Favorite Racehorse Names

I love this one https://www.arion.co.nz/StallionsRos…d=24381&Page=0

Makes his barn name a no brainer.

It seems like everyone is laughing about “Howard” recently.

I think my all time favorite name was Ruffian.

We had a very precocious filly we named “Go”. I liked that.

Golden Trip. One day I will have a show horse with that name…might be the racehorse when I wrestle him from my daughter.

Soaring Softly was a lovely name.

Badlybentnotbroke. Not one of mine, nor a horse I ever knew. But I saw that name in an old pedigree at some point, and it has stuck with me for decades. There must be a story behind it.

Black Tie Affair comes to mind.
Upset was very aptly named.

NancyM; That is rather unforgettable. It makes one wonder if the horse was a wild one to back, or if it had crooked legs.

How about PistNBroke

Also noticed a Always B Miki yearling someone called Texas Miki

I always thought Twilight Tear was a lovely name for a mare.

Well, knowing the breeder, it doesn’t refer to a broken motor part

Bodacious Tatas. Amazing that it was approved, and of course she ended up being a decent mare, G2 winner. I’m sure the Jockey Club was mortified.

The Claiborne/Adele Dilschneider names. One word names that relate to the dam name.

Wild Applause- dam of Yell, Roar, Praise, Hurrah, Viva etc.

Toll- dam of Tax, Tariff, Inflate, Cost, etc.

Preach- dam of Pulpit, Choir, Convent, Friar, Orate, Pontiff, Sermonette, Worshipper, etc.

Narrate- dam of Preach, Card, Comment, Lecture, Yarn, Signal, Speak, Tale, etc.

Yarn- dam of Fabulist, Myth, etc.

First one I thought of; just love that name (and the Darby Dan/Phillips people).

Not a racehorse, but the horse facility at US Davis used to stand a QH named Beats Workin. I thought that was a great name for a breeding stallion.

Flat Fleet Feet. I always suspected that the was bought by a consortium of race callers and retired…

And along those lines…

A favorite name just because of the family legend it created…

My mom was at the races with me many, many years ago and had been having a fun afternoon perusing the program, picking her horses based on scientific handicapping (it has a white heart on its forehead), getting a few dollars here and there and sipping a beer… when she suddenly snorted as she was reading the program for the upcoming races. “How awful!” she said. “this poor horse has such a stupid name - I may have to bet on him just because of it! Who would name a horse NINNY-POON-DAMMER!!!”

I looked at the program and saw no such horse. Puzzled, I asked her what PP number and what race… and I found this poor equine.

Ninepoundhammer.

One day, I want to race a TB named Ninny Poondammer.

😂😂😂 If it was a STB I’d think it was a relative of Freaky Feet Pete.

One name I always liked was a STB mare named Dirt Track Momma. Pretty gritty mare.
