Thank you! His owner came to meet him for the first time a few weeks ago (he was sold in utero). She was thrilled with him! He’s a lovely mover and she hopes he will make a good eventer someday.
What a little gentleman!
It looks like Arielle might have finally decided to ovulate. . One of the 33 mm follicles is showing broken down walls and fluid swirls. She’s still in strong heat with good edema and a wide open cervix, so the vet wants to keep her through at least tomorrow to see if she’s going to double (or triple!) ovulate. The second dose of semen from Monday’s collection was still at 55% motility this morning; hopefully the swimmers inside her are equally vigorous.
My vet is an eternal pessimist, but I’m choosing to be cautiously optimistic at this point. I’ll feel better if she does, in fact, double ovulate, since this cycle was a bit out of the norm for her.
Please send fertility vibes. This doesn’t make me super excited about gearing up to try to breed the new mare…
Arielle did for sure ovulate. Whew. Going to check her one more time in the morning to see if she’s going to ovulate one of the other follicles.
He’s a chonky fella, and very handsome! I can’t wait for more updates.
What a leggy girl. Talk about the perfect name!
Beautiful mare and foal, and what a wonderful barn!
Heidi sure does look like a little supermodel.
Pix two days ago of my two mares and their foals. They have 24/7 in and out privileges
This is Rizada and her filly, Roslyn…who is three weeks old
And this is Brenna and her colt, Hazel-rah. He is almost four weeks old.
Hazel-rah!
From one of my very favorite books of all time
Here’s a slightly more flattering photo of the new girl, now that she’s had her hooves done for the first time in what looked like 9-12 months…(And, yes, her tail really is chopped off that short; I imagine it was as matted as her mane was so the seller chopped it off right before she was picked up - it’s too even to have been chewed.)
I didn’t have a handler, so she’s kind of camped out behind and leaning over her front end. But it’s a much more accurate representation of her than the fuzzy one from her first day here.
It’s an interesting study in genetics to compare her to Arielle, who is by the same stallion but out of a more old-fashioned mare line.
She looks beautiful!
It won’t take long for it to grow out, at least it is not like the forelock.
Is that dirt on her legs or blemishes?
It’s white/gray hair. Not sure if they came from minor injuries or just her age (she has quite a bit of gray on her head as well, plus some white hairs in her mane).
That makes sense
I was on foal watch this morning. She went into labor but things did not progress well. Foal was in a breech position and ultimately I lost not only my foal but also my mare.
Hug your mares and foals for me. 4 years of trying for a foal and this was the result
I’m so terribly sorry. {{{{Hugs}}}} to you.
