I can no longer swing my leg over saddles with high cantles, what options do I have? Tks
There’s the flattest-of-the-flat, the Tad Coffin CCD: https://www.tadcoffinsaddles.com/dressage-saddle/
Others that come to mind are the Neidersuss Symphonie and the Frank Baines Cadence.
Stubben Romanus
The Albion SL is pretty flat
Passier Relevant
Black Country saddles or Fairfax
I have a pristine one of these that I’d like to sell. I also have some minimalist Stubben Tristan Specials. PM me if you are interested, OP. These certainly have low cantles. A Tad Coffin is the lowest thing out there. You might also like a Lauriche. Their maker, Andy Foster, is no longer alive, so you have to find used ones.
Butet.
I have found the Karl Niedersuss Symphonie to be rather flat. I also tried a Fairfax that was flat. I want to say Black Country and/or Ideal make flatter saddles too.
Or you can try a working equitation saddle. Not quite dressage, but they’re flatter. Normally used on cobs. Popular in the UK.
The Wintec Pro. It’s flatter than the Tad Coffin picture above.
Dude! You’re going to have to show me that. I think I have seen a Wintec Pro and I don’t see how one of those can be flatter than a Tad Coffin. The man builds $6K bareback pads with stirrups. Love them. Want one. But I don’t think there’s anything flatter out there. Do you have a picture of the Wintec Pro you are talking about?
I’ve been holding on to my 2000 CCD for old times sake but I never use it. If you really want one… let me know.
I’ll add Frank Baines Capriole to the list. …open seat, low pommel and cantle.

The Coffin also looks like it would tilt back on a lot of horses because it doesn’t have much support under the cantle. In that picture above, the way it is sitting on the horse, the rider would by sitting in the back with legs behind the panel.
Maybe if you get a bigger size, it looks flatter. And it certainly a lot cheaper than a $6 k bareback pad!
Lol no. This is a Tad Coffin CCD. It is a jump seat with straight flaps on it, and as flat as a pancake. Which is why they’re so exceedingly rare. The one in the link is the TC2 which is his version of a deep seat. The wintec is twice as deep, easily.
There are many saddles with lower cantles and if ordering a new UK saddle, you can often specifically ask for the cantle to be lower.
Or, taller mounting block? Raising your stirrups before you get off (assuming you keep your foot in one stirrup until you get your other leg on the same side)? I get not wanting to wrestle yourself out of the pocket of a really deep dressage saddle, but seems like you might sacrifice some of your security with a flatter saddle. If you’re already dealing with flexibility or mobility issues then security and a saddle that helps you stay on the top side of your horse seems like it’d be important. Just a thought. Hope you find something that works for you!
And just for kicks— The N2 Cardhu is the opposite of the low cantle saddle. I test-drove one and scraped my thigh on it swinging my leg over… got a little Cold Tingly on the back of my neck. My body knew that if anything when really wrong, I was not going to get out of that saddle and off the wild horse easily.
Here’s a picture:http://www.n2saddlery.com/all-products/cardhu/
That’s by far the tallest-cantled saddle I have ever sat in. it was weird how my body said No before I even thought about it or rode in it.
Older passiers are very flat and can be found for a steal these days.
MVP, that N2 Cardhu is just strange looking. Might be a good fit for some PARA riders who need that kind of support.
I love me an old Passier saddle!
