FLEUR DE LIS H.-GII

The winner of this Graded Stakes race yesterday was bred by our own LaurieB.

A big shout out and congrats!

The statistical odds of breeding a horse to win just an “average” stakes race are quite long. A Graded stakes race MUCH longer.

Even with a decent size broodmare band of reasonable quality. There are so many intangible things that a breeder can not control.

I saw that yesterday, so exciting! I know it isn’t easy but it seems like every year Laurie is breeding to the Who’s Who of the breeding shed so it’s not a huge surprise that she hit a homerun eventually. Congrats Laurie!

OMG - how wonderful!! :applause::applause: Congratulations!

Well done!!

Congrats LaurieB!

Congrats Laurie!

Must be because you have a good vet and a good farrier.

Saw that in TDN this morning.

Congratulations Laurie B! Were you there to watch?

Thank you! It was a huge thrill. The fact that she’s the third generation of her family that we own makes it even better.

Her trainer (Al Stall, Jr.) and owners (Klaravich and William H. Lawrence) have done a great job with her. It took some time for her to get everything right but when she did it was well worth the wait.

Congratulations LaurieB! You must be so proud, and rightfully so. There isn’t much harder to do than breed a horse that rises to the top of the game.

Congratulations, very exciting

I checked the results at Churchill, with all of those good stakes, including this race with Untapable. Remember seeing Klaravich and Lawrence owned the winner, but didn’t know the breeder was you, LaurieB!

Congrats!! :applause:

Congratulations Laurie! Well done.

Congratulations, Laurie! To have bred a graded stakes winner is a great accomplishment. For her to have beaten a champion in the process is pretty neat too.

Congrats Laurie!

I’m a bit late, but wanted to add my Congrats! Any idea if her owners/trainer will be shooting for the Breeders Cup, now that she’s guaranteed a spot?

According to her trainer, she is on her way to Saratoga now. Since she is already pre-qualified and pre-entered, I would think that her connections would very much like to run her in the BC if she is healthy and sound.

This is one of my favorite “baby pictures” of her, with her dam, Shriek, whom we also bred. http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h245/LaurienB/Candy-4-13-12_zpsilb3iwu0.jpg

That photo is precious! Go baby go!

Wow, how exciting! Let’s get her name out there: Paid Up Subscriber by Candy Ride out of Shriek.

Question to LaurieB: Why does that article have “(SP)” after Shriek’s name? A typo, or does it mean something other than birthplace?

I can’t imagine the adrenaline rush and excitement watching a horse you bred win a race like that. I just about died standing at the rail watching my mare’s full nephew win a Grade I race, and I felt as proud as if I had had something to do with it. It was one of the most exciting moments of my life.

It is exciting isn’t it?

Laurie, will you give us a reminder close to the time that she is entered to run again?

Such a lovely photo.

The “(SP)” after Shriek’s name means that she was stakes placed. She actually won that stakes race (the listed Safely Kept S. at Arlington) but was placed 2nd because her jockey’s whip touched the filly that finished second behind her. The jockey on the filly that was moved up apologized to us afterward and told us there was no way his filly was going to go by us–but the touch was enough to take us down and he had to do what was right for his owners. [long needless explanation about racing luck. ]
