Favorite casual riding attire? (brand/style/etc)

I’m sure there are probably other topics on this, but I just did a search on 10 pages and couldn’t find a similar thread. If you know of one, a link would be much appreciated!

I am wondering -

What is your favorite CASUAL riding apparel combo?

Breeches/boots/half chaps/socks, etc, etc …

While good old original “Miller’s Harness Company” is long gone, I STILL have several pairs of their wonderful “riding jeans” - although they’re patched & slightly threadbare in places. Have never been able to find riding “jeans” to compare to them re: fit, durability, & reasonable price. Could wear them with paddock boots & no chaps - no chafing or slipping.

Barring those, britches or riding tights & tall boots work fine for me. Chaps once in awhile, but I find them confining somehow.

Oh - forgot to add brands. Ariats have always been my paddock boots of choice. I have several different pairs & love them all. Comfortable, durable, & reasonably priced for the quality. Have some Kerrits tights that are very comfortable, & various breeches brands - nothing expensive.

While I only do a lesson and a practice ride a week, I like the TuffRider ribbed breeches with paddock boots and my Dublin EasyCare half-chaps. I’ve asked Santa for some TredStep half-chaps as I think I am due for an upgrade

I do sometimes ride in my field boots - I have nothing against riding in them, but I can’t drive in them and am too lazy to wear other shoes and then put on my boots later  And THEN have to switch AGAIN! Heheheh.

For shirts, usually polos from Old Navy or Target when it’s warm, and if it’s chilly either a polo and the fleece exercise jacket thingy I got from Target, or an Old navy long-sleeve polo and that jacket. I do also have a neat TuffRider winter coat thingy where the sleeves unzip so you can wear it as a vest - only got it last winter so haven’t used it enough to figure out the layering with it!

Ariat breeches, t-shirt, zip up field boots (tall) when warm weather

Fleece breeches (Equissentials, Irideon or FITS), underarmour, fleece and vest, ariat winter tek gloves, Ariat Brossard winter boots when cold

Royal Highness breeches, field boots (either pull on, zip up, or three buckle), whatever shirt will suit the weather (golf polos for hot, flannel/fleece for cold), Tipperary Sportage lid, leather batter’s gloves (Nike are good).

When it comes to the outer layers I have a closet full of technical shells, waxed cotton coats, fleece and wool from years of outdoor activities. No need to burn money on horse-branded stuff.

Ariat Ventura or Irideon Tights, Ariat Terrain boots, Ariat Half Chaps, clean shirt o’the day and LamiCell Helmet  - Windbreaker over fleece pullover & other layers, depending on chilly temps.

Wranglers, Carhart henley, Georgia steel toe boots and Dakota Helmet

I’m in love with Goode Rider Jean Riders. I wear Ariat Devon-XR waterproof paddock boots and Grand Prix stretch leather half chaps most of the time for boots, but have Ariat Bromonts for colder weather. I wear Neumann’s Tackified Gloves if gloves are needed, and my helmet is a black/charcoal Charles Owen GR8.

I also love my Merrell Ashby half-zip shirts - REI calls them sweaters, but they’re really just a pretty great pullover that can be used as about any layer. I usually wear it as a base layer, and put a fleece or vest or whatever over it. In the summer, I usually wear a wide-strap tank top. I’m going to make an attempt to transition over to something more like sleeveless polos… but that’s several months away, yet!

Oops forgot to specify helmet - I have a Tipp Sportage and a CO JR8. The CO is mainly used in the winter, for warmth

Kerrits boot cut “denim” breeches, Ariat Terrains & half chaps, long sleeve tee or henley, vest and or lightweight jacket, tipperary sportage helmet. Riding gloves but only when the temps are really cold.

Depends on the weather, but I tend to wear full seat breeches–my favorites are Pikeur, I’m afraid, closely followed by the other expensive brands–they wear really well and fit better is my excuse (the Pikeur microfibers I swear are indestructable. I have a pair that are probably 8 years old that look like new–a dog bit me badly enough to break the skin while I was wearing them and there’s one tiny snag…) I usually buy grey or blue breeches.

On my feet Paddocks and 1/2 chaps or dress boots (all Ariats.)

Polo shirt or turtleneck (Lands End usually–many colors–I have to coordinate with my saddle pad after all…)

Vest or fleece jacket–I like Irideons for these, they tend to be good colors and cuts, yet again, blues and greys.

Heavy jacket–my two favorites are both Kyra K’s that are several years old, have worn like iron and wash beautifully. Both navy blue.

Tipperary Helmet, currently in navy blue.

Oh, and always gloves.

Barn work, I’m in my ancient once-black Carhart onesie and my polartec hat with Deputy Dawg earflaps.

But yes, I guess I dress better to ride than I do to go to work…

Usually a dry-fit shirt (the store brand at Academy are great) or a polo- I layer if it is colder, Kerritt’s riding tights-regular or the warm fleece, IRH Extreme Elite helmet-best fit I’ve had in years, either my Dublin Pinnacle boots (super cute and really comfortable) or my pull on Dublin jodphurs with my Prochaps half chaps.

I need a good cold weather jacket that is not too restricting. It is on my list to buy this year.

The Stinky Pony has been rocking a Taylored Tack bridle- the browband is too much fun. The saddle pads compliment it. Plus, he has his Vogue GPS saddle for both our riding pleasure.

I am a (thrifty) barn diva

From the bottom up:

Field Boots: Used Ariats that are indestructible. I’ve worn them 2+ hours every day for three years (and they were quite used when I purchased them). They finally need the sole replaces
Breeches: Kerrits or knee-patch Irideon’s in the summer and full seat Irideon’s or Ariats in the winter.
Fossil Belt: Black. Always
Polo: I usually pick flattering but fun colors like robins egg blue, pink, orange, etc.
Polo brand Cable-knit Sweater: They are gorgeous, fit perfectly, and I can find them for ~$20 at a second-hand store.
Ariat Gloves: crochet in the summer and insulated in the winter. Black. Always
Faux pearl or diamond earrings: I get them oversize for $2 from Forever21 and they make me feel like a diva (and less like a man) when wearing my helmet
Tipp Helmet: Its comfortable and oh so ugly. I wish santa would bring me a CO GR8.

I don’t wear a jacket when riding unless it is below 40 which I don’t have to worry about until January/February.

I’m in love with Goode Rider Jean Riders. [/QUOTE]

I second the Goode Rider Jeans!!! I splurged big time for a pair about a year ago and they are my ‘go to’ attire for riding. Comfy, comfy, comfy and they look GREAT! They are holding up wondefully, too. Worth every penny!

For summer riding- tee shirt, Tropical Riders Prix tech tights with extended patch, Ariat lace paddock boots and custom half chaps. For spring or fall, (depending on temp) either riding tights as above or on course breeches with long sleeve polo, paddocks and half chaps. Winter: Tropical Riders fleece lined full seats, and appropriate layers for colder weather on top. Usually, a fleece or thermal shell /undershirt, a long sleeve Cuddleduds underwear, a turtle neck, a sweat shirt, sweater or fleece long sleeve top, and a down vest.

  • kerrits or Irideon tights. Black
  • polo or v-neck tshirt( round necks feel like I’m choking)
  • Ariat half chaps and paddock boots
  • CO Gr8 helmet
  • gloves
  • if it’s cold I wear a Goode rider vest or jacket. Their clothes are amazingly comfy and fit great.

I wear:
regular jeans (usually levi’s)
ariat paddocks or ariat ‘barnyard’ pull ons with any of 3 pairs of half chaps (ariat, no name, just chaps) OR ariat tall boots
shirt appropriate for the weather (T, polo, long sleeve, etc) with a sweatshirt/fleece/jacket on top as needed
my safety vest (intec )
helmet, troxel, irh, or co. Mostly the co its by far my favorite
gloves, ssg. Whichever ones are weather appropriate
ariat headband if its cold
Scarf if its cold and I’m not wearing a turtleneck

I rarely school in breeches/good pull on boots, especially when its cold.

Since I don’t show, all my riding is casual
I really like my tall boots. Ovation gold circuit pro or something similar to that name. I just bought half chaps, just to extend the life of my tall boots so I don’t have to break in others for a long time! Paddock boots are Ariat round toes, because they were on sale.
Polo shirts or wide strap tanks in the summer. Walmart is great for those tanks. Long sleeve polos for fall, or thin cable knit sweaters, or both when it gets colder. Most of those are from old navy, or nicer shops if I’ve owned them a while and they’ve been demoted to barn wear. I found a cute quilted jacket from target last week that I really like.
Riding breeches are (… Sitting here in a café trying to remember the brand im wearing without pulling down my waistband for a peek) maybe riding sport? Just got another pair of full seats but usually go for knee patches. I also like the Devon aire brand, around 50 price tag, and have a few tuff riders ribbed that are comfy. I think my cotton naturals are the ones that I don’t like… I have two of the same brand that just immediately got holes in the crotch or top of knee patches. Not cool.
Hair in hairnet every ride, irh xr9 helmet, black gloves (Ariat or tredstep), every ride, too.
Target knee socks for a few bucks per pair.

Not to hijack… i thought about getting some of those winter breeches…the fleece lined ones. Can anyone tell me if they really keep you warm>

I have the fullseat Irideon Windpros- I LOFF them. They are fleece on the outside and wind/ water resistent fabric on the outside. They definitely keep me warm and I really appriciate that they aren’t fleece on the outside so they don’t attract every stray piece of hay and horse hair in the area
