What a cute little face! Congratulations!
Oh my goodness! No wonder mama was uncomfortable for a while! Those legs were probably poke-y. But he looks worth the wait.
PS, I love what I see of Mama!
Rocky is adorable! I’m so happy for you that everything went perfectly after she kept you in suspense so long.
Ummmmm all I can say is Skweeeeee! Rocky is gorgeous. Those eyelashes.
Rocky and mom are super cute! Glad everyone looks happy and healthy. They certainly like keeping us in suspense, at least when they aren’t surprising us.
Thank you. Momma was a 2* eventer and a 1.20 jumper before she was injured
Sydney is playing maiden mare games with me today (day 329). She just about as loose and relaxed behind as she can get at this point. Her udder does not look entirely full, but she had a tiny bead of amber “not quite wax” at both the morning and evening feeding today:
The fluid in her udder is still mostly clear and yellow, though it is cloudier today than yesterday. The pH has dropped below 8, though, so she has my attention:
I really don’t think she’s there yet, but it does feel like she might be in a bit of a hurry to get there. She’s keeping me on my toes, true to form.
Sydney reached the “shiny udder” stage by about 8 pm last night, so I went ahead and put straw down in her stall, just in case. She had a very restless/uncomfortable spell between 3 and 4 am (isn’t that always how it goes)? She has little amber beads on both teats now, and the pH seems to be coming down. The actual fluid I was able to express this morning was still mostly clear/yellow but very, very, very sticky.
I have the feeling she’s going to be one of those maidens who doesn’t drop her actual colostrum until right at foaling. Aren’t these types fun? I’ll give her a bath once it warms up today and keep making preparations. I still really feel like we’ve got another day or two to go, but I absolutely do not trust her.
Love that second pic. “What, were you waiting on me or something?”
Anyone ever had a mare drop to a pH in the low 7s while the “milk” is still gooey/sticky and yellow?
I’m not entirely sure what miss Sydney has up her sleeve, but we are expecting severe storms tomorrow. I’d be eternally grateful if she would hold off until Wednesday. Which the color of her milk says is very possible, but her mother usually foals within about 36 hours of her pH dipping this low, so…
At least I work in the feed industry. No one batted an eye when I told them I’d be on “mare-ternity” leave this week.
We’re supposed to get the bottom edge of those storms. Much less severe and I’m hoping they’ll finally trigger something here or at least one of us is going to explode! I hope they don’t end up too bad where you are and that you don’t have too long to wait for your foal! I thanked my other mare yesterday for how textbook and easy she has been the last couple of years. I didn’t appreciate that enough until now! Haha
Checking on Hop, @Arzny! Is she really still holding that baby? I know you do tax work, but just getting a little nervous from across the 'webs.
Sorry to be cryptic.
No news that I can share with the group yet.
Ok. for good news or you if you need them for something unfortunate. Just wanted to let you know we’re still thinking about you guys.

We venture a little farther on our walks and let him visit with the other horses since he still hasn’t been cleared for turnout. Hopefully soon because he wants to be wild!
Look at him being brave in the water puddle! Can’t really blame him for being stir crazy by now; I hope you get clearance to let him go out and play soon. You’ve done a truly amazing job getting him to this point.
Oh my gosh, look at him being an adorable little crazy thing.
But he is learning so much. Going in water and such.
Our other mare is 335 days today and we will be out visiting this weekend (she’s in another state)… hoping we get to meet baby!
