I’m amazed at that number! You guys did an extraordinary job!! I was so worried that things would not be good this year… Sometimes it’s great to be wrong
Holy cow! That is fantastic! Let’s hope the number at least breaks 100 by the end of the month.
Thanks again to all the ladies that make the rounds weekly at Finger Lakes to secure homes for these terrific horses. I feel I have come to know many of them through this thread…
PLUS -you can add to the COTH total the one I got directly from the trainer, the horse that I had been waiting for almost 3 years, Nightintheslammer!
Keep the updates coming on the horses that have new homes…
Many thanks to Margie and all of the others who pitched in on this great effort. I am happy to be on the receiving end of one of these guys, and will keep you posted on all of his exploits. Though at this moment I turned him out in the ring expecting him to run around like a maniac, and his head dropped for grass and I can’t even CHASE him around! I think that’s a good sign…
Skee Love
Tyrian,
I am thrilled that you chose Skee Love! When I took her photos at the track, I just fell in love with her and I couldn’t stop worrying about her getting a forever home. I just know that she is so glad to be with her own person. Her trainer told me that every morning when he took her to gallop at the track, he let her just stand and take in the sights and then she would just decide she was ready and go to work.
Thank you cgn38, I instantly fell i love with her!!! She’s doing wonderful still, she loves her new social life even if she doesn’t get the whole horse social structure!!! She is enjoying her time off and all her hay, as soon as I put it in the stall she has to roll in it before eating!!!
Just an update on Carr Ride: My friend called to see if he was still available but the trainer said he has been placed.
She is still looking for a free horse, she has the trailer and stall all set, it’s just that a week before christmas she needs free.

I think a few posts back, Louise posted about a couple of older campaigners in their teens that were free. When I have a chance, I’ll see if I can find them.
Go check out either Land Attack or SS Maria. Both are 18 yr old geldings looking for a good home. They aren’t free but you might be able to convince the owner of a good home.
So happy to hear about Carr Ride! I felt so guilty as he was on my short list, but I bought Lucky before Carr Ride’s price dropped to “free.”
I’m stunned no one snapped up Maria’s Treasure–not free, but a gorgeous mare.

I would encourage anyone looking to give a good home to a great horse to contact Steve about Land Attack and SS Maria. These horses were listed a long time ago and had a lot of hits on the website but the contact phone number was incorrect. He is very anxious to get these two placed in new homes and would probably let them go free to good homes. My friend from PA just adopted the old gray mare Sweep the Slate and I saw these two old guys still there in the paddock. Dr. Maribeth Wallingford is the owner of SS Maria; she’s been keeping him at Steve’s farm all this time and I know she wants him placed into a new home. I have her number for anyone interested who would like to speak with her.
Thanks for your consideration,
Dr. Margaret Ohlinger

Two Full Pockets
Hey! I thought I’d finally make a post on here - I am “Pockets” new owner. I got him home on Thursday and he has been absolutely wonderful. He loves peppermints and comes to me when I call him in the field. I have ridden him twice and he has a lovely canter. He even stands for me to mount him, which is odd for an ottb. I am very happy with him and look forward to his retraining
Yay Cashew! Wonderful news and so happy that you worked out the shipping-across-the-border blues! We will expect regular updates and pictures, of course. Please give Pockets a collective hug from Finger Lakes’ Finests!

Please post some pictures when you can! So glad to hear he is with you…

Congratulations!
I just knew from his photos that he would be a sweetie.
You’ll have to let us know when it warms up there in the Far North about his swimming skills.
Karakorum Patriot Update
Heartfelt thanks to all here who helped retire Karakorum Patriot!
Patriot is doing great at Old Friends at Cabin Creek (greenfield Center NY)
He’s a really good boy. I got to meet him right before Christmas and he looks good. He’s settled into a 16x16 stall and enjoys his daily turnout.
Patriot is a real sweetheart, loves apples and affection. His leg is being monitored, so far so good. He has company every day, a pasture mate and lots of attention. His breeder is planning to visit this week, and it will be a sweet reunion. It’s heartwarming to see this road warrior back home where he started out, retired, with years to enjoy the rolling pastures and companionship.
Old Friends at Cabin Creek: The Bobby Frankel Division is expecting their 1st Bobby Frankel trained retiree later this week … maybe on New Years day depending on if we get the snow. They have horses aged from 1 to 20 (Thunder Rumble) and it’s a lucky day when a horse arrives there. Joanne and Mark Pepper have built a wonderful place, and the horses are cared for like family.
The farm is beautiful, rolling hills, a stream, large and smaller paddocks, a beautiful new barn built - by Mark - with stalls big enough for foaling. I hope folks here get a chance to visit - there will be an official opening in July, and open houses on Saturdays.
Thanks again to everyone for all their hard work, helping get (((KP))) retired & devotion to the horses.
Congratulations on all you have accomplished this season, horses finding their way to good homes, and all the positive news about horses placed this season!!! Have a great New Year!
Thank you so much for the update! Love to hear how our Finests are doing. They’re all special to me. But, honestly, if I could have hand-picked two more deserving horses than Midnight Secret and Karakorum Patriot, I don’t think it would be an easy task. My heart is soft for each and every one of them, but those two old fellas really have earned their heaven on Earth. Thanks to you and all of the many, many people who rallied to get this accomplished.
If ever the Peppers need help on the farm, I hope they call me! Angels they are! I’m hoping to make a trip to visit them soon, and may pop in on Crazy Gray Horse as well, who took in Red Tail’s Wish and Chequer Cat!
The compassion and goodness of the many fine people who frequent this BB never fails to amaze and propel me to achieve even more good deeds for the TBs I love. It has been a delight to learn that I have many kindred spirits out there!

That is so wonderful to hear. You have to send us directions to Old Friends at Cabin Creek: The Bobby Frankel Division. I definitely want to come up but not until the weather is better, like late spring or early summer. Feel free to PM directions.
My door is open to you anytime, Margie. We would love to have you visit. If you’re coming and need a place to stay, just say the word
In fact, my door is always open to any CoTHer visiting the area. Would love to play hostess to fellow horsey friends

How about Nicki Blue??? I saw her, she’s a big attractive mare…
Old Friends at Cabin Creek
Thanks for the warm wishes from all those who helped retire Midnight Secret and Karakorum Patriot to Old Friends new NY program.
Here is a New Years Day message from JoAnn Pepper at Old Friends at Cabin Creek: The Bobby Frankel Division. Will pass along best wishes from this fine group. If anybody wants to be added to their email list, please PM me and I’ll pass along to JoAnn. They are looking for volunteers. I will look for the proper thread for that in later posts. Take care, all - cheers, Sue
[I]Happy New Year!!
Please join us tomorrow, Saturday January 2nd between 12:00-3:00 for cake in the barn to celebrate all Thoroughbreds birthdays and to meet our new addition, New Export. He’s one of Bobby Frankels personal horses who was injured in the spring and was needing retirement. He’s 9 years old. He arrived from California early this morning, a beautiful Brazilian bred stallion, trying to figure out what all this snow is.
All the horses are doing well and looking forward to a new year and lots of visitors.
Hope to see you.

Wish I’d checked this thread earlier. I would loved to have gone over to Old Friends - Cabin Creek today for cake and to see all the retirees!!! Alas, it’s a bit late and I’m settled in after a long day at the barn
I’ve sent a note to spa4horses because I’d very much like to visit/volunteer (in all of my free time :lol:) at OF.
LOL, I hope he likes it better than Mr Florida-Bred Lucky is…I can’t even get out to the barn for the second day because of all the lake-effect snow here (almost broke my wrist falling on the road with the dog this morning.) He is absolutely not in love with all this weird white stuff on the ground!
