Finger Lake Race Track -- End of the Season -- Many New Homes -- Warmest Thanks

See post #121

The track closes on December 5th. We had two teams on the backside yesterday, and have just finished putting up 19 new listings, plus new pictures on one older listing.

Now is the time to start “persuading” yourself and all of your friends that a new OTTB is really needed. We’re running out of time, and the ability to get these guys to a great new home and career.

Here’s the “new” old listing. BG Lark is one of the sweetest mares you would ever want to meet. She’s going to make someone very happy.

How about Gerarda Moon? In my opinion, she is drop dead gorgeous and BUILT. There was a young horse on the walker near her while her pictures were being taken. She wasn’t fazed at all. She kept standing there, with her ears pricked, like she was saying “What’s that young fool wasting so much energy for?”

If you’re a big gelding person, don’t overlook Fiddler’s Dubai.

And, if you like true gentlemen, take a good look at Joe Cosmo.

I can’t list all of them here. There are so many beauties, both in the new listings, and in the older listings, of horses that have been around for a while.

The need is great this year. I don’t have to tell you that the economy stinks. That’s going to make it harder than ever to place these guys. Please, if you can, take one of these good souls home.

Lovely horses, all of them!

Gerarda Moon is just beautiful!

But I’m partial to Go Shorty - of course, the saddlebred lover in me adores any horse with a high set neck: http://fltrainerlist.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1119

And Michael’s Vow, who was added a few weeks ago just oozes class if you ask me: http://fltrainerlist.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1068

They’d both fit so well in my currently EMPTY 2 stall barn. sigh if ONLY I could!

I have a thing for chestnut geldings… I really like this guy!

I really liked this CUTE little guy!

And my very most favorite of all this year - my friend Wing. He is a lovely love!

If Wingsy doesn’t get snapped up by some lucky person his trainer was thinking about keeping him as a pony horse.

Shorty’s trainer said he has character coming out of every ounce of him! Very happy horse and he loves to do and go and see!

Aww… I think Number needs (another!!!) friend!

I like Go Shorty too… totally see him as jumper!!

How come no one has snapped up Rocky with Attitude? I think he is a stunner… He is also really well bred… cant believe he has not sold.

If I had room and a couple more dollars a month you BET Wingsy would be right here! All of the horses that belong to this trainer give soft kisses and are just the friendliest of horses. I’d bet he doesn’t eat as much as Nums does either!

For those of you who don’t know him here is the famous  Number, winner of two races out of 70 starts - whew.

Just when I think I’ve made up my mind y’all list a bunch more…

Question for people like maunder and Louise–have you ever had someone buy based solely on a listing and a vet check? Are most of the trainers all right with that, and would you have recommendations for a vet who’d do a PPE for an out of state buyer? I basically have no way of getting to New York any time soon (though there’s a faint possibility I could get my brother to come upstate to be there for a vet check, if his work allows.)

I got 2 horses from FL last year this way. Both of them turned out to be exactly how their trainers represented them. This year, I took a drive to New York to look myself, partly because I was hoping the horse wasn’t anything like his picture and I could talk myself out of buying him. Well, it didn’t work…he is now living in Kentucky with me and is even better than I could have ever hoped for!!

Louise and maunder are also very knowledgable horse people and have spent time around these horses and many of these trainers, and I know they would be willing to answer whatever questions they can!

The vetting was very easy for me too. Even though I drove up myself, Market View was racing that afternoon and I wanted a vet to look him over after he ran. Louise gave me the numbers of the 3 track vets. I called the first on her list after I got home, and he was very helpful. He got what I wanted done right away and returned my phone calls promptly. Very, very professional and courteous.

The economy!! People are just really holding back on buying horses right now. The horse I bought, Market View, would have been snatched up immediately in a better economy, but lucky for me, this wasn’t the case!

I saw Rocky in person and he is even nicer than his pictures. Someone REALLY needs to give him a home!

Aw, maunder, he is gorgeous! I just can’t believe they kept trying to make a racehorse out of him…I mean, after the first 30-40 losses, I think I’d throw in the towel!

Maria’s Treasure is beautiful. What a gorgeous build she has!

12 green star mares, only 12 starts and she’s 6.

I’m very seriously considering Live Action:

Will call the number listed first thing in the morning. There’s no way I can get up there, so I need as much info (and moral support) as possible about vets up there for a PPE and transportation down to Maryland. Any advice or info welcome!

I am not (repeat, NOT!) going to look at the listings!

However, I wanted to add that my FL horse has turned out to be sweet, quiet, and exactly as described in his listing. He’s really come a long way.

If anybody’s on the fence about getting one of these horses- go for it!

And if you can’t get an OTTB…you can still help by making even a wee dribble of a donation to Finger Lakes…we are waiting for their wish list (as soon as we get it it will go up on our site!) but you can still offer to be a FLTAP Secret Santa!

Thank you! I love my Num! I think his trainers liked him because he remained sound and was able to fill races and be enough in the money to earn them a bit. He’s also very polite and surely does know his job. The race he won at Finger Lakes is really cute to watch (sometime in July 2008). He comes from the very back and just zoooooooms past everyone else. The look on his face is “Wow! I did it! Great! Weeee!”
He has the true heart of a racehorse… a real tryer.

Action is one gorgeous horse! PM Louise for the vet phone #'s. I went on Uship.com to find a shipper and got a very fair deal. Let us know if you get him!!

Tell me everything you know about Wing. I am in love. I am looking for chestnut, older (5+) not too tall. Most important is laid back personality. Dopey even. Doesn’t even have to be too smart. Horse will be mostly a friend but will do some low level eventing, but I’m off to vet school next year so he will need to be able to be loved on and handled by an intermediate handler (my wife.)

The number for Wing’s trainer is no good. I want him! He looks perfect. Any other contact info?
