Favorite mid-priced leather halter

Hey,

My new Morgan mare is coming soon. More details when she arrives. While I wait, I am looking for a mid-priced nice leather halter for a more feminine head. She is a flaxen sorrel with a star. My gelding has one from Smartpak that has been fine, but can’t remember which one. Anyway, I do not want to purchase Indian junk or break the bank. Suggestions are appreciated.

Happy riding,
Jessie
Soon to be a two Morgans and two mutts family

What is mid-priced to you?

I love my Quillin halters–they’re just beautifully crafted.

I also have Perri’s 3/4" halters for turnout for a few of my crew. Very nice and cost a little less than the Quillin’s–purchased from VTO during one of their sales.

Quillin

Quillins are awesome!

Chicks has a great halter for about $25 (maybe it’s closer to $30 these days unless on sale) but it comes with an engraved name plate. They call it their sale halter. Love it.

We stock a halter from a company called Beiler’s, out of PA I think. Lovely halters and still under $60. I think it may be an Amish company.

Mid price- $60-90.00

Perri’s has a nice halter for $60 or so at Dover.

Ocala tack shack. You can get one with all the bells and whistles for that price. I love mine and have a set for my barn.

I just purchased a Gatsby turn out halter. $38 total with shipping. Nice halter, soft leather, fits well

I’ll second Ocala Tack Shack

I used to say Ocala Tack Shack, but Albright’s is nicer. I would peg either of those above Quillin (I’ve had all three).

Hopefully this link works - if you click through, you can see a side-by-side comparison of Tack Shack vs Albright’s.

(PS - I also have Morgans and use these halters on them)

I’m fond of Perri’s.

I have had my Morgan mare for 8 years and she’s had the Perri’s halter with the rolled noseband for all that time. She is on her second one; she’s pulled back (from trailers, crossties, getting stuck, etc.) a few times and only once has one broken.

My Gatsby halter did not hold up well. After about 9 months of use, I have to replace it. Admittedly my gelding is hard on things, but still.

Fennells - they sell a lot to the ASB/Hackney crowd so the sizing should be appropriate for a Morgan. I love their leatherwork!

I absolutely love my Danzig Brothers halters. They run ~$60 and you can get one in a custom size, with nameplate, in under 2 weeks at no extra charge. The most recent one I purchased lives outdoors (on a hook) in all sorts of weather and still looks brand new 6 months later. They are soft and sturdy with stunning craftsmanship.

Well, I just looked online and they are on sale for $25 & less. I really can’t complain about a halter at that price point!
