Favorite cold weather hunt appropriate breeches

I am new to fox hunting this fall. I get cold EASY so am wanting a windproof, hopefully fleece lined breech. Tuff Rider used to make them but I am only seeing them in black or chocolate. I love a full seat but will give that up for warmth. Considering thermals under regular breeches also.

Toasties by Tropical Rider. You can order directly from them. Also you can have belt loops put on and customize the sizing.

Underarmor cold gear under any breeches works for me. If it’s really cold (15 degrees or less) I’ll put a silk liner on under them. Very little bulk for a lot of warmth.

I had eyeballed those but every pair on that link you posted were “sold out for the season”.

I forgot about Underarmor. Thanks!

Give Tropical Rider a call and see when the new season’s Toasties will be out. I have 4 pair…2 black for schooling and 2 tan for fox hunting in the winter (and spring and sometimes Fall!) I als wear light wt long underwear under them when it gets below 20 degrees. they are really comfortable. I have the deerskin knee patch.

Or click into their end of season clearance section, where there are tons of Toasties in assorted sizes for 40-60% off. A pain to look through all the drop downs, but man are there some bargains.

Love the Tropical Rider Toasties in full seat. I also have the Toasties Elements which have a windproofing to the fabric. They should be starting to sell them again in the next month or so for the fall/winter season. Maybe call or email to check. I ride all winter and can’t stand to be cold so I have 4 pairs of the regular toasties and one pair of the elements.

I’ve seen the fleece-lined Kerritts (I know, not really breeches but they look it under a coat) on TOTD several times. They’re warm and windproof and even fairly waterproof, and have been pretty durable when it comes to running through thorn bushes. I’m a devout knee-patch person, so haven’t checked if they’re available in full seat, too.

The two things that’ve made me really happy with them, besides surprisingly good performance, are the price (hate to pay $$$ for something I’m going to shred in a few seasons) and that they are a lot less bulky and are more flexible than wearing breeches + under armor.

ETA: I have these: http://www.kerrits.com/Equestrian-Apparel/pc/Power-Stretch-Winter-Tight-6p6290.htm They really do fit like sweatpants (which I hate but a belt helps), but they’re pretty warm down to around a wet and windy 25F and the little bit you can see between coat and boots looks like breeches. Mine are in their third winter, and the only signs of wear are the places I’ve had to mend rips from ‘off roading’ through thorn trees.

These look more flattering, but I haven’t tried them: http://www.kerrits.com/Equestrian-Apparel/pc/Pro-Fleece-Cross-Over-Breech-6p6703.htm

I contacted Tropical Rider and as you said, they just aren’t for sale yet. As for the Kerrits, I like the looks of the Sit Tight and Warm but alas, they don’t come in beige/tan. I will contact them also.

I’m another Under Armor fan. I put a pair under normal breeches and I’m good to go. My favorite breeches are either Equine Coutures or Tailored Sportsman’s, but only the Trophy Hunters. I like the material of both of those the best for formal things (my every day breeches are TuffRider low rise ribbed ones…cheapies!). They’re also reasonably wind proof.

How odd. I’d swear the Tight and Warm are what I have, in tan, but they’re a couple years old now.

Possibly they have more colors when the fall actually begins! I am awaiting a message from them.

I have Kerrits tights that are super warm, but they might not pass muster with some hunts as appropriate.
I got a pair of smartwool tights a couple of years ago and I find them to be very warm under regular breeches. And you get the bonus of an extra layer for your feet.

Romfh has ones in a show-appropriate tan color. http://www.romfh.com/en/romfh_product_details.htm?prd=517997402

I have a pair of the full seat Toasties and they live up to the name.

OP- which hunt will you be going out with- FL or MVH???

MVH. I take jumping/dressage lessons from Carlie Beisel at Settlers Acres and she invited me. I thought this would be a perfect winter activity as our focus is eventing. I am waiting for the Toasties to start selling and am looking at these: http://www.kerrits.com/Equestrian-Apparel/pc/Pro-Fleece-Cross-Over-Breech-25p6703.htm

I splurged and bought pikeur winter ones - full seat, windproof & fleecy lined. Luckily at a really good price, but still $$$$. They would be my favourite ever as they are really comfortable, super warm and the windproofness is amazing (much better than jods and icebreaker leggings). However, pikeur has changed their sizing since I last bought a pair and they are wayyy bigger in the waist than my others with the same marked size. Grrr. Not worth posting them back, I just use a belt. They are still wonderful on cold days.

Well that is my hunt too, so excited for you and looking forward to meeting you!! We have a terrific group of members and beautiful fixtures!

Carlie is.the.best!! Were you by chance out roading last Saturday riding a chestnut of Jakes??

I just re-read your post and saw that you are new.

The biggest thing that will keep you warm are your TOES. Toes warmers + smartwool socks! Also pick up a black earband. And something stiff for your flask!
