Keg Berlin
July 20, 2011
âKeg Berlinâ is up for reinstatement by the USEF in September. Now residing at âShibui Niâ in Suffolk and operating as âMeadowbrook Studâ, Keg âinheritedâ the property after the childless elderly owners, Dr. and Mrs. Turner, passed away. Prior to their passing, Keg had contracted with my company and others to renovate the homeâs interior, expand the kitchen and provide new furnishings. He wanted to make the farm suitable and presentable for âbigâ horse shows and equestrian events. As we came close to ending the project, he elected to renege on the contracts and not pay certain contractors the funds that were rightfully due to them. A warrant in debt has been issued against Keg in Suffolk Circuit Court. He owes almost $12,000 to hardworking people who worked on the homeâs renovation. After spending time in a federal prison and having to come to terms with the severity of his crimes as a horse thief, you would think he would at least attempt to be an honorable person. Apparently he just doesnât have it in him. Once a thief, always a thief. I hope the U.S.E.F. will consider his obvious lack of âcharacterâ before reinstating him in September. Nothingâs changed and he certainly has shown no remorse.

MHM & SMS âŠYou are a good! I have friends at the FBI if yo ever want to change careers!
At the sentencing hearing held June 24, 2004, for Josh and Keg; Keg swore to the judge that he did not have any other horses. I was never convinced he sold the mare he called âThe Oneâ. Her dam was brought to my farm to be bred in 1997. Once the mare was in foal, Keg came to my farm when I wasnât there, he left two no good checks, he took the mare and I was never paid. The mare as a yearling won the First Sallie Sexton Memorial Trophy at the Devon Horse Show in 1998. He avoided all legal attempts to make him pay his debt. The long and short of it is that Grande Impression was located, in March 2005, seized and sold by the court. As of September 28, 2005,I own the nice mare Grande Impression by order of Senior Federal Judge Richard L. Williams.
Keg Berlin is currently serving time in Federal prison. As one of his victims, I have notification regarding his disposition.
He has a long string of trusting pony moms and children⊠Iâve met some of the kidsâŠnow young adultsâŠthat were cheatedâŠthey have no memories of ponies and ribbons ⊠Many kids never saw their ponies again. Some horses simply vanished.
If you know of ANY horse connected with Keg and JoshâŠcontact me and I will be glad to call my friends at the FBI.
Hey Debbie have you heard anything from Kentucky? I hope the event will make an impact on the way the USEF will process member concernsâŠspecifically FRAUD.
I have read through many pages of the post and (believe that I) understand that quite a few of the members here have attended trials and are familiar with the events, details, etc. Sheer curiosity, are these men in any way remorseful or have they expressed any regret for doing what they did to all those people and animals? Any indication that they were sorry enough not to continue their illegal and immoral practices post-incarceration? (I am aware from this post that they are forbidden by the judge from selling/teaching for a period of time). I wasnât directly affected by their practices, but know a mom/daughter/pony that were.
Thanks for the update. I am sorry they are trying to screw you. We will help in any way we can! Hopefully RNB will chime in soon.
It just goes to show that leopards donât change their spots! Once a crook, always a crookâŠ
Would you like a J&K Club t-shirt?
AND HE IS UP FOR REINSTATEMENT??? Youâve got to be kidding me.Arenât there enough active crooks in the horse world - do mwe really need this reinstatemnt?
Youâve got to be kidding meâŠ
Does anyone else find that Berlin contracting to have repairs done to the estate he had not yet inherited is suspicious in that then Dr. and Mrs. Turner passed away?
Color me suspicious:
-
Berlin contracts for repairs on property he was to inherit.
-
Both of the elderly owners passed away.
Wonder how close in time the 2 events occured? Make that 3 events as there were 2 deaths. One would think maybe one of the old folks would die and that the other would be around for a while at least. Or that heâd have had repairs done after the couple had passed away, since presumably they could have changed their wills to exclude him.
Betcha there was not an autopsy performed on either of the âelderly couple.â
Time to fire up the letters! As members of the USEF which is the National Governing BodyâŠwe have the right to protest to the Federation. The character of those asking for reinstatement is an issue to be raised⊠Josh and Keg were suspended due to their own actions and the voice of the members concerned for about their activities. The system worked beforeâŠwith this additional activityâŠthey may not have a chance if the Federation follows the Sportsmanâs motto and the NY Supreme Courtâs ruling in the Barney Ward challenge to our NGB!!

Yes, the original USEF suspension says 5 years from the date of suspension. Unless USEF issues a lifetime ban ( not likely) they do get to reapply.Nothing wrong with that. Anyone who is suspended for a long time is given a date that they can reapply.
That doesnât mean that USEF will allow reinstatement.
But if you claim they shouldnât get reinstated based on claims for contract home inprovement work then thatâs a stretch, a really big stretch. Nothing to do with the equine industry.
And home improvement contractors donât have that great a record overall. Nobody knows why he didnât pay.Maybe the contractor didnât fullfill his end of the contract??
If they have complied with the terms of the USEF suspension then they will get reinstated. IF they apply for reinstatement then by all means write to USEF.
But even if they donât get USEF reinstatement it doesnât mean they canât operate in the equine business. They can teach, act as agent and never set foot on a USEF controlled showgrounds. Unrated shows are fair game. Relatives of either person were not involved in criminal or USEF proceedings. Yet many on this thread went after them.
TWF: whatâs the âsportsmens mottoâ? Never heard of it and I doubt USEF did either.
If you mean the âSportmanâs Charterâ then you need to re-read it.
Get over it.
WowâŠthat didnât take long⊠inbox, voice mail, PMâs, text messagesâŠFULL!
First, PHâŠIâm sorry you and your contractors have become the latest victims in a loooooong continuous list. Sadly, the readers who have followed this thread will not be surprised. And although this thread/case concerned fraud regarding horse sales, they were known for not paying in every other aspect of their lives.
There are a couple of other things I wanted to address. Yes, they are eligible to apply for reinstatement with the USEF. However, they were given guidelines that must be completed/followed before the USEF will consider it. I was at the closed hearing as a witness on behalf of the USEF and have this list somewhere in one of my files. S A McKee is correct in that just because they can reapply, that does not mean the USEF will automatically reinstate them.

I would like to clarify that the only person responsible for the issue I posted about is Keg Berlin. Josh Cardine didnât contract for any work, only Keg.
Keg Berlin
PLEASE NOTE that the only person responsible for the issues we are facing at Shibui Ni is Keg Berlin. There is no âtheyâ in our complaint.

CCâŠyou are not the only one who has expressed such concerns. It is my understanding that Dr. Turner had been in a nursing home for quite some time and passed away prior to Mrs. Turner. Mrs. Turner had been battling cancer and, sadly, died this past May. I did not know nor had ever met either.
Hey EEFâŠJust curiousâŠIâll bet you also think Casey Anthony has been âpunishedâ enough, right? Let me guessâŠshe has, as you saidâŠthe right to rebuild her life and be left aloneâŠTheese people are scumbags and gave up their rights after stealing other peoples property. Call them what they areâŠCRIMINALS!!! 'Nuff saidâŠ
Thanks for that clarification PH.
On the books is the ruling preventing suspended members from attending USEF events. The Federation âis justified in avoiding actual or potential harm to its events, members and reputation, not to mention the horsesâ
I bet you got a phone call from some upset person, huh?! Donât let them threaten or intimidate you. Even if their so called attorney calls you⊠tell them to call your attorney. It will never happen as their âattorneyâ in the past has been a friend they convinced to call and threaten people, saying he was an attorney.
Keep every voice mail, write down caller id numbers/date/time, etc. Most of all, donât give up!! There are many of us here to help you get your money!!!
Understood and apologies. I believe most people/posters refer to âtheyâ simply because they always worked as a team when it came to horse activities. Even in the federal court documents they were each charged with the same 70+ countsâŠdidnât matter which one was the front man for a specific charge/crime.

No phone calls. Just wanted to clarify that Keg is solely responsible for the work that hasnât been paid for. No âtheyâ in this project. Thatâs all.
