Finger Lake Race Track -- End of the Season -- Many New Homes -- Warmest Thanks

AWSOME! Im definately enabling you to get him! Track closes tomorrow. id call the trainer tonight and see if he’ll be willing to work with you on price since it would be a haul to ship him. and while you’re doing that you can be contacting shippers to get some quotes. you never know! Tell your hubby its urgent as the track closes tomorrow   :). He certaintly is lovely isnt he??

danceronice and EquineLVR have horses shipping West, at least halfway to you.

PM one of them and see if you can hitch on their ride for a reduced price.

A HUGE THANK YOU to foundationmare for spending more than 2 hours with me today (when she had more than enough of her own work to do ) while I was at FL looking at horses.

My daughter (Mandalay) has already posted that the very lovely Red Tail’s Wish and Chequer Cat (from foundationmare’s barn) came home with me today

I looked at many nice horses. And I learned one thing…I NEED A BIGGER FARM :lol::lol:

I’ll post more later, with a couple of pics.

Again, thank you foundationmare!

HOORAY! Congratulations on your Finests!

Let me clarify one thing. Racing ends tomorrow. However, trainers have about 10 days to leave the backside. So, keep shopping, as there as many beautiful horses still available, and still time to get them.

I am still in shock no one has bought Somewhereinbetween yet, she is just awesome and looks to be bred to be a great sporthorse!
Some of the finest raced today. Another Sweetie ran a good second, bless her old mare heart!

Rock and Roll Roan is entered for Saturday…yes, the race went…and he’ll be fine. Rest easy Spyglass! I’ll make every effort to check him out after his race and I’ll get an honest assessment by one of my “spies” in that barn!
FM - I sent you a PM and an email… I am going to need you to house the kids for a couple days… the shipper is now caught in a bad snow storm and Pat needs to leave… :frowning:

Got it EquineLVR and e-mailed you back (I think…maybe a PM. Oy! I’ve been busy). No problems, I can take care of your two until the shipper arrives. I’m also taking care of Stellaspeed’s With Spirit (hubba hubba).

I showed Somewhereinbetween this morning and she was a darling, jogged well and all, just needed a knock-off with a brush, but she’s still waiting…patiently…oh, so, patiently…please, please, please.

You’re very welcome Crazy Gray Horse and Mandalay! I had fun and I get so much gratification when these horses find such wonderful homes. I firmly believe that Red Tail’s Wish will be a solid citizen once she has people loving on her and engraining her with the consistency of loving, patient and compassionate caretaking. She appeared to me to be a bewildered and complacent youngster, not thrilled about her lot in life, but not motivated to make YOUR life miserable because of it. What a sweet, cute little girl.

Have fun with her CGH and Mandalay! And Chequer Cat: what can I say?! He’s a beauty and I will expect pics and updates! Congratulations on your two new beauties!

Anyone familiar with WING?

 He’s a hunk!

I’ve been laying low and watching things unfold on this thread. Last year I had such a great time bringing my FL beasties home… I really wish I was in a position to do it again (maybe next year ;))! I’m happy to see so many folks stepping up and finding good homes for these nice horses  COTH rocks!!!

He’s home! Lucky to Cope arrived tonight, and was as mannerly as you could expect after eleven hours in the trailer and arriving in about 20 degree weather! (IOW, a little bouncy when he got off the trailer, but nothing out of line.)

If you are shipping in the northeast to Midwest, I cannot recommend Terry von Hagn from Newt-Mitchell Hilltop Acres enough. She’s out of Bath, NY, and she picked up Lucky at 6am this morning and dropped him off at 5:30 this evening. 607-794-2164 She called when she picked up, she called an hour before arriving to let me know when they’d be there, and she even blanketed him for the ride.

Lucky to Cope looks great! All of us there when he arrived are pretty sure if we put a stick on him, he’d be more like 16+ than 15.3. He immediately decided to eat his straw (until the BO’s husband pointed him at the hay.) I put him in his stall for the night, but from the look I had, he’s got nice bone, and a lovely refined head. Tomorrow I’m headed back out to get acquainted (and see if he’s a peppermint man or a carrot man) and to give him a chance to have a better look at his new digs.

For anyone considering a FL finest:

Somewhereinbetween is a lovely mare, jogged out nicely and has remarkably clean legs! Someone really needs to get this lovely mare.

I also looked at a lovely 3 yo today that isn’t in the postings, Lotta Lotsa (close enough ). Pretty bay mare that was very sweet - about 16 hands. Trainer said his kids brush her at the track and handle her at home!

Stopped by and peaked in on Silent Reflection for up-at-5. What a sweet mare. She gave me several kisses

We looked at several others - all nice, nice horses. If only we could bring them all home.

Chequer Cat is a stunningly beautiful horse. I’m so glad foundationmare showed him to me at the last minute. Sweet boy…he was a little bit high when he got off the trailer. Walked around a bit, then in the stall for a nice roll, drink and some hay. He was super interested in the pony across the aisle  He finally settled though. This horse is a peppermint hound!!! Spits out the carrots - nuzzles daughter for peppermints. Smart boy!

Red Tail’s Wish is a quiet, sweet filly that isn’t sure what to do with affection. Poor fiilly did NOT want to load on the trailer. We spent 20 minutes, perhaps longer trying to get her to load. She was really nervous, even a little scared. Thanks to the 2 additional trainers that came along and helped because I was about ready to give up and leave w/o her. I checked on both twice on the way home - CC was fine, filly was so tense. When we got home she wouldn’t get off the trailer.

Once she did, daughter walked her everywhere, loose lead - even jogged her al little on the driveway. This filly is so quiet, it’s hard to believe she’s only 3. I think she is going to be a real gem.

They both are blanketed and tucked in for the night. Pictures will be forthcoming.

ugh that sucks. hoping the adorable guy got a fantastic home!
I discovered this board as I was researching FLTAP horses and likely will not be an active poster, but so you know, Take Me Flying will be home in FL come next Fri/Sat. He was my first choice along with Jo Cosmo; the price, and the fact that TMF’s owner/trainer was trucking horses to Ocala made him the meant-to-be choice. I also considered Sir Knight Shot and General Justice.

His new career will be eventing (for fun, not to bolster my ego), hunter paces, trail riding, being my personal psychotherapist and snatching snacks at tailgate parties. He’ll share his pasture with my charity case TB rescue and live outside like horses ought to except when weather dictates that being in a stall is the wiser course, such as when lightning or when cold rain pours.

He’ll event because, in that sport, handsome is as handsome does: the question is can you do the jobs? vs. are you decked out in the en vogue tack or are you the breed du jour? As for his 15.1h stature? I am happy not to have to pay for giant blankets, giant trailers, wide tree saddles and larger feed bills! It is the size of his heart and not his height at his withers that matters. He is a thoroughbred: his heart is not in question. Stroller won the Hickstead Derby @14.2hh and if that is too old of a reference, consider Teddy O’Connor (14.1-3/4hh) and watch him at Rolex '07 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1eiBcINTF4

Big is overrated

FF

OTTBs ROCK!

Old Friends

I’ll definitely pay a visit to Old Friends when the boys get settled and will post pics when I do. i’ll be sure to take a pocket full of carrots.

msj - if you make it here to Old Friends do let me know and we’ll meet up. If you need a place to stay, I have plenty of room. In fact, for anyone planning to make a trip here to Saratoga to Old Friends (or the track for that matter), I’d love to meet up with you. We have plenty of room if anyone needs a place to stay.

Congratulations FriskyFlea!! I’m totally with you on the size issue; anyone that ever saw Teddy go round Rolex has to know heart is what is important!

Sounds like Take Me Flying is a lucky horse!

I remember Chequer when he was in NY. I think Billy Turner (of Seattle Slew fame) used to train him. I saw him race several times but never met him.

I hope to get to Old Friends:Saratoga over the winter. I promise to give treats to all the “Finests” up there.

It’s so much fun to read about the finests settling into their new homes! Sounds like Danceronice had a terrific shipper and she’s going to be tops on my list of recommend rides.

Crazy Gray Horse, I think Red Tail’s Wish is indeed going to be a gem once she relaxes and begins to trust her people. She has had no idea what to expect next in her short life. She really, really needed you to take her home. And Chequer Cat: I can’t wait to see pics and get updates as you progress along with him!

RI’m going to be fostering EquineLVRs beauties, Western Buff and Rockywithattitude until they can ship out to Colorado early next week (fingers crossed for improving weather). Ironically, Rocky spent last winter in the same barn.

I’ll also be fostering Stellaspeed’s With Spirit until he ships out to Kentucky later in the month. He’s going with a large load for Turtle Bayou. Bless you! With Spirit is a truly gorgeous animal. They’re always much prettier in person!

I have people coming out of the woodwork whenever they see me at the track. Crazy Gray Horse has mentioned Lottsalassa and she’ll be showing up on the listings this weekend. She is a solid dark bay (looks black) filly who is very sweet and kind.

Also, Nikki Blue and March West are now free. March West is stunning. Has some ankles but have no idea if he is sound on them or not.

Today is our last racing day. I’ll be watching Rock and Roll Roan for Spyglass Eventing and I’m betting he’ll be bouncing back to the barn!

Sorry for the delay in answering. I’m on my computer all day for work (and play) so I don’t log on after five usually…

Wing is one of my all-time favorites this year. His trainer has him at a farm now. Someone was interested in this nice horse earlier but the trainer stated that the person called, but didn’t show. Word is that if Wing doesn’t sell that he’ll be a pony horse candidate for this trainer.

He’s a friendly, bright-eyed horse. Gives good kisses!

I am SO glad to read this

I am smiling when I read this, that little gelding kept tugging at my heart. I’m so happy that he got a good home. I hope you have many wonderful years together.
