Festival of Champions

Sure, and Kastel is benefitting from her becoming a public figure in Dressage…

So? Does that somehow lessen the amount of work involved?

Honestly, people here are always complaining about rich housewives buying upper-level horses, having their trainers warm them up, then hopping on to win ribbons.

Now we have someone who runs her own business, rides her own horses, does her own warmups… and people are STILL complaining!

You pretty much accused judges of taking gifts that then influence their scores.
That’s pretty outrageous.
I know a number of upper level judges.
None would consider this.

Sometimes it’s worthwhile to notice who enjoys putting forth incendiary comments then sitting back and enjoying the campfire.

Sure none of the judges would ever do this…. And I am relieved that you tell me that judges never accept any gifts…… (and now being a bit sarcastic…. So they have at least much more integrity than SC judges ). I am sure that they don’t break the rules!

I don’t understand why anyone goes to a horse show if they think the whole system is rigged and or corrupt. Why are you friendly with these people who are enabling the system you have so many problems with? For that matter why live here if your former country was superior in every way?

I don’t get it.

Don’t put words in my mouth even sarcastically. I said they wouldn’t consider changing scores in response to gifts.
Not that they would never take a gift. Of course they do. For example it is common for a clinic organizer to give a small gift to the clinician at the end of the event.

And of course those judges always seemed to give IW a break when it comes to a real halt, ……etc

Maybe just maybe you should start to read posts before you answer…… and maybe you should start to open your eyes while going through life……

Lorilu just confirmed that judges do accept presents . and they do it in many countries. So it doesn’t really matter where you live…. And if you want to show you simply have to accept it….

But I still prefer to know who I deal with…. And BTW there are very correct judges in Europe and in the US and I always enjoy to show with them :blush:

I read this article today…then went back to look at the 1936 Olympic judging. The German judges scores stuck out like a sore thumb LOL. I have to print it up and take a better look at the scores but right away you see that he scored all three teammates much higher that the others competing.

Love it!!! Thank you very much. So I guess when judges are biased because of nationality and FEI ranking there might be other factors in lower level competitions which were not evaluated in this article…. judges are human like everybody else and they are not faultless….

Do you think those German judges were paid off in 1936 LOL?

When going through the L program, I always brought a small gift for whichever judge let me sit with them.

I started a new thread with that article a while ago.

does it sound like I said this?? I am sure at that time they knew exactly how they were supposed to score without any money involved

I would imagine that in 1936, that German judge had a very clear idea of which side his bread was buttered.

However, I think the concept of the regular bribing of judges at modern day national events is a bit far-fetched.

A lot of us have judges as friends and clinicians, and I’m sure most os would agree that, if anything, there’s more of an “I know you can do better than that!” effect!

Thank you that you agree with me on the judges in 1936.

But todays judges I don’t think I agree with you!!!

Of course it will not happen like “I give you something and you score me higher the next time you judge me….”

It happens in a more decent and friendlier way… think how the SC judges received their gratifications… they were invited to go fishing, somebody paid a relatives school and so on…
None of this was serious enough to be declared. But don’t you think the judges had a nice warm friendly feeling towards the persons who were so kind???
And the article which was linked here showed that judges get biased for less without even wanting it….

I will quote an example from many years ago which I think is a perfect example, yes I happened to see personally some other examples nowadays but I prefer this example.

I rode in a very successful show barn when I was a teen. The owner had several international competing GP horses and an accomplished trainer. And he had a daughter in my age.
the owner and the trainer both became German Champions at that time.

The daughter competed nationally and made the German junior team once which competed at the European championships.

Also there was a judge boarding in that barn. he rode every morning together with the owner of the barn and he bought his horse many years ago from the owner of the barn for cheap because the horse was not suitable for international dressage. They were very good friends.
The judge was well liked and judged a lot.
The daughter only made the team once in the year when this judge was on the panel for the qualifications…. All the other years she did not make the team and at the European championships she did not do really well.

Maybe she also learned to ride the way that judge preferred?

After all, its one of the reasons why people clinic with judges.

Its also dangerous… as your example shows!
