What are some of your favorite snacks to bring to shows? Healthy or sugary:winkgrin:
Black grapes. Put them in a tupperware and into the cooler.
Fruit and yogurt. I mix in sweetened and plain yogurt because I don’t like it super-sweet. I also use a food processor to puree the fruit because I am lazy! (I use to actually make my own yogurt, but I no longer take the time). I usually don’t want anything heavy before I ride.
I also take baby carrots to share with the horses, and peanut butter filled pretzels and/or cashews or mixed nuts. If I haven’t had time for breakfast I slap together a pbj to eat on the road.
Bananas, grapes, cheese crackers like Nips or Cheezits, PB sandwich, apples, baby carrots, granola bars and gummy bears. Don’t forget - lots of water and Diet Coke.
For some reason I like to bake for horse shows – banana bread is a good one, doubles as breakfast or a snack, and it is easy. Also anything grab and go like cookies, brownies or layer bars. For healthy snacks I just steal some of the apples I always have on hand for my horse!
Hummus with carrots and chips - with loads of salt during the summer heat. (The horses end up getting most of the carrots )
When I was a working student and groomed at shows I’d pack chicken fingers and kind bars. I’d go buy a box before, and put them in individual plastic bags to snack on because they were still good cold. Even now, I’ll usually buy a Guthries (Southern restaurant) box. I needed things I could snack on while leading a horse or on the move. Also, Welch’s fruit snacks which also provide a sweet treat for my horses who love them!
I’m the worst when it comes to eating healthy and switch from mountain dew to gatoriade throughout the day. (As a result, suffer from horse-show hangovers regularly. It’s a thing!)
I’ll add hard boiled eggs, I need protein in the mornings and easy to keep cold. And I refuse to eat most of what is set out for those free motel breakfasts and would never eat one of those prepeeled ones, must be totally loaded with preservatives.
Salami and cheese pita pockets, those don’t spoil easily. And go really good with a traveling serving of some favorite wine ;).
PB&J sandwich no need to keep it cold
I would say our crew generally has a mix of healthy and not so healthy!
There is generally a box or two of cookies or donuts, definitely a bag (or 4!) of potato chips, and then in the cooler we always have humus and some sort of fruit. Grapes have been the recent favorite as they are easy to eat on the go.
We are all also cheese-aholics so there are always several varieties and forms of cheese available.
So looking at my list, we mostly have not so healthy stuff to snack on!
Cheetos and a case of RedBull. That’s all.

I like peanut m&m’s. I will throw them in the cooler (on top) if it is hot, although they are better a little melty:).
Ginger snaps.
Trying to remember what’s usually in my food bag when I groom… apples, the traveling jar of peanut butter, a bag of bagels, granola bars, an honestly incomprehensible numbers of wheat thins? A bagel + peanut butter is kind of the stand by for when I have a few minutes to grab a meal; keeps me going for a while. Sometimes I’ll throw in some trail mix or a box of grocery store muffins to share.

These are good too.
Just thought of this - went to a horse trial couple weeks ago. We had:
black grapes
m and m’s
peanut butter crackers
bananas
Snack? I mean, I take this whole food thing seriously and just upped the ante by bringing an electric skillet. I made BLTs at the last show and planned on doing grilled cheese, and just pressing my regular lunchmeat sandwiches to grill them and melt the cheese. The horse show world is now my culinary oyster.
Oh and bourbon. Can’t forget that.

I would really like to park next to you at the next event.
Dark chocolate covered almonds, Kind bars and MamaChia fruit pouches
Cheese-its, baby carrots, granola bars, PB&J, any type of fruit, and wine.
And yes wine IS considered a snack.
