First time doing a design clipping? Other cool ideas?

Not sure WHERE to post this, but you eventers seem more open to things like this

I ended up having to do it by hand and I’ve never done clipping except for bridle paths or trims, so I guess art classes paid off

What cool designs have you seen?

My friend just had a shark done on her horse, it’s intense.

How fun!

That’s almost the one I want for my horse, but a bit smaller. I’ve been told it’s difficult to get the lines just right because of the direction of the hair growth, did you have issues with that? And did you somehow draw it on first?

It is, it took forever. I think with a decent pair of clippers, it’s not that hard, but my clippers are a POS. I watched her walk and played around with my hands trying to find a good angle and spot. I was originally going to use a stencil, but it was harder with one.

Let’s see, last year among the school horses at my barn:

1 had a cocktail glass
1 had a state flag
1 had a flower
1 had a star

but the best one was a choo-choo train with 2 cars down his side. Because he’s the Little Engine that Can!

And yeah, it’s an eventing barn w/kids. The designs were all done by a pro who came to clip; she’s awesome.

Woah, a choo-choo train sounds awesome! That had to take a few hours.

Here’s Apollo’s. http://www.photoreflect.com/store/Orderpage.aspx?pi=0EBK00DR0L0138&po=138&pc=204

For me, the trick is definitely doing a stencil. I can just about manage hearts and initials freehand–nothing more complicated

It’s a tiki! My horse’s barn name is Tiki. My husband says it looks like a flowerpot, lol. It was fun, and I’ll get better at it.

I did a ā€œ$ā€ on Captains butt!

So clever, with his name! I love it!

Fun!!! Like the star!
I had a horse named Bud so once put a ā€˜B’ on his shoulder, a paw print on his bum and one year (I live in BC) did BCYR (for BC young riders) on his bum…it was really cute!

On another horse I had I put his name on his bum ā€˜Rum Cay’, although it was a bit tough due to straight lines plus he kept moving lol. Here’s a pic:

My cost is $25 if anyone in North Florida wants one done

My colors are Green, Orange and White, so Irish knots are fitting.

I’ve done these in the past:

No fair… Fleck’s an appy, so there’s no fun stuff in his butt! He comes with his own fun butt

But I would LOVE to do that… You guys did an awesome job with them and they turned out soooo cute!!!

TSH - those are gorgeous!

I confess I’m less likely to do designs now than when I was a YR and for a few years afterwards - back then my upper level horse had an exclamation point one year and a magician’s top hat/wand another (fit his show name). I might be a little embarrassed to put those on a horse of mine now though… However, I don’t mind seeing a beautiful, understated design on an otherwise lovely horse, but confess that I like the look of a stencil and one where the design is left and the hair around it is clipped out much more than one where the design is clipped into the hair (if that makes sense). If you do it, I always found that a fairly tough stencil (not just paper or cardboard) and a lot of patience is pretty critical - though if you hate it when you’re done you can always clip it off again.

Makes perfect sense (negative relief versus positive relief … when you ā€œleave hairā€ it’s a positive relief, and in the original photo, it appears the design has been ā€œclipped in,ā€ making it a negative relief). I am not of the design ilk for clipping, but I confess I LOVE the one TSHEventing included too!

my horse’s name is Wil’Ya Love Me…so i used to do a heart with a question mark in the middle. But then my coach at the time said if i wanted to be on a YR team it needed to go. So off it went. Can’t say I would clip it again…i’m all for a good set of quarter marks.

The reason I clipped it in is because I refuse to do a body clipping. I have a hard enough time keeping her weight on as it is, even with her gagillion blankets, I don’t need her to be nakey.

My horses registered name is Mamalicious, I can only imagine what I would have to clip into HER butt…

I usually do something on my guys each year…

Some of my Canadians…

We are having fun this year with various designs. Kelly got a 4 leaf clover. One got a lightning bolt - he immediately dumped his rider after that though! One year we had a bee - really cute. One little Arab named Star has a star. Think every horse is going to get something this year.

One year on a full Belgina draft we did a jack o lantern.

I am trying to figure out what to have done on my horse but nothing seems to fit. Presently thinking of an arrow (Indian style) as his sire is Cochise.

WOW You guys are REALLLLLYY good! Iam lucky if I can get a neat enough clip in general!!
