Finger Lakes Finest 2013

We had two teams on the backside on Saturday and will be posting 9 new Finests to salivate over. They really run the gamut in color, size, temperament. There are two wonderful older warhorses with very impressive race records and oozing with class. I have a soft spot for the older campaigners, as I’ve reported ad nauseum, but these guys are plain bays as well. And I love plain bays! Al’s Lark is a 9 year old who is still competitive, having won $45,000 this year alone. He’s hit the board in 6 of 10 starts this year, which is as honest as a racehorse can be.

The other, Bedrock Blues, is a big, solid 8 y.o. gelding who needs just a little bit of time to further tighten up a small, high bow, but he will make an amazing mount for the lucky person who understands that bows like his are not long-term offenders.

We were well intentioned about getting new pics of Pressure Point, Lamster and Greenwood Boy but the weather was turning rather foul and it was making the horses kind of froggy. So sorry to make you wait a bit longer . We have a new volunteer who lives close and has generously offered to get pictures of them tomorrow when she is returning to the track with a friend to have a second look at one of the beauties she fell in love with on Saturday.

We saw two beautiful chestnuts in the same stable and the pictures of the gelding don’t do him justice. He’s a gorgeous animal and we are getting new pics of him as well. He happened to be one that was having his photo shoot when the rain really started to come down.

Rest assured you will not be disappointed!

Will there be videos available of all the new cute petite mares that were posted earlier in the week? (Tough Talk, Karakorum Royale, Victorious Devil)

Not that I’m looking…or have an empty stall perfect for winter let down due to miss R Lady in Blue going down to Steuart Pittman for the winter…

Our apologies GFaG: these girls are in the group whose videos have fallen victims of our volunteer’s Windows 8 gremlins. We could not get new videos on Saturday because a nasty windy rain storm blew in. We will keep on trying to get complete photo sets and videos for those that are lacking them. But since your stall won’t be empty for a little while…
Speaking of cute petite mares, wait til you see one from this past Saturday – Hit Your Stride. Flashy chestnut, built like a tank, very quiet sweetheart, cute mover. And we did get a video (but she was limited by a gimpy handler who could barely trot himself)!
Another new one who is a beautiful girl on the smaller side is the almost black Caninann. But you will have to wait for another week for a video of her – the wind up her tail and the rain pelting her face made her rather fussy about staying outside.

Up-at-5, try now! I find the management of PMs to be rather obtuse with this new format. I am so excited that you are coming for a visit soon. And I hope you’re bringing a trailer! If you come during the week I will take time off from work.[/QUOTE]

Most excellent! Check your in box:cool:

Capitol Gain, yum! What a looker!

Bumping up, and adding : this guy deserves a look! http://fingerlakesfinesttbs.com/bedrock-blues-8-year-old-dark-bay-16-3-gelding/

Agreed! Gorgeous!

Jeez, Naked Truth, this is not the time to start running like your tail is on fire. 1st and 2nd in his last two starts, bad gorgeous pony!

Shameless bump up:D
I do like to see this thread on page one at all times!
So, fellow COTH members, we are heading up to FL track to look at some horses, not for me, for a friend. Who do you think we should look at? Friend is tall, needs some height in her new horse. Open to anything, she wants to do some hunter/jumper stuff, and if I can convince her, maybe some dressage too.
Who are your current favourite picks?

So what lucky individual got Pay The Judge?

Hey up-at-5 - you better check out Stay High Stanley, my pick of the week!

Ooh, did Pay the Judge get picked up??? Sure hope so!

Finger Lakes Finest Thoroughbreds will be participating in the Retired Racehorse Training Project TB Makeover event at Pimlico in Baltimore MD. Oct. 5 -6. We will be one of the not for profit OTTB placement groups with a booth, to promote the wonderful horses available at Finger Lakes, and we will be cheering on FL Finest Bold Vindication, one of the 26 horses selected for the TB Makeover.
If you would like to attend this exciting event featuring the multiple talents of OTTBs, you can get a 10% discount on tickets by entering the code “fingerlakes” at checkout from the “purchase tickets” link on the RRTP website.

What a great group from this weekend! There is even a darling track pony in the mix. Now is the time to strike while the iron is hot. And please do not neglect the savory bits from weeks and months ago. The intrepid warhorses are beckoning! Timex, we would love to hear from the lucky person who scored pay the judge! I loff him! om

Ok - I think we finally have all of the horses from last week up with working photos and video for those that have videos. The track pony is so tempting and a very loud paint. There is a colt that is literally and figuratively a “stud muffin”. Yet again, it is not an ugly bunch. Only financial sense/limitations and the threat of a divorce  keep me from bringing home some more.

Never Naked came home with me for my friend. I was asked to find her a nice horse and she and I agreed he was lovely…I picked him up on Wednesday… He’s a doll, level headed and a real sweetie. Thanks so much to his trainer, Phyliss (who is awesome) as well as Lucinda at FLF.

MintHill - Congrats to your friend! He was one of the ones I really liked from the listings, but my daughter fell in love with (and brought home) a different FLF. There are so many lovelies to choose from. I do hope you get your friend to post pics… .

Thanks, Chism! She is so excited  I am for her as well…I was thrilled to get him for her…

Up-at-5 and the Canadian entourage had a terrific shopping trip on the backside and at several barns this morning. I don’t know how anyone could make a choice out of the many horses we looked at, each as special in its own way as the last.
Standouts are Lamster, Bedrock Blues, Prince Cody, Cougar Hunter, Tricky Break, Pegasus Evzone, Stay High Stanley, Pressure Point, Mr. Flashy and the adorable colt Siero. We also got to watch the adorable track pony, Silverado, playing chase with his pasture mate!

As they make their way back north, I’m sure they have a lot to talk about!

We also were informed that Tough Talk has been moved to a farm about an hour or so from the track and she has new contact information. We had been informed that she was sold but I’m not certain that that’s the case and she may still be available. I have asked our website administrator to update the contact name and number for her.

We also obtained more placement news which includes Glory Be Thy Name, Googly, Gandomble, Tatooed by Rick and That’s Vista Girl.

For all of you considering a trip here to find your favorite in person, the volunteers are available to show you around and help with navigating the rather vast backside.

We hope that we continue to hear updates from all of the Finests who have moved on to bigger and better things!

I’m finally rested enough to post on what we saw during our tour. After over 8 hours in the car, and a full 5 or so hours at the track, I am zonked!
Lot’s of standouts this year, in regards to the quality of horses available. For those of you on the fence, or worried about having to buy without actually seeing the horse in person, rest assured. The horses all presented in person just as their write ups on the FLF listings describe. Our shopping buddy was the one actually looking to buy, but my daughter and I sure did develop our own “short”(and I use the word short loosely, it’s more like a LONG list) of horses we would be proud to have in our barn.

Tricky Break: what a sweetheart! And such a lovely all around drop dead gorgeous horse! Clean legs, classic looking TB,cutest head ever, and his eye, omg his eye! His eyes are what sold us before we even had a chance to drool over the rest of him.Exactly the type I covet. Great mover, just an all 'round nice, nice horse. He really loves people, loved his scritches and just hanging out with us. Obviously very well cared for. Sign me up as one of his fans! Whoever gets this horse will be very happy, and for those that sit on the fence, this will be the “one who got away”. I don’t think I will ever forget this nice guy. Darnit, I wish we had sold our farm so I could have more room to add this horse to the roster.:frowning:

Lamster: how can you not love that name?! Lammy is all of the above^ Another gorgeous animal obviously very much loved and cared for. Again, all of the above. What more can I say. I’d snap him up in a heartbeat!

Cougar Hunter: :lol, yes, we all thought that kind of “cougar”! Except FM, she kept things on the up and up, claiming to not have thought that about his name! His name suits, he’s the type of horse that will attract many a horsewoman, he’s a handsome young fellow:D Much nicer in real life than in his pics, which is what I will say now about each and every horse we saw. Photos are very well done, but in the flesh, the wow factor really pops out. We loved this horse, and again, welcome in my barn any time.

Bedrock Blues: Solid, sporty looking animal. The kind I also covet( yes, I covet them all it seems). He is another type that we just love. Full of life, personality, and so much to offer. Digressing a bit, but when one has to look at these horses, you must look beyond what you see at that given moment. Or beyond what you see in a photo. This is a nice horse, who was a real sport about being hauled out of his stall and asked to jog pretty for the people. We all really liked this fellow. Lovely kind eye and great conformation, nice mover, looks like he could do just about anything that is asked from him.

Stay High Stanley: was anything but “high”! Calm. calm, calm, another who made our short(long) list. I think he was the first horse we saw. His demeanor is to die for, he was just hangin’ out, taking it all in, la di da, alert and interested, but not a wingnut. He’s a nice looking horse with a lovely head and a kind eye. I liked this horse a lot.

Pressure Point: another looker, fantastic mover, big bodied horse, great attitude. We bought our Oughta Be a Jet from the same connections, very nice people who take excellent care of their charges. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy from these folks again, they’re good people.

Prince Cody was nice from what I recall, I may have been having a smoke(must quit soon) when the girls looked at him. Same with a few of the others, Pegasus Evzone was another really nice one, not sure why he has not been snapped up yet. He also made that ever growing list of top picks.
Actually, that list would have been MUCH easier had we just listed ones we absolutely did not like. In which case, there would not have been a need for a list at all!
My daughter and I liked each and every horse we saw. If I left them off of this post, it’s only because of sensory overload. Funny, the ones at the top of this post are the ones we saw at the end of the day. Easier to recall the ones that are fresh in the memory bank.

To sum it all up, the quality of horses we saw was second to none, and the prices, well, these horses are a steal of a deal. Had we seen just three or four, it would be so much easier to pick the “one”. That whole “kid in a candy store” analogy rings true in this case.

Hope this post helps, for those of you sitting on the fence.

Oh, and the volunteers, holy cow they are amazing! FM trucked us around all morning, so many of the trainers/owners/grooms/staff all calling out friendly hellos!

Adding in one more thing: I think the most spoken phrase of the day about the horses was “oh my, he/she is Really nice!”
