Finger Lakes Finest 2013

There were so many fantastic horses to look at. It made me both sad and glad I was not the one looking to buy.

Our favourites are summed up perfectly in up-at-5’s post here. But I will plug my personal favourite just one more time.

Tricky Break just stole my heart from the moment he walked out of his stall. He has the kindest eye I think I have ever seen and a personality that would truly make him an irreplaceable family pet. He is a true steal at the price he is listed for. I am still trying to convince mom I need a project horse this winter and that we should go back up with the trailer today (just wish we had room!). He stood quietly while we chatted and I scratched his neck and he made all sorts of faces. Great manners. Such a puppy dog. He will truly make someone a very happy and proud horse owner

Like in up-at-5’s post above, we saw MANY beautiful horses yesterday. Too many to make horse shopping an easy choice.

I’m finally rested enough to post on what we saw during our tour. After over 8 hours in the car, and a full 5 or so hours at the track, I am zonked!
Lot’s of standouts this year, in regards to the quality of horses available. For those of you on the fence, or worried about having to buy without actually seeing the horse in person, rest assured. The horses all presented in person just as their write ups on the FLF listings describe. Our shopping buddy was the one actually looking to buy, but my daughter and I sure did develop our own “short”(and I use the word short loosely, it’s more like a LONG list) of horses we would be proud to have in our barn.

Tricky Break: what a sweetheart! And such a lovely all around drop dead gorgeous horse! Clean legs, classic looking TB,cutest head ever, and his eye, omg his eye! His eyes are what sold us before we even had a chance to drool over the rest of him.Exactly the type I covet. Great mover, just an all 'round nice, nice horse. He really loves people, loved his scritches and just hanging out with us. Obviously very well cared for. Sign me up as one of his fans! Whoever gets this horse will be very happy, and for those that sit on the fence, this will be the “one who got away”. I don’t think I will ever forget this nice guy. Darnit, I wish we had sold our farm so I could have more room to add this horse to the roster.:frowning:

Lamster: how can you not love that name?! Lammy is all of the above^ Another gorgeous animal obviously very much loved and cared for. Again, all of the above. What more can I say. I’d snap him up in a heartbeat!

Cougar Hunter: :lol, yes, we all thought that kind of “cougar”! Except FM, she kept things on the up and up, claiming to not have thought that about his name! His name suits, he’s the type of horse that will attract many a horsewoman, he’s a handsome young fellow:D Much nicer in real life than in his pics, which is what I will say now about each and every horse we saw. Photos are very well done, but in the flesh, the wow factor really pops out. We loved this horse, and again, welcome in my barn any time.

Bedrock Blues: Solid, sporty looking animal. The kind I also covet( yes, I covet them all it seems). He is another type that we just love. Full of life, personality, and so much to offer. Digressing a bit, but when one has to look at these horses, you must look beyond what you see at that given moment. Or beyond what you see in a photo. This is a nice horse, who was a real sport about being hauled out of his stall and asked to jog pretty for the people. We all really liked this fellow. Lovely kind eye and great conformation, nice mover, looks like he could do just about anything that is asked from him.

Stay High Stanley: was anything but “high”! Calm. calm, calm, another who made our short(long) list. I think he was the first horse we saw. His demeanor is to die for, he was just hangin’ out, taking it all in, la di da, alert and interested, but not a wingnut. He’s a nice looking horse with a lovely head and a kind eye. I liked this horse a lot.

Pressure Point: another looker, fantastic mover, big bodied horse, great attitude. We bought our Oughta Be a Jet from the same connections, very nice people who take excellent care of their charges. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy from these folks again, they’re good people.

Prince Cody was nice from what I recall, I may have been having a smoke(must quit soon) when the girls looked at him. Same with a few of the others, Pegasus Evzone was another really nice one, not sure why he has not been snapped up yet. He also made that ever growing list of top picks.
Actually, that list would have been MUCH easier had we just listed ones we absolutely did not like. In which case, there would not have been a need for a list at all!
My daughter and I liked each and every horse we saw. If I left them off of this post, it’s only because of sensory overload. Funny, the ones at the top of this post are the ones we saw at the end of the day. Easier to recall the ones that are fresh in the memory bank.

To sum it all up, the quality of horses we saw was second to none, and the prices, well, these horses are a steal of a deal. Had we seen just three or four, it would be so much easier to pick the “one”. That whole “kid in a candy store” analogy rings true in this case.

Hope this post helps, for those of you sitting on the fence.

Oh, and the volunteers, holy cow they are amazing! FM trucked us around all morning, so many of the trainers/owners/grooms/staff all calling out friendly hellos!

Adding in one more thing: I think the most spoken phrase of the day about the horses was “oh my, he/she is Really nice!”[/QUOTE]

Oh and a special BIG THANKS to FM for taking the time to show us around. Very much appreciated and thank you to all the volunteers for all the hard work they put into finding these wonderful horses new homes.

You are very welcome! I had a blast yesterday!

so? was a decision made and a lucky FLF will make his way to Ottawa soon? Too many nice ones is no excuse to not make a decision!

Oh, why do I not have the time, money, and space to start a broodmare band? I could be well on my way just from the Finests…

Falseimpression, the jury is still out. Dancer, the mares, the mares. My throat gets tight and my heart heaves. Caninann, hit your stride, aracnaphobia, karakorum royale, dorothy’s essence, tough talk…oh my. And so many others fro, earlier in the year. Have to give a shout out for victorious devil…pretty, classy and a stellar racehorse. Please give all of these gals a closer look for the quality horses they are.

From what I understand, Tough Talk has been placed. The owner said he had a guy see her last Saturday and bought her on the spot. Did this fall through?

Someone needs to take home Hookedonsweetness… and tell me all about it… so fancy!!

I am getting conflicting information on Tough Talk. I saw his on-track caretaker at the track on Saturday and he told me only that she had gone to a farm and to contact Pete Colon (number on her listing). Maybe so, maybe no.

I spoke with Pete a few days ago and he said a man bought her last Saturday.

Lots of new adorable horses posted this weekend! Love these three:

LOVE the look of Hookedonsweetness!

Thanks for the input about about tough talk room. I sur hope she found a soft landing. Polo maybe? Would love to know her about her life after the track. Some of these horses need quick placememt and it is important to act quickly on the ones that speak to you. It can make all the difference in the world!

Just pulling this out and giving this guy another plug. I LOVE that face! He’s just huggable and precious. I think he’s more than earned a post-track life that includes lots of scritches and spoiling.

As usual, the listings get better every week. There are lots more I could plug, but I’ll let this war horse have the spotlight for now

In my opinion, Tricky Berak is one of the nicest horses we have listed not only this year, but in many years! Nice in terms of looks, conformation, movement, personality, soundness – the whole package. I am completely stumped as to why he has not been snapped up long ago, and as his price drops, he becomes in my book one of the true steals of any season. This one has very nice show hunter or event horse or dressage horse written all over him, and someone who can bring out his full potential just has to step up for him!
So why don’t I buy him if I love him so much, you might ask? Ummm, I have four horses, including three Finests, and no room at the inn or in the budget. But if end of race season comes and he is still looking for a home, I will just have to find a way to stash him somewhere.

I couldn’t agree with you more. Someone needs to SNATCH THIS GUY UP. And fast. I’d be interested to hear about him and where he goes. I can’t seem to get him off my mind since Saturday :frowning:

Bumping up this thread. Thanks to all who endorse favorites! Each and every one has a special appeal, to the extent that I could not possibly choose if I was in the market, which I am not…thanks heaven! I have been reading rports from the retired racehorse training project last weekend and am blown away by the excellence and versatility of ottbs. We provide that marketplace for exceptional thoroughbreds at a reasonable price. Win win,

I am trying SO hard to get Tricky Break into my Dad’s barn. I may just go grab him and give Dad a gift. I know Tricky Break would be perfect for us!

Keep us posted! I’ll be jealous of whoever gets him, that’s for sure!

^ Same here! Really hope someone on here gets him and keeps us posted. So wish I could have another one.
