I’m finally rested enough to post on what we saw during our tour. After over 8 hours in the car, and a full 5 or so hours at the track, I am zonked!
Lot’s of standouts this year, in regards to the quality of horses available. For those of you on the fence, or worried about having to buy without actually seeing the horse in person, rest assured. The horses all presented in person just as their write ups on the FLF listings describe. Our shopping buddy was the one actually looking to buy, but my daughter and I sure did develop our own “short”(and I use the word short loosely, it’s more like a LONG list) of horses we would be proud to have in our barn.
Tricky Break: what a sweetheart! And such a lovely all around drop dead gorgeous horse! Clean legs, classic looking TB,cutest head ever, and his eye, omg his eye! His eyes are what sold us before we even had a chance to drool over the rest of him.Exactly the type I covet. Great mover, just an all 'round nice, nice horse. He really loves people, loved his scritches and just hanging out with us. Obviously very well cared for. Sign me up as one of his fans! Whoever gets this horse will be very happy, and for those that sit on the fence, this will be the “one who got away”. I don’t think I will ever forget this nice guy. Darnit, I wish we had sold our farm so I could have more room to add this horse to the roster.
Lamster: how can you not love that name?! Lammy is all of the above^ Another gorgeous animal obviously very much loved and cared for. Again, all of the above. What more can I say. I’d snap him up in a heartbeat!
Cougar Hunter: :lol, yes, we all thought that kind of “cougar”! Except FM, she kept things on the up and up, claiming to not have thought that about his name! His name suits, he’s the type of horse that will attract many a horsewoman, he’s a handsome young fellow:D Much nicer in real life than in his pics, which is what I will say now about each and every horse we saw. Photos are very well done, but in the flesh, the wow factor really pops out. We loved this horse, and again, welcome in my barn any time.
Bedrock Blues: Solid, sporty looking animal. The kind I also covet( yes, I covet them all it seems). He is another type that we just love. Full of life, personality, and so much to offer. Digressing a bit, but when one has to look at these horses, you must look beyond what you see at that given moment. Or beyond what you see in a photo. This is a nice horse, who was a real sport about being hauled out of his stall and asked to jog pretty for the people. We all really liked this fellow. Lovely kind eye and great conformation, nice mover, looks like he could do just about anything that is asked from him.
Stay High Stanley: was anything but “high”! Calm. calm, calm, another who made our short(long) list. I think he was the first horse we saw. His demeanor is to die for, he was just hangin’ out, taking it all in, la di da, alert and interested, but not a wingnut. He’s a nice looking horse with a lovely head and a kind eye. I liked this horse a lot.
Pressure Point: another looker, fantastic mover, big bodied horse, great attitude. We bought our Oughta Be a Jet from the same connections, very nice people who take excellent care of their charges. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy from these folks again, they’re good people.
Prince Cody was nice from what I recall, I may have been having a smoke(must quit soon) when the girls looked at him. Same with a few of the others, Pegasus Evzone was another really nice one, not sure why he has not been snapped up yet. He also made that ever growing list of top picks.
Actually, that list would have been MUCH easier had we just listed ones we absolutely did not like. In which case, there would not have been a need for a list at all!
My daughter and I liked each and every horse we saw. If I left them off of this post, it’s only because of sensory overload. Funny, the ones at the top of this post are the ones we saw at the end of the day. Easier to recall the ones that are fresh in the memory bank.
To sum it all up, the quality of horses we saw was second to none, and the prices, well, these horses are a steal of a deal. Had we seen just three or four, it would be so much easier to pick the “one”. That whole “kid in a candy store” analogy rings true in this case.
Hope this post helps, for those of you sitting on the fence.
Oh, and the volunteers, holy cow they are amazing! FM trucked us around all morning, so many of the trainers/owners/grooms/staff all calling out friendly hellos!
Adding in one more thing: I think the most spoken phrase of the day about the horses was “oh my, he/she is Really nice!”
