I worked for a familly that owned Opal for a while, that sounds just like her, what a star she was.
60’s flash back
Stocking Stuffer horse of the decade
Miles River Moonglow, Small Pony in the 60’s and 70’s even when the height was 11.2 before they changed it.
Shenandoah Opal, Large Pony
Chardonnay, Large Pony I liked him cause he looked just like a tiny TB
The Liseter Ponies that Marianne Stiert(spelling???) rode for Mrs Dupont.
The many Farnley ponies.
Prim N Proper, Neat N Tidy, Needles N Pins
The Fox Hollow Singing Star Ponies
Polaris Moonbeam was around then also. Mrs. DuPont’s Liseter ponies weere fabulous. What was the pony book (hardcover) that had oodles of pony pictures - mostly Liseter and Farnley ponies?
You’re probably thinking of The Pony Book by Amy Rossi with Buttons 'N Bows on the cover. Liseter Gold Coin was another fabulous pony.
Bill Steinkraus and Sinjon. Bill owned “Johnny” until the day he died and is buried out there at Great Island, CT. Bill is one completely class act - charming, friendly, a great horseman, and never thought he was anything special. I’ll never forget his friendship or the time at HITS when he invited me to the exhibiter’s party. A great great man.
In the late 60’s relocated from CA to Washington, DC - my sister signed on to Jr. Equitation School - she got the lessons, I was too young but I cannot tell you how often I read, studied, read more of that Jr. Equitation School for Young Rider. I wanted so much to grow up to be another Kathy Kushner !
and of course that galloping redhead - Rodney Jenkins - loved him, bought my last horse after studying Selecting Hunters and Jumpers Video.
I don’t know. Isn’t 1800 trips at one Devon rather like Wilt Chamberlain and his conquests?
When you mentioned Leonka and Claudia, I also remember Vickie Becker, both rode with RY. Vickie had a couple of really nice junior horses but their names I can’t remember(I have an old boomer brain). When you speak of Nancy Baroody’s ponies never forget Midget. She also had Neat’n Tidy(a roan). She confided in me that she really didn’t care for that pony.too hard to make look good but loved a chunky chestnut named Friar Tuck that sold rather quickly. I loved her sister Lila, an opinionated recluse who distained the hunters as “too political” but loved jumpers and don’t ever forget their Mom, she was something!!
Oh, I remember Slipcover. For some reason I think maybe someone I knew had her (???) I have a terrible memory. Remind me more about the pony…
Beautiful bay with a sweet face. Won almost every model and jumping class, usually got in the top three in the hack (but pinned her ears). I owned and showed her her green year (Reserve High Score Award Champ) and first regular year, (High Score Award Champion, Mary Drury Award) then we leased her to Sally Hull of Florida, and then Gretchen Ewalt. She won a ton with both. She had just a couple of foals before she died.

Stroller (the pony) and who was the rider from Great Britain?
Thank you, BAC. Look out for Lilly. She is a great kid.
Wasn’t Chance Step Pam’s sister’s horse? He was cool too!
Touch the Sun was gorgeous!
Speaking of Roger Young’s old barn, I rode there and taught there for ages! I was seldom one of his stars but knew the whole gang including vicky Becker and The Muffin Man, Linda Reed and S… can’t remember the name but he waa a big hammer-headed bay that looked and went just like Not Always, Claudia w/ Leonka, Donna Kaufman and Wait-A-Bit, Kitty Cox and Peter Gunn, Marcia Pierson and her cute bay (name escapes me) Suzie Farrelly and Motor Mouth, Annie Nitze and Protocol, Susie Schoellkopf and The Robin, Dale Roenke and Silk ???(big seal brown horse) Carol Reed and Sunkist, Jim Robeson and True Grit, Biv Balderston and Coventry Patmore, George Paterson and Tristan, Stuieee Paterson and Butch Cassidy, Jean Bidlack and Devon Chance and I’m sure I am missing a few! We had a great gang back then! It was a blast growing up with horses back then!
Yes, I forgot Wendy Price and Brevon, Marilyn Cole and her lovely chestnut, Chris Lonergan and her brown horse…
Thank you Lessonlady…Muffin Man is the one. I thought about it most of the night and just couldn’t get the name!
Now you add new mysteryand brain ache. I’m thinking Marilyn had Norbu but I know that’s wrong. She had a lovely chestnut mare. Iremember when Chris got her horse but no name comes to mind.
Marilyn lived near me. Her father built her a lovely little farmette for her horses. I think of her everytime I go by that place.
Stroller (the pony) and who was the rider from Great Britain?
Marion Coates (sp?)
It just came to me as I watch it snow…Marilyn had Pretty Please!
Hey elizabeth1 !! Marni Markowicz had Norbu…Marilyn had Pippin! Marni was not really part of the gang very often though. Her parents were always with her when she came to town. Some of the names are coming back to me! I will post them as I remember.
I don’t remember Pretty Please! Hmmm… Chris’ horse’s nickname was Itchy but I can’t remember his show name.
