I think it is supposed to be good for up to 700 feet? It’s been so long since I purchased it that I’m not entirely sure. My barn is only about 200 feet or so from my kitchen window (where the receiver was when I took that photo), which is the best spot in the house. The signal varies depending on the specific room that I’m in. I think there are newer models by this brand that are now advertised to work up to 900-1000 feet away, though.
Thanks! Definitely something I will look into if I decide to foal a mare out at my place in the future. Last year I paid for a foaling service and it was the best money spent for a maiden mare and nervous first time breeder
I do think Hop will foal tonight. She looked very close last night and storms are rolling in this evening. It’s DH’s night to watch her, but I’ll stay close!
Oooooohhh!!!
Any updates on Fuegolito or any other littles?
Yes, updates please… Not expecting this year, waiting very patiently for May to roll around so i can start prepping to breed my mare, so i’m living vicariously through you guys… updates/booby pics/baby pics, anything - please!!
Good luck @Arzny!
Hope everyone else’s mares and foals are doing well. I’ve been thinking especially of little Fuego!
Day 306 here so nothing interesting to report just yet!
Day 297 here. Sydney looks like she may explode before this baby gets here.
She started slowly bagging up around day 285 - same day Katie Van Slyke’s mare foaled a live colt at 286 days (check her social media if you’re not familiar with this crazy story!), which was not good for my nerves. Sydney is not bagging up quickly enough to make me think placentitis but enough to make me highly skeptical that she’s going to hold out until her 4/10 “due” date. Day 320 is 3/21…
Her mother milks like a Jersey; apparently she inherited those same genes! For her mother, this would be a very normal udder for this point in gestation, but with a maiden? I’m chewing my fingernails already. The vet will be here a week from today to open her Caslick.
Fuego’s hind legs have improved significantly since he’s had the glue-ons. We are still using some little custom bootie things the vet hospital made to support him in front, but he is out-growing them so I think we are going to try glue-ons for his fronts too within the next few days. We have an appointment March 9th for some follow-up X-rays to see how his knees and hocks have developed. A friend of mine sent him a buddy to cuddle with.
Fuego looks great so glad he’s continuing to improve! And thanks for sharing photo with his cuddle buddy that’s beyond cute
Look at Fuego struttin’!! And then killing us with kyoot cuddles with his bear!
Wonderful update on Fuego! Thank you for sharing the pictures.
Thanks everybody for rooting for him! I have never seen a horse with as much try as this guy already has. From day 1 even when he was so tiny and floppy, he wanted to live. We have another mare due early April so hopefully that one will be nice and uneventful.
I know I just did an update but wanted to share a picture with his new shoes. Throughout this ordeal I’ve spent hours online trying to find any similar stories and every positive one really helped encourage us. I’ve also found different ideas to try that may or not be helping (like the k-tape) but I want to try everything we can. I hope no one else has to deal with everything we have, but if so, hopefully he can be a little encouragement. There have been a lot more stages than this (at the hospital he spent some time in splints, etc) but here’s a comparison picture of right after he came home compared to last night with his new shoes.
And a bonus picture from the process
Wow! The difference is amazing! Just wow!
And the photo of him getting his feet done is a wonderful bonus.
Is he always a ham or sedated and that is why he looks like he is playing with you all?
He’s not sedated, he’s so used to humans messing with him that when he’s laying down, he doesn’t care what’s happening! He cracks me up
Those front legs look gorgeous! (There’s also no such thing as too many updates). And the upside down front teeth pic? Gooberlicious!
Upside down front teeth on the teddy bear!!
Just WOW on the improvement!
Look at those toofers! Could eat corn cob through a picket fence!
Thanks for the updates, and glad he’s improving!
