I guess he did say QH Iām in denial! Iāve owned many many quarter horses, two from yearlings and their backends were totally different.
Thereās alot of thoroughbred in the quarter horseās! Appendix maybe?
Those marks are typical of a horse banging their head and face against a hard surface. I donāt know why, but for some reason it is as if a flap of skin just drops off.
Have seen that with a horse that struggled in a trailer. Or was running in a small area and banging their head into the fence. Or even just not watching what they are doing while messing around in a shed, trying to get the most/best hay.
It can heal up invisibly, but it can take a couple of weeks or longer. Very annoying in the week before a show !!!
Sheās lovely! Congratulations on saving her!
Oh sheās lovely. And quite thick, isnāt she?
Yes, her face healed so nicely with no scarring. That was with zero help from me as she was pretty terrified.
@2bayboys she does look thicker than she actually is she has an insane winter coat. Her knees arenāt nearly as bulky when you feel them.
Right now sheās with a QH that is close in age. He is THICK. She very well could be appendix as mentioned!
That is what I was thinking, sheās an Appendix.
I love that she has a play-mate! Please keep up updated on Gemma, I canāt wait to see her when she sleeks out for the summer.
I will! She was a heart string purchase as I watched her running into panels but I have zero regrets!
Her little buddy belongs to one of my best friends. Itās been a blast going through the process with young ones in hopes to create a balanced, sensible adult horse not my first rodeo with yearlings but definitely a first dealing with one that did not trust humans!
My guess is running bred QH or barrel-bred QH.
Sheās gorgeous. Love her sweet face!
I love the foofy tails! Theyāre having so much fun. Sheās really cute and her ears are adorable. Glad you saved her.
Oh I loff her. Love her trot in the bang pen. I like what look like somewhat good substance legsā¦ I think a month or two of decompression will bloom her trust. Possibly she had a somewhat hands off early life. Not a great start to life of being a good working citizen. With a nice , calm buddy and TLC it will happen. Looking forward.
Thank you, everyone! I appreciate your input and kind words. She has really been so fun and I truly believe sheās going to have an amazing glow up! Iāll be sure to share a photo when she sheds out
Oh, of course we want photos!
Sweet girl had her feet done for the first time! A recent storm ripped up part of the roof that was flapping with the heavy winds and Gemma still did fantastic!
I was so curious how she would do with a man since Bowie has been her only interaction with men. She backed up fast and then stood relatively nicely for the majority of the time. So so proud š„¹
Whew, when I read the part about the farrier I thought āoh please, no crackā. And you didnāt! Glad to hear your girl is settling in and settling down.
Had to go back and see IF I missed a crack.
OP, your filly is beautiful!
I vote that sheās mostly TB.
Canāt wait to see her progress.
Sheās a lucky filly, for sure.
There was almost farrier crack popping out Iām hoping she has some TB in there. At this point Iām so invested that if I find out sheās a muleā¦Iām in haha
A couple more horses and that shirt will have inched up
Just love her! Whatever breed she is (looks TB or Appendix to me) she is going to be a lovely horse. Congrats and keep us all updated!
