Finger Lakes Finest 2013
We know who the lucky horse is and who the lucky person is as well! But we will wait for this person to post here to share the good news. :D
That’s me!!! I took home Midnight Tucker - he has been positively amazing and I wanted to thank everyone at FLF who helped me, especially Lucinda. Loading him up was a small fiasco on its’ own (I won’t lie, he escaped the hauler and I had to catch him!) but other than that tiny hiccup which was the hauler’s fault (to be blunt) he has been PERFECT. He is fabulous and I cannot wait to spend more time with him! I feel like my fluttering about him may be annoying, but thus far he has been so unflappable.

ETA: I should add anyone who was even remotely interested in Dade City should go and look at him immediately. I saw him in person and he was one of the more remarkable horses I saw that day. I really liked his trot and he was so QUIET - was more interested in sniffing some poop on the pavement than paying attention to the hub-bub about him. IIRC, he is currently stalled and not running - so he was a little “stiff” when initially taken out and asked to trot. Despite this he had a really nice trot and I think with some time off would be an excellent sport horse.

Yay you!!! Congratulations. You understand, of course, that regular updates with pictures are part and parcel of owning a Finest?!

Another Finest left the track on Saturday as well: Ming’s Revenge!! He is in the NYC area being retrained as an eventing mount.

ahem - posting new listings without photos is just mean

scrunches head into shoulders like a guilty dog

I know - the photos are being uploaded by one volunteer (with a family and day job) and it takes longer to upload photos than chunks of text. I was trying to be efficient but turned out I was being “mean”. There are a couple I can’t wait to see photos on myself since I did not see them in person. I promise to stay up late as soon as they arrive and get it dealt with.

you give descriptions such as
"This dainty girl is only about 15.2 hh but has a much larger presence. She is very nicely put together and was full of dapples on this dreary day "
and
"As all 15.1 hands of this diminutive gal stepped out of the barn I couldn’t help but exclaim “cute”!

with names like “Victorious Devil”

I am soooooo curious to see their photos

[thank you and the others for all your good works!]

I have to admit, I too have been impatiently checking the site on an hourly basis to see pictures of this tiny, cute, chromey chestnut filly!

Even though I am sitting at my 9-5 desk job and can only assume the one with the photos is doing the same.

Same here!

Jane Rain - Blast From the Past:

Jane Rain, who was an FLF from 2012 came home with me tonight.
Here’s the story; Years ago, I was present when the original owner/breeder/trainer was registering several youngsters with the Jockey Club. I believe he had 3 to register and was having the Horse Identifier at Finger Lakes take care of it online for him. He was trying to come up with names on the spot and I thought of a lovely young lady from Russia who had lived /worked with the racehorses that summer in a kind of “foreign exchange” student capacity. She had never really been around horses before that, but with her pluckiness and determination, she learned so much, and managed to do very well working with and caring for the horses on R&R farm. She even took riding lessons while she was here.
Since we both knew her, I suggested that the trainer name one of his youngsters after her. Her given name was Evgenia, but her nickname was Jane Rain, and so he named the 2006 gr/roan Artax x Mer Babe filly: “Jane Rain”.
Since that time I followed her career and kept an eye out for where she might land after her racing days. When she showed up listed for free on craigslist I decided it was time to step up.
She loaded & travelled like a pro, and when we got home, she backed off the trailer like a sweetheart. It was a bit late when she arrived, but while she was munching hay in her stall I gave her a nice little grooming. However, as I continued to groom her, I started having some concerns. Could she be pregnant?!?
Oh well, I’ll look into that soon enough. In the meantime, I’m happy for the chance to welcome Jane home.

Aww, Sue! What a nice story. I doubt that she would have fared well if you had not stepped up for her. I hope she turns out to be more than worth the wait.

So sorry for the delay in posting pics and vids from last Saturday. We are experiencing technical difficulties (e.g. softward) and our best-intentioned volunteer photog is tearing her curly hair out! We hope to have the problem rectified soon and get them up quickly but, barring that, we will have to take more photos on Saturday. We have enough volunteers helping that we will be able to have two teams on the walkabout. By next Monday or so you will have a bumper crop of Finests to drool over.

So sorry for making you wait!

Quick update on Badge of Red. He had his first ride tonight and was a complete gentleman! Just walk whoa walk whoa walk trot whoa, but he rode like an old school pony. Very happy with him! btw his new barn name is Tyson (Ty most of the time) I just couldn’t bring myself to call him Red.

I just posted some pictures for four of the horses from last week. These are temporary, but are to help alleviate the pain of waiting. One of our poor volunteers has fallen victim to Windows 8.

Tough Talk does not look like she could be a “little lady”. I really liked her. Glory and Victorious Devil are darn good looking as well and Karakorum Royale isn’t hard on the eyes either. We will keep working on getting the photos up.

WOWSA!
Someone please snatch up Tough Talk…I am in love

nice one RWO
Tough Talk is a tank - and I mean that in the very best sense
Glory Be is pretty glorious isn’t he

Wow, what nice pictures. Even though I was there IRL I see things in their pictures that I get to study a little more closely. These first three are really nice looking horses. Glory Be Thy Name is a hunk!

 Wow! Lots of gorgeous colts and fillies!

FM clear your INBOX!!!
Hoping to come down in a couple of weeks, need to talk to you.

Was someone looking for pictures from a couple years ago? I finally was able to get into the old photo account but now can’t remember the horse that was requested. I will go check the other FLF thread.

Just one so far tonight, with more to follow. In an effort to not be unfair, I am just posting as photos/videos come through and only putting up the complete listing.

However, this one should not be around for very long and is well worth the drooling (at least in my humble and biased opinion). http://fingerlakesfinesttbs.com/capital-gain

Up-at-5, try now! I find the management of PMs to be rather obtuse with this new format. I am so excited that you are coming for a visit soon. And I hope you’re bringing a trailer! If you come during the week I will take time off from work.
