Federal Fraud Case

Bump up for Nan-Ho

Just read the facts Mam!:yes: :yes: :yes: :yes: :yes:

Curious?

TWF ~ How is Grande Impression doing? Haven’t heard in quite a while.

Isn’t Grande Impression the horse that the FBI found and seized??? And if I recall correctly, isn’t this the one that Keg committed perjury in court on??

Been Busy on the Rediculous Insurance Issue

If we don’t beat this you will all find another charge on your entry forms for an additional Insurance Fee.

I hope everyone is still out here defending the horses who were abused and killed for personal greed.:yes:

Don’t forget to comment on the proposed Rule Changes. Take the time to reply to each one you never know which one will make it through the system.

Yep!

Yes LBB you are correct.

Yes LBB that is the show mare by Grande Saber the FBI was able to locate thanks to some very good person turning in the location of the mare.:yes:

TWF -
Grande Impression looks Amazing!!! No doubt she’s enjoying her light schooling schedule and being a laid back Diva this summer! :winkgrin: And that pasture… WOW!!! My horses are on great pasture, but I hope she never tells them what her pasture is like! I’d never hear the end of it! :wink:

She’s such a beautiful mare. She’s really grown up nicely, too!! I have only seen pictures of her the past few years… I last saw her in 2001 at the Warrenton Horse Show for the IHF Challenge Series. She was beautiful then, but now she is breathtaking!!!

Next time I’ll have to bring more treats, then maybe she’ll tell me her ā€œbeauty secretsā€ so I can tell my girls! :smiley:

TWF - you have a PM. :wink:

Yes, she’s a Diva

She sure is happy! Of course she will share her beauty secrets…she loves being a diva. Her first big ribbon was winning the first Sallie Sexton Memorial Trophy at Devon as a yearling! Grande Impression will be the first to tell you she comes from a family of beauties :yes: Did you see her 1/2 sister this year?

Grande Diva …AKA Grand Affair 2006 Upperville Mare Champion is another Grande Saber girl. Diva ,the real diva of the horse world, made this year her fourth Mare Championship at Upperville. Did you know she retired the Posh Trophy for her win this year? Kinda like the girls…Posh…:cool: Diva’s full sisters Design, Divina and Desire are all grinning about the win! :smiley: :smiley: :smiley: Way to go sis!

TWF ~ You certainly have had some of the most gorgeous girls ever to trot in a ring. They are truly ā€œGrandeā€ in more ways than one!! The boys are awfully handsome as well! :yes:

LBB ~ Let me know when you want to visit Grande Impression again…sorry I could not have been there the first time…would like to meet you in person. Oh, and don’t forget to bring treats!!! :smiley:

The latest…

After checking on this thread I started I saw nothing had been posted in almost 2 months. Even tho it was on page 25 there had been hundreds and hundreds of views since the last post…5 views this morning. It obviously holds some interest within the horse community so I want to say if anyone has been a victim of a horse related crime please feel free to contact me and I will be happy to see if I can help.

Since my last post much has transpired, some of which I will address today.

Last month I was in Lexington KY on a horse related issue and had the privilege of being invited for a private tour of Stonestreet Farms, owned by Jess Jackson. In a few of my earlier posts I had mentioned that Jess Jackson was the individual who pushed for the new law in KY regarding dual agency to address the whole issue of horse fraud. If you are unfamiliar with this new law please contact me and I will send a copy to you. Jess also amended an existing law in CA to read the same as KY. So there is now protection for both buyer and seller in these two states. I strongly urge you to research the new law in order to protect yourself in all future buying and selling. There is currently interest in the state of FL to follow the trend. If this is something you feel your state needs and would like more information I will be glad to send you contact information for the lawyer, Kevin McGee, who drew up the bills in both states. While I feel most of the opposition within the industry will be from people who are profiting greatly from these horse deals, the bottom line is…fraud is fraud, and it is a criminal offense.

The tour and meeting with Kevin was wonderful. He flew in from CA the night before and flew back after. A fantastic person and it was a pleasure to spend a few hours at Stonestreet. The farm could not have been more accommodating to myself and two friends who flew in to KY as well. To say the farm was beautiful would be an understatement as I had never seen anything quite so breathtaking.

Kevin and Jess are also the individuals who have started HOPA (Horse Owners Protection Association). This is a non-profit association acting as a clearinghouse, helping people with horse related issues and working to get laws passed to protect the horse owner. We talked quite a bit about the direction HOPA will be taking, etc. As things progress I will keep everyone up to date.

Finally, the Appeal that was filed in reference to changing Judge Williams strict Probation Guidelines was denied by the Federal Appellate Courts. So the original Guidelines set down will apply and be enforced.

More to follow soon…and as always many thanks to all in the horse community who want to see the betterment of the industry and continue to provide their support! We CAN make a difference!!! :yes:

My question is how do we change the system so the naive can be more protected? This is a sport with a huge amount of $$$$ involved and the scammers will always be out looking for those who are unknowing and can easily robbed. I remember when I showed up at my first show on my $200 pony. My dad realized we weren’t doing things the right way and I needed a decent animal and a trainer to proceed. He knew nothing about the sport and the buzzards were circling. WE made some mistakes and learned some hard lessons but some protection needs to be offered. I still have very old buds who’s names would make your jaw drop involved in the industry. It is a gritty business. Some do it so admirably and some are so scum. Knowing what I know now I just have the feeling there are new Josh and Kegs out there. I really hope not but I’m leery.

Yep, I met another one of their ā€œfriendsā€ this weekend!!! :no: :lol: :no:

Great question elizabeth1…and I do have a few ideas. The first thing that comes to mind is to comment on the Rule Change Proposals that have been presented to the USEF. These will be voted on at the annual convention Jan 2007. Just click on the link, then any of the proposals that refer to ā€œfelonsā€ and post your comment. If you are not a member then you can always send an email or letter. I can not express how important this can be. After being in Lexington last week I can assure you the USEF is starting to listen!!

Speaking of Rule Changes… when are they going to be voted on? When would we know the results??? I can’t remember!

The link to the USEF rule changes…

says comments need to be made before January 2006. Yes, 2006.
I have wanted to comment in the past but haven’t because it says 2006.

Anyone know if that’s correct, or ???

Thanks.

Eagle eyes…

I saw that as well…checked…and it is a typo. The rule change proposals were not submitted to the USEF until July 2006. So please comment to your hearts content!!! :smiley: Oh, make sure to comment on each and every one listed. Thanks Mardi!!

Great Question elizabeth1!

Welcome to this issue…I’ve been working on the Federal Fraud case for over 8 years…it has been a long road with the Justice Department taking the big lead by banning the boys from the business. Read the ruling for the INTENT of the Federal Court.

Unfortunately, other equine criminals that may hold the very same credientials at Josh Cardine and Keg Berlin

ā€œMEMBERS IN GOOD STANDINGā€

If this sickens you …go to http://www.usef.org/content/rules/ruleChanges/prc2006.php?chapter=GR

Fortunately, we have a voice. Change is up to the membership… We are not alone. There are a lot of members beyond the ones here on the BB. This is an industry wide issue. Please send the word to the following members of other disciplines. We need them to be aware of the issues and the rule changes proposed.

I know for a fact that the USEF board is looking very critically into this issue…REALLY!!!
SO NOW is the time to do YOUR part in keeping criminals out of the USEF.
Membership is a privilege not a right…

The USEF Sportsmanship Charter from the USEF Site:
THE SPORTSMAN’S CHARTER

That sport is something done for the fun of doing it and that it ceases to be sport when it becomes a business only, something done for what there is in it;

That amateurism is something of the heart and spirit - not a matter of exact technical qualifications;

That good manners of sport are fundamentally important;

That the code must be strictly upheld;

That the whole structure of sport is not only preserved from the absurdity of undue importance, but is justified by a kind of romance which animates it, and by the positive virtues of courage, patience, good temper, and unselfishness which are demanded by the code;

That the exploitation of sport for profit alone kills the spirit and retains only the husk and semblance of the thing;

That the qualities of frankness, courage, and sincerity which mark the good sportsman in private life shall mark the discussions of his interests at a competition.
TWF - Wow, what a great post!!! Only problem is that I could not get the link to work.

Love that Sportsman’s Charter. I only hope when things are being reviewed that the officials have that posted right in front of them!

I can’t get the link to work either. Please check it. Thanks.
