Favorite 100g Turnout Blanket - 2022 edition

I just received that blanket yesterday for my gelding and I love it. It fits true to size (a 75 in this case), is a perfect weight, and the quality is great. I’m looking for one now for my pony and I wish they made it in my mini size for my donkey!

Which one did you buy again?

I ordered a 100 gram from Schneiders for my pony that hasn’t arrived yet. I haven’t bought a blanket from there for many years, so I’ll be curious to see the quality.

And I received this yesterday for my gelding. I even think it’s pretty!

Can you describe the liner attachments on it?

PS I have a two year old version of that blanket and really like it. Mine doesn’t have liner attachments though

This is the sheet I bought, and then bought two liners (med/lite and med) to go with it. I LOVE it. The sheet fits perfect, and the liner so far is pretty cool.

@lenapesadie - the liners have four connections in the front (two on each side, velcro tabs go thru the metal connectors on the sheet/blanket) and then the back has a snap to connect it to the d-ring on the sheet/blanket. The front does up with velcro, so you don’t have a bunch of bulk. I’ve taken it off a few times and it’s not much different than just handling a blanket. Nothing has shifted. I will note that WB usually fits my guys really well.

I have one of the liners but my older WB blankets don’t have the rings I guess, just the rings for the hoods. My oldie says he needs a new sheet so am considering getting him that sheet so I can use the liner I already have! Thanks for the info.

I bought a 100g horseware liner last year bc I find my 100g Rambo so useful and wanted to be able to add the liner to either of my 2 Rambo sheets for my other horse (they wear the same size - it’s quite convenient!). I didn’t end up doing it last year and only when breaking out the liner this year did I realize the now defunct biz I got the liner from sent me the wrong size :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: Think I can stuff a 81 liner into a 78?? I really could use it now with this current weather!

the neck blankets keep the body blanket forward. They make 0g neck covers.

Yes it should be fine. There might be a bit of liner poking out the bottom that will get wet/dirty but as long as the horse doesn’t get a hoof on the edge of the liner getting up it should be ok.

Second that. I’ve done it many times because my only Rambo liner is 81”, my only blanketed horses currently are 78”, and I am cheap.

Thanks @Libby2563 and @theresak. I’m going to try it today and already wondering if it might be worth taking it to my amazing seamstress to shorten it somehow before it gets stinky from my piggy mare

Updating thread with my review of the new Rambo Autumn. It is a sheet with a 100g liner option that goes on the top of the horse.

It is really interesting…the softshell material is thin and soft. Hoping it is durable too but IDK, have some reservations about that. It’s VERY thin and stretchy. The horse I bought it for rubs very easily, though, and I am hopeful it will help reduce rubs.

It fits well, like a Rambo usually does. I like the disc system in front. There are just 2 straps underneath and those are thick and elasticized.

The front is mesh-like and breathable. I like that. I also like the thin neck cover…helps keep him clean without being hot.

It should be a very flexible type of sheet/blanket hybrid.

Attaching a couple of pics of my boy modeling it.

Oops I did it again.

I ordered not a 100g, but a 50g Amigo Pony Plus with hood. Let’s see how this works for the donkey. I think it’s compatible with the Horseware Liner System. I’m a little concerned it’s only 600 denier because the weanling is like a golden retriever puppy at the moment and nothing is safe from being chewed on. She has removed the trim off the back of the donkey’s sheet and there’s a good chance the tail flap will be next. Which just means I can justify buying more blankets.

I have an Amigo Hero or something like that 50 gram. I love the weight of it but I’m no super keen on the disc closure.

Also not a 100 gram but my Amigo XL sheet came today. I’m going to try it on him when I go feed. If it fits well I’ll order the matching hood and 100 gram liner.

I think we need to start a support group for compulsive blanket buyers. :joy:

Fingers crossed that the XL fits!

Now you have me worried about the disc closure and the lack of donkey chest. I guess I’ll find out how it works for her.

I’m also trying to ignore @fordtraktor’s post so I don’t convince myself to try one of those… sorry fordtraktor! Hahaha.

It’s not compulsive blanket buying it’s conscientious horse keeping. Right?

I think the disc closure might be better suited to narrower equines. I mean I use the one I have on both of my horses and they seem to survive. Both of mine are big shouldered. The old TB has relatively wide chest and the Friesian QH x has a crazy deep neck. They haven’t gotten any rubs; though my horses generally only wear blankets overnight.

So this Amigo XL is an 81. Horse needs the 84; his butt cheeks were hanging out. But the drop and neck opening seem good. I tugged it back while he was eating his dinner from a ground feeder and it was the least strangling blanket yet. What a pain to return it. Did I order the wrong size or did they ship wrong? Either way it’s going back I guess. I don’t think his butt should be hanging out.

 If you say so.

How annoying you were sent the wrong size! It never ends!

Lol I have my concerns on this sheet for near $300 but I also liked not having to buy a sheet and 100g when he has a partial clip, so I usually need some warmth.

I’ll update in a month or 6 when I am able to get a better sense of it. I am in a northern climate so I doubt I will use it heavily before spring.

I love the disc closure, but mine have narrow fronts and wide shoulders and barrels. My fav fastener.

Mine are all super big chested, so I am hoping the disc in the Autumn helps. My riding horse loves to get shoulder rubs in every blanket ever.

My mare is pregnant with a late March/April Gaudi baby, so she has to go naked this winter unless we have a polar vortex. She looks so pregnant and fluffy already, I have zero fears about her getting cold!
