Finger Lake Race Track -- End of the Season -- Many New Homes -- Warmest Thanks

This is all so exciting to follow!

Friskyflea, Dave shipped one of my beasties. He actually ended up keeping him at his place in Florida for a bit. He and his wife were absolutely wonderful to deal with!

I made a call to our local paper, the Saratogian, in hopes they may run a story on KP. I was a day late and a dollar short as the saying goes. The just ran an article last week on Old Friends at Cabin Creek the Bobby Frankel Division. KP is mentioned in the article. Unfortunately, she didn’t want to run another feature of similar content. She did suggest an editorial depicting how KP came to arrive at OF of NY.

The link to the story is below for anyone interested.

How great! I did a quick skim and am printing the article out. Thanks so much for posting it.

Good luck to all the new horse owners and horses. I hope all the horses get to their new homes and enjoy being spoiled as I’m sure all the new owners will be doing.

Been thinking of you all these last few days… those who had shipments delayed mid week, probably a blessing in disguise as the weather was ugly and far better horses stuck at the track than stuck on the I90!

Can’t wait to hear about all FL beasties as they arrive at their new homes.

Someone should post a master list of who has who… pretty cool how many FL horses went home with COTHers this year!

Somewhereinbetween is home! Foundationmare put the best note tucked into her halter and a bow. I can’t believe it stayed there for the whole trip, but it did.

She’s going to be a blast, I can tell, she’s a feisty little filly for sure! After we are all done with the other horses today, she’ll get a little turn out to stretch her legs in the ring, I’ll bring my camera down, see if I can get some pictures of the little one.

Stellaspeed is on her way home with the 3 others. Devilshire was just the cutest, most laid back guy! With Spirit is a riot, a total lover and loves attention. The little black filly is drop dead gorgeous, very quiet and sweet.

There are 4 really nice Finger Lakes horses in VA now!

Yeah for Somewhereinbetween!! Glad they made the trip safely!!

Today has been incredible! I slept in until almost 7 a.m. and then headed to the track to move the last horses out and strip stalls. I was so anxious to meet Lori and send her sweet little Silent Reflection on her way to her new life as a Canuck!

Lori arrived right on time with her daughter, Deanna, in tow. Silent Relection was so sweet, standing like a little lady and giving them wuffles. They put bandages and a blanket on her and she walked on to the trailer without turning a hair. Lori gave me a very nice “thank you” gift of chocolates and Body Shop stuff. Thank you Lori! Seeing those happy people driving away with a very lucky filly is thanks enough!

And Skee Love is shuffling off to Buffalo! I think she was the very last horse to leave the grounds and, after the racing life she’s had, she’s surely landed in clover.

If you still find horses you’re interested in, don’t hesitate to contact trainers at the numbers provided. Some of these horses are simply wintering at a farm somewhere.

Thanks again for the remarkable response from all of you COTHers who have opened your hearts to so many Finests, and thanks also to all of the enablers who are instrumental in moving the process along.

Thank you, thank you, everyone!

Thanks for the update foundationmare. It kind of made me misty to know that they’ve all headed out…

I have been a little bit of a Scrooge these last few Christmases. All the commercialization of Christmas, the emphasis on spend, spend, spend has really gotten to me, and I have pretty much ignored the entire holiday season.

But, in doing that, I have forgotten that the real meaning of Christmas is not in the spending, it is in the giving of yourself and your joy to others. That is what Christmas is about.

And, in this Season of Joy, so many people this year have come forth and given of themselves to these Finger Lakes horses that I have found my spirit renewed and reawakened. And so, I, too, have gotten a very special gift this Christmas.

So, to everyone; from the volunteers, especially foundationmare and maunder, who have worked so hard to find matches for lovely horses, and loving people; to the folks who have taken a chance, so many sight unseen, on these horses who we get to feel that we know; to those of you who have done their part in keeping this thread alive and vital, I give my most grateful thanks.

Thank you for giving Christmas back to me, and for renewing my faith in humankind.

Beautifully said Louise. Thank you!

Well ladies it is you volunteers who are the heart of all this.

Thanks for continuing to work so hard on behalf of these horses… none of this would happen if it weren’t for your dedication!

No way could any of us have done anything without you volunteers! I know for me, you guys have given me an outstanding gift, thank you, from the bottom of my heart!

Somewhere got her first grooming and turn out. My camera battery died, I couldn’t believe it! I can say she is a drop deap GORGEOUS mover! From her pictures, I thought she was going to be nice, better then average, but both my DH and I stood there, mouths open, and just watched her float across the ring. She may be little, but she’s a mighty one for sure  I’m charging it now, I’ll get some of her tomorrow, promise.

She trotted up to a few of the jumps, snorted at them, and then trotted herself right down through the trot poles. She had herself a mighty roll, some good bucks and played around a bit. Then came in, got a good grooming, and had some dinner. She is really is one neat horse. She’s grown in her winter coat, but you can still see all her dapples through it. She did think the big blue vacuum was going to eat her, so we’ll work on that next week, once she’s had a chance to settle in a bit more.

Thanks again foundationmare. For everything, you really made this happen for Somewhere and I, she really is a gift.

Wonderful, wonderful!
I’m so glad for Somewhereinbetween who we just KNEW would be the special horse for someone! Can’t wait for photos!

This has been a grand finish to a Finger Lakes Season. You know… it’s worth every volunteer moment, every tear, every bit of frustration, every bit of joy. The horses are worth it and the new people they find are worth it.

Thank you all.

Yay! I’m so glad she got a home- any idea what she’s going to be doing, broodie or riding horse?

Congrats to all of you who brought home a new family member in time for the holidays!

Well, we’re home!! I didn’t think I’d be able to post, but I’m having a cold beer, then heading out for the office xmas party.
The last 24 hours have been surreal, to say the least. What a build up!!! The long and short is this: I worked a 14 hour day yesterday. Got home and snoozed a bit on the couch while perusing the internet. Got off the couch at 2am, only to notice that DD has not crawled home from the Dane Cook show she went to. OhhhhKaaayyyy! Now I’m a tad bit pissed!! Anyway, she got home and crawled into the truck and off we went.

It was so great to meet Margie!! What a doll she is:D Then we got to see our little lady, Silent Reflection, whom we have nicknamed “Lexie” WOW!! She’s finer that what I envisioned, but that’s ok with us. What a sweetie. Deanna put shipping wraps on and she never budged. And, she walked right onto the trailer. The liitle gal is so fine, I never felt any change in the trailer with her on board. She’ just a baby…her little teeth are just coming in… We had an issue at the border, of course, but I will yap about that later.
When we got to the barn, Lexie walked in like the little princess she is, and made herself right at home. She likes to dunk her hay in the water:lol: and the BO had a nice bran mash all ready for when she settled in.
We could not resist, and turned her out in the indoor so she could have a nice stretch. Her trot and walk are amazing!!! Canter was a bit choppy, but that’s not an issue, it will come once she figures out that she doesn’t have to be “on” all the time.

WE LOVE HER!!!

Can’t wait to see the transformation from racehorse to hunter/jumper/dressage!!! Whatever she excels at is what we will do.
She’s a star in our eyes, and that’s what it’s all about!!

Margie…it’s hard to buy for someone you hardly know, so I hope you like the gift. A small token of our thanks:D
Anyway, pics to follow tomorrow, right now I have to shower and get dolled up for xmas party. With two hours sleep, and 12 hours on the road, I don’t think I will last past the dinner.

Gosh…can it get any better?

I love these updates!!! Maunder, I’ve been experiencing miracles for days on end and I’m not greedy for more! I have been blessed many times over, and it’s in no small measure to the efforts of you and Louise. Your off-track, behind the scenes work are instrumental in making this website so successful. More miracles will unfold when they’re meant to unfold! One of many lessons I’ve learned in recent weeks is that the good people in our COTH community are generous and compassionate to a fault.

Lori, I’m so happy that you’re home with Silent Reflection, aka Lexie! And yes the gift is definitely in my wheel house: chocolate and clementine Body Shop goodies. I’ve bought the clementine “flavor” before! How intuitive of you!

I’ll say it again: my heart is full.

Ishi–Are you going to call her Somewhere? Or will she get a different barn name?

I knew she was a gem!! I couldn’t believe she went for so long without someone grabbing her! I am just glad she got a wonderful home…some things were just meant to be, I guess!

I am uncontrollably verklempt. Louise, I am a Xmas avoider too, but this certainly makes it all better.

Puts a new spin on “… and to all a good night”… thinking of them all tucked in at their new homes…

Amen EqTrainer! I’m all verklempt as well! Love the word! Love the sentiment!
