Geneva Cross

Speaking of iron horses, did someone here snap up Geneva Cross? Hubba, hubba. He was my favorite.[/QUOTE]

My heart just stopped. I now own Geneva Cross! I’ve been searching high and low for anyone who knows anything about his racing career…

Blast from the past!!

Wow, sort of glad you resurrected this so I could take a stroll down memory lane! I remember so many of the horses mentioned. But since you ask about Geneva Cross, I recall that he was an oft-claimed horse. In fact I think we lost a shake on him once and later were told that it was a good thing! IIRC, Geneva was a real spitfire so I’m interested in knowing how he is now. I think his last trainer was Joey Marton. I’ll probably see him on Saturday if there’s anything specific you’d like to know.

I remember when we were trying to place him. He was one handsome warhorse. Many of the horses that we placed kind of disappeared from my mind, but he was one that always stuck. And, yes, foundationmare, I’m pretty sure that Joey Marton was his last trainer.

Wow, I’d I ever tear up reading through this. The end of the 09 meet was spectacular. I will never forget it!

Blast from the past reading this thread, this was the year we got Lexi. I can’t believe it’s been four years. Time sure does fly.

Okay. Resurrecting this again. Was googling for his race record for another random purpose and this thread came back - I never knew anyone responded to it.

I still have Geneva Cross. His name is Gerry nowadays and he’s 17. We farted around and relaxed for the first few years I owned him but we’ve spent the past 2 years training in dressage. He’s a total barn and trainer favorite and loves getting loved on by me and all the other boarders and kids.

He certainly still has his spitfire moments these days but mostly he’s quite the gentleman and I’ll own him forever

So often those people who are in placement see the horses that they work so hard to find new homes for pass from their sight and disappear. All you can do is hope and pray that their new lives are peaceful and happy. Thank you xhaltsalute for filling us in, all these years later, about the fact that Geneva Cross, Gerry, has had that peaceful and happy life. Thank you for giving him that gift.

Thank you for everything you do/did for him and all the horses you work to place!

My friend and former trainer actually went to the track and got him. She was friends with one of the track vets (Margaret? I don’t know her last name) who I guess liked him and 2 others who at the end of the season had nowhere else to go from what I was told.

According to Gerry’s papers, yes, Joe Marlton was his last trainer. Is Geneva a horse he would remember or care to know about? I don’t mean to imply anything there- it’s just been quite some time obviously and I know very little about track training and how involved the trainers are or aren’t.

Hopefully, foundationmare will see this thread and reply. I have not been involved with placement at Finger Lakes for a number of years now. I don’t know if Joe is even still there, though I suspect he is. I’m friends with foundationmare on facebook. I’ll give her a bump to come over this way.
