Thank you, everyone! I’m pretty smitten with this little one. She’s super laid back and outgoing already, just like her big sister.

@ThreeWishes, here’s a link to my Facebook page. The baby photos/videos are public, so you should be able to see them: https://www.facebook.com/grey.parks/.

Yesterday was orphan Lee’s last day with his Igloo. He is officially a weanling now. He missed his milk a little this morning, but more as a matter of routine than actual hunger. He’s up to eating 1qt beet pulp, 1.5lbs milk pellets, and 0.5lb ration balancer twice a day. We’ll slowly transition to more ration balancer and less milk pellets.

I will say, it’s been the easiest weaning day I’ve ever had! No fence running, no screaming, no one is upset…just a happy, well adjusted foal out with his friends.

I haven’t added it all up, but 4 months of milk replacer probably cost about $1500. A commercial nurse mare from ColdSpring was $3500. Having a nurse mare may have been easier-- I wouldn’t have needed to mix milk and scrub the cooler twice a day-- but I think Lee has done alright. His physical and mental development is on par with most others his age. It helps that we have a happy herd of mares and foals for him to learn how to Horse.

Well, I can’t believe it happened this fast, but baby Etta is SOLD! I just accepted a signed contract and deposit on her. She’ll be going to one of my former students (from my time in academia) and will only be living a couple of hours away from me, but I’m still a little emotional. I never expected my first homebred to get snapped up so quickly! sniff sniff

He’s adorable, looks like he’s right where he needs to be.

@Montanas_Girl, I’m smitten too. Lovely movement, and Arielle looks great too.

It’s been very hot and humid here, so baby Etta got body clipped last week. It’s been about a decade since I did one myself versus hiring someone, so the result is more utilitarian than aesthetic. But she was a perfect little angel for the process. She’s 7 weeks old now, and I’m so pleased to find that her brain is every bit as excellent as her big sister’s.

Thought you guys might enjoy this photo of her in her wooly leggings. Lol.

It’s already weaning time here. First group said goodbye to mamas on Wednesday July 7. Separated mares (Sheza, Bella, and Entice) into the field next door, sharing a fenceline with electric. Very easy process, no screaming or panic. Bella, in particular, seems to enjoy her baby-less freedom!

Jaws was weaned a little earlier last week, as his dam went off to be a recip mare.

Oh my goodness, EventerAJ! How can it be time for that already? Would you mind to remind us who is whose foal again? I know Lee is Humorlee’s orphan.

Taco is a filly by Saketini out of Bella Veloche (2/27).
Jaws is by Khozan out of Could Be For Real (2/19).
Jolly is by St Patrick’s Day out of Entice (2/27).
Bonsai is by Saketini out of Shezagreatgal (1/25).
Lee is by St Patrick’s Day out of Humorlee (1/25).

Bonsai is probably the nicest foal on the farm, he is just stunning physically: great balance, size, correct, and a classy face. I’m pretty proud of how my little sport TBs look as good (or better!) than the commercial race breds out of much more expensive mares. Though I do really love the St Patrick’s Day foals, I would be happy to keep any of them as future eventers.
