My vet wants me to ask about glue-on for the one in shoes…I’m almost afraid to ask given the price of plain steel

I"m in way northern NY. $40 for a trim, $95 for fronts and $145 for 4. I pay another 30 for drill and tap on the hinds but those shoes are redone a few times so it’s only the first time the shoe is made. Then another $50 for snow pads come November and again those usually last the winter.

DFW, Texas - $40 for trims, $120 for normal front steel shoes, $145 for my complicated dude who has one leg with a custom leather pad since he’s pigeon toed and that leg is shorter than the other.

Customized aluminum up front with a rim pad and steel behind: $235 in MD. He doesn’t charge to fix a flat tire (although it’s common around here to charge $10 or so if it’s a special trip.) My farrier is the primary reason my horse is sound; he’s worth every cent.

reset a thrown shoe is free but he may or may not be around so I pay a different carrier $20-25 to reset a thrown shoe. Rare to have one thrown

I’m in Bucks Co PA and won’t horrify you with the prices I pay for shoes…but my farrier is the best of the best. But I will say he has never, and would never, charge me to come fix a shoe on one of my personal horses or a client horse. It’s just part of the package.

We pay $220 for a full set in Northern Maryland, and we get no price break on resets. But he does make each shoe out of a bar of steel in front of us when we need new ones. And that’s a lot of time and work so it he sort of subsidizes the cost that way. He also puts lost shoes back on or makes a new shoe if we can’t find the missing one for free. We have one horse who is extra talented at yanking shoes, so in the summer our farrier will glue shoes on problem feet for no extra charge.

In central MD, I’m paying in the $225-240 range for fronts with pads and packing underneath for sole support, trim behind. Non-specialty fronts run $150, and a trim all around is $60. All hot-shod when applicable. No discount for resets. That said, if my farrier is out for another horse and takes a look at mine and rasps off a bit of toe, clinches in a nail, does a quick gait check, or some other teeny adjustment for “in between” cycles, there’s no charge. I always offer and he just waves me off.

He’s on the pricey side, but given his skills, patience, and willingness to work directly with my vet to improve my horse’s awful feet, he’s worth every penny to me. I wouldn’t have a rideable horse without him.
