First time doing a design clipping? Other cool ideas?

During my lesson saturday, one of the younger girls in my group asked if that was a banana on my horses butt. We are no longer speaking!!

Ha ha!!! That’s hilarious

Thanks for the giggle

Hi Guys:
Love the clipping designs! I am trying to figure out what I want to do for my 2 guys. I want to find a design that fits there personality and their conformation. I have the following:

Rhapsody - 15.3 bay TB gelding. Show name Regal Decor. For his personality, he’s a sweetheart, but a bit of a spitfire. He is absolutely the love of my life.

Journey - 15 h bay Connemara/QH gelding. Show name Journeymans Houdini. He is a GREAT all around staff horse for beginner-advance riders. He is my cute and cuddly guy. I have had him since he was born.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Idea for Mamalicious!

How about a big pair of lips! Or the lips/tongue that is the Rolling Stones logo??

My horse is dapple gray, so I don’t think any of these cool designs would really show up :frowning:

I like to keep the designs on the simple side so that they read better from far away.

If you want to go with Rhapsody, I would do musical notes. If you prefer Regal Decor, I would do a crown. Judging by your description of his personality, I would do the crown!

Journeyman’s Houdini is harder. I would just go with something related to Journey since that is what he goes by. I found a cool logo of the word Journey (scroll down a bit). Also, what about a compass (see the one on the top right)? Or a compass rose (but you will have to think carefully about what to clip/not clip to give it the dimension). Here’s a good graphic for a suitcase as well.

Man, I LOVE procrastinating doing this!

You all inspired me and I did a design on my horse. Opted for as simple as possible and went with the Omega symbol, figured it encompassed the ultimate/end/optimal theme to her greek warrior princess name. It was also very simple for someone with a lack of artistic creativity, and for a spatially impaired individual. I figured the size I wanted and drew it on cardboard, which I then duct taped to her butt and clipped around it. I did the design with small clippers and it worked fine. Thanks so much for this thread!

Hope this encourages others to give it a try! One side for practice, and the other for real. I left both clipped and then picked which one I liked better. Go for it! If I pulled it off, anyone can!

i’m planning on doing this on Taffy’s butt

His show name is Mandalea Calico, so it doesn’t have anything to go with, so that’s what I’ve decided  I have an ODE in a week, so I’m going to cut the shape out on card and brush it into his coat

And I have my dressage club’s christmas comp in a couple of weeks, so i’m playing around with these to brush into his coat:

My 4 year old’s registered name is Feuerkracher, so he got a firecracker on one side:

And since his personality tends to be a little explosive, he got a caution sign on the other side:

FYI- I am a dressage rider and everyone that has seen him so far has laughed and complimented me, so even DQ’s can appreciate a sense of humor and the time it took to clip these! For the poster that’s boarding at a dressage barn- I say, go for it!!!

Wow! Those are all so cool! I kind of wish I hadn’t just clipped my guys so I could put a design on him! I have put hearts on them in the past but that is not even half as cool as some of these designs!

I talk about doing boxing gloves on Vernon (Vernon Tiger the human is a boxer), but A) I am NOT artistic and can’t see a straight line to save my life (why I usually end up doing full body clips instead of trace clips!) and B) I don’t know how well boxing gloves would actually come out…especially if I was doing it!

We once did turtles on a horse named Wurtle Turtle (they looked like dinosaurs…apparently none of us are artistic), and the odd initials have been clipped in for the hell of it.

I’m trying to decide if any of this would show up on a fairly light dappled grey horse. Once her trace clip grows out even a bit it’s not that noticeable that she’s clipped. Anyone want to weigh in?

At first I thought it was evil that someone bumped a post so old that I cannot see the cool clip jobs because the links do not work.
But then I got to the last page and saw the stuff that was added, very neat.

I have a hard time making a simple straight line when I trace clip my pony. I have no idea how you people do this detail stuff.

I did a rocket on my old guy (his barn name was Apollo). My dad insisted it looked like an upside down rabbit head. After that I stuck to hearts on the pony at work.

I’ve done a bee for a mare whose paddock name is Bee; the Hanoverian H for a Hanoverian, Audi rings on a friends horse who loves Audis (the friend, not the horse, haha), P in the superman shield for Super Pax.

I have zero talent in this department but I do envy the foxhunters beautiful fox faces clipped in. My fave was on an appy where they clipped a martini glass with one of his spots as an olive

I attempted an H with a Halo around it, it’s not the cleanest, but it’s still pretty cool and was fun to do.

My horses name is Halo (Halo Above Me), it seemed fitting

Wow!! These are amazing! How do you get it so finely done? What clippers did you use, love them!

@korolcomb for some reason I can’t quote your reply, but Wow!! These are amazing! How do you get it so finely done? What clippers did you use, love them!

Thanks! I’m using vet clippers and trimmer CODOS (Korean), very cheap clipper with ceramic knife
