he be wee but fierce! haha he is the most adorable bobble head
That tid bit of knowledge really makes me appreciate nursing queens even more. All those little claws nursing and kneading away!
That video made me laugh - I guess I would not enjoy being awakened by someone sticking tiny needley little claws in me either!
mamas really are saints aren’t they? The fact that mamas have to simulate their babies and clean their lil booties with their tongue, protect them and keep them warm with their bodies, and teach them how to ‘cat’ is a lot.
One of the feral queens I fostered was YOUNG, very small and just really still kitten herself, but she was the best mama. She had the best 4 kittens, and when the other feral mom had to go to the vet for a burst abscess on her teat (talk about ouch!) This mama took charge of that other mama’s 4 babies. For 2 days she had 8 kittens in her care and never once hesitated to nurse or care for the visiting babies (the litters were born 2 days apart). The visiting 4 kittens even gained weight on her watch, and went back to their mama when she returned from her vet stay.
I love your appreciation for mommas. I have a sign that says “blessed be the broodmares” in my foaling barn. I’ve never appreciated a horse like I have until I owned and bred my first saintly broodmare. What an experience. Cheers to ALL the fluffy mommas.
Hah, some of them are not mom of the year material! My last foster mom (catten, of course) was of the mindset that those were the worst 30 seconds of her life. A girl goes out partying one night, meets a smooth talker and wham bam thank you ma’am, 6 little heathens to nurse. She’s the poster child for spay neuter.
HA ha very true! I think in all species their are some who are more cut out fur motherhood than others.
Little guy is 4 weeks old now and is just over 1 pound. He is part Jaws and part Cujo, way too full of energy and bitey! He and the dog are obsessed with each other.
He finally had normal poop for the first time two days ago and immediately the pendulum seems to have swung the other way because now he isn’t pooping at all. Gah! A whole lotta food going in and nothing coming out. He’s a wild man, eating like a pig and running around playing like mad so he certainly seems to feel fine. He’s still on a little formula mixed in with wet food, but will be fully on wet food/kibble by tomorrow. Any suggestions on getting him back on track? He had more probiotics yesterday.
Still has hero worship for the dog. He sits and just gazes at her when not launching himself at her face.
So kiddo is turning an interesting color now that his adult coat is coming in. He was jet black before with clearly defined white markings. He’s turning into a roan now. His stripes are still visible, he looks like a sooty or smoky black with white sprinkles. Funky!
I can’t remember, was he sick? Looks like a fever coat.
He had diarrhea at 5-6 days old from the formula not agreeing with him but otherwise no. Never had a fever.
Not necessarily caused by fever. If he had diarrhea, he had something. Or mom did
Ahh, very interesting! Thanks, I’d never seen that before.
Jumping in to share photos of a family member’s fosters. Since it’s back to school week, I gave them their first lesson in Lap Cat.
The palest orange used my hand to hold his wee head. Obviously I was then frozen in that position for as long as required. It was my absolute delight.
These babies and their gorgeous and fastidious lilac Siamese mom are in Central VA if anyone is looking.
@Cammie and @Bicoastal, thank you for the great kitten pictures! I’m here getting my daily Kitten Dose!
I’m more than happy to mail him to you if you’d like to experience the tiny terror in person!
Don’t tempt me. He and my Siamese Terror could keep each other entertained.
The offer stands! I’ll even send a tennis ball with him. Lol.
