Favorite Racehorse Names

If her dam’s name was Oh My Heart, it would have been an especially amusing medical name. Do you know sire and dam?

There’s one over here (Aus) with a name I love, Black Heart Bart. He’s now 9 years old - I think someone has looked after and loved him! I’m only an armchair racehorse/racing fan but was pretty impressed that this ‘old’ boy at 100:1 surprised everyone last Saturday!

Well, bless Bart’s Black Heart.

Is there a link to the race, that you know of?

I’ve never tried to add a link before, but I’ll give it a go!

Hope it works, there’s a story and attached video!

I love Effinex too! So clever!

I too am a one word name fan. Beholder (love this name!), Lightstream and Found are some favorite examples that come to mind.

We have a colt we named Complexifier - he’s by Overanalyze and out of a Freud mare. So, we thought it fitting.

It worked beautifully, thank you!

That reminded me of Boobsplasher. Not sure if that was a favorite name or least favorite name. Ended up meeting her when an acquaintance bought her as a broodmare.

I liked: Thesunshinesbright and Bigloadtocarry.

Not a horse name but I always giggled when I saw Morning Wood Stable listed as owner. Not so much Looooch (or however he spells it) Racing. Ron Paolucci strikes me as the kind of guy who hated leaving his college frat days behind and so he kept his stupid nickname.

Upset was a well chosen name

My favorite belongs to my girl, Cat on the Moon. There’s a poem by Yeats called “The Cat and the Moon”, and a cat named Black Minnaloushe (her sire) is the main character, so there’s a literary backstory.

For the non-poetically-inclined, I love it because it’s weird, and other boarders at the barn wonder what I was smoking when she was named!

My 8 year old self loved the name Silver Charm

Honest Lady was one of my favorite names, I was young and am a casual race fan but she did seem like a nice honest mare who lived up to her name

Of course my favorite is a Standardbred stallion named Always a Virgin, and he sired the fastest Standardbred ever = Always B Miki

You would be interested to know Always B Miki has a son called Texas Miki that is going through a sale this fall

I noticed Texas Miki, Always B Miki had his first crop sell this week, 59 were in the Lexington Selected Sale .

i thought I saw that name on one of the sale ads…play on words since a texas mickey is a 166 oz bottle of booze

I did not know that! Always learning from Coth

Prince John x Peroxide Blonde = Stagedoor Johnny.

Excellent!

Good looking horse, too. Won the Belmont, Saranac, Dwyer. Voted 1968 Champion 3 year old in some polls. Lived to be 31.
